Introduction. Family is the first and the natural environment which a child enters by the mere fact of appearing in the world. From that moment family house is responsible for a proper development and education of a child as well as transferring appropriate health behavior patterns.Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the connections and reliances between the quality of a family environment and children's health preferences disclosured in their behavior. It was assumed that there are many factors determining the process of health education in a family, and thus forming health-related behaviors.Material and methods. The study population consisted of a group of 126 children from kindergartens in Bydgoszcz. The empirical material was collected based on the method of diagnostic survey and observation of the health behaviors of children in various situations throughout the day in kindergarten.Results. The analysis indicated a decisive influence of factors such as parents' education, family status, economic and social conditions, participation in physical culture. They determine the quality of care for children, the amount of time spent together, the satisfaction of the biological, social and emotional needs and as a result in developing behaviors fostering or threatening the health. The practical part pinpoints the selected methods and forms of the process of health education in the family, emphasizing the role of physical activity

In preschool education the process of preparing a child for the future role of a tourist is of great importance. The way attitude towards tourism and the knowledge of local history is shaped in kindergarten, will decide upon intensity and value of adult generations’ tourism. The process of initiating tourism-related activity and interest in the surrounding cultural, natural and social reality takes place mainly when children participate in field trips. The article presents excursion’s role in shaping a tourist behaviour in child’s comprehensive development. The analysis of a survey conducted among teachers and parents has been made in order to assess the respondents’opinions on the conditions and the importance of organizing trips in the development of social, cognitive, emotional and health areas of a child’s personality as well as child’s commitment and preparation for tourism

Adult education from a psychological perspective

    Get PDF
In the modern world, civilizational progress has become an important justification for the need of lifelong learning. Transformations of technical, technological, scientific, cultur-al and social nature require constant adjustment, in which the education process plays a tremendous role. One cannot underestimate the fact that the current ability to adjust to ubiquitous transformations, innovations and requirements of the job market will also impact the socioeconomic situation of the future societies. The effectivity of adult learning is influenced by the variety of factors, amongst which psychological variables, including motivation, play a crucial role. This article presents the specificity of adult education, and its practical implications

As an intellectual task, academic writing is not reducible solely to language skills or adequate writing tech-niques. The paper aims to compare the research results related to the cognitive and discursive aspects of expertise in academic writing to determine the key elements that contribute to its special character. These elements are intended to lay the foundation for the teaching of academic writing in tertiary education. The analysis focuses on the development of cognitive skills among novice researchers. As an intellectual task, academic writing is not reducible solely to language skills or adequate writing tech-niques. Riedel's thyroiditis - a case report with genes' expression studies

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Genetic background of Riedel's thyroiditis remains unknown. Herein, we describe our results of studies on genes expression levels in Riedel's thyroiditis.</p> <p>Case report and genetic findings</p> <p>We report the case of 48-year old woman with Riedel's thyroiditis who has presented unusual course of disease with non-specific cervical discomfort, though as with no pain and/or no compression symptoms. After surgery, thyroid specimens were quantitatively evaluated, regarding <it>PIK3CA, PIK3CD, PIK3CG, Tg, TGFB1, THRB, COL1, CDKN1C, CDH3 </it>and <it>CACNA2D2 </it>genes expression levels, by real-time PCR in the ABI PRISMÂź 7500 Sequence Detection System. Out of 10 above genes, in 2 cases the expression was higher than in respective Controls of unchanged thyroid tissue. In the remaining 8 cases, expression in question became comparable or lower as in Controls.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>The association between increased expression levels of <it>PIK3CA </it>and <it>CDH3 </it>genes and Riedel's thyroiditis is not well-defined. However, the increased expression of <it>PIK3CA </it>and <it>CDH3 </it>genes in our case report and in previous studies of other authors on various malignancies may suggest possible molecular relation between Riedel's thyroiditis and certain neoplastic processes, the relation of which requires further genetic evaluation. It is to be stressed that gene expression studies in Riedel's thyroiditis are difficult to perform, mainly due to fibrosis, resulting in scarce thyroid specimens and - in consequence - small amount of genetic material.</p

La reformulation du rĂ©cit : relations texte ‒ discours ‒ langue dans l’optique didactique

The interweaving of textual, discoursal and linguistic narrative data depends on the pedagogical aims and characteristics of the learner, for whom working with a text is an opportunity to develop linguistic communicative competences and learning competence. The aim of the article is to assess the pedagogical value of the experimental procedure focused on the task of reformulation of narrative texts (stories) offered in two pedagogical contexts at beginners’ level. The analysis addresses text characteristics (the narrative scheme) and the language structures used in the performance of the reformulation task, which, in its particular context, has the value of strategic learning/teaching.The interweaving of textual, discoursal and linguistic narrative data depends on the pedagogical aims and characteristics of the learner, for whom working with a text is an opportunity to develop linguistic communicative competences and learning competence. Inflammatory markers and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in a family-based population study

Background: Heart failure affects patients with normal left ventricular systolic function (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction [HFPEF]) and those with reduced ejection fraction (HFREF). The treatment of HFPEF remains an unresolved issue. Aims: We sought to determinate the relationship between inflammatory markers and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) in a family-based population study. Methods: A total of 303 participants from the general population (55% women, median age 49 years and 45% men, median age 40 years) underwent echocardiography and measurement of serum inflammatory markers: C-reactive protein (CRP), myeloperoxidase (MPO), and interleukin 6 (IL-6). Results: Serum IL-6 concentration correlated with peak transmitral late diastolic velocity (A) and pulmonary vein systolic-to-diastolic velocity (S/D) ratio (p &lt; 0.01). Moreover, a significant correlation between IL-6 concentration and E/A ratio and early diastolic peak velocities of the mitral annulus displacement (E’) was observed. The association of IL-6 concentration and peak transmitral early diastolic velocities (E) and the E/E’ ratio (p &lt; 0.05) was noted in men. In addition, the CRP concentration was shown to have an effect on E/A ratio in women (p &lt; 0.05). A significant correlation between the CRP concentration and S/D ratio was observed both in women (p &lt; 0.01) and men (p &lt; 0.05). No significant correlation was found between the level of MPO and LVDD parameters. Additionally, only one predictive model was identified; E’ was found to be dependent on IL-6, age, and heart rate in men (p &lt; 0.001, R2 = 0.611). Conclusions: The above results suggest that inflammation may lead to the onset of LVDD, probably via vascular endothelial dysfunction
