In this report the search for eta-mesic nuclei is reviewed. The brief description of the experimental studies is presented with a focus on the possible production of the eta-nucleus bound states for light nuclei like 4He and 3He.Comment: Conference Proceedings: The 11th Latin American Symposium on Nuclear Physics and Applications (XI LASNPA), 30.11-04.12.2015, Medellin, Columbi

Search for eta-mesic nuclei with WASA-at-COSY

We search for an evidence of eta-mesic He with the WASA detector. Two dedicated experiments were performed at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY-Juelich. The experimental method is based on the measurement of the excitation functions for the two reaction channels: dd->3Heppi- and dd->3Henpi0, where the outgoing N-pi pairs originate from the conversion of the eta meson on a nucleon inside the He nucleus. In this contribution, the experimental method is shortly described and the current status of the analysis is presented.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

We search for an evidence of eta-mesic 4He with the WASA-at-COSY detector. Two dedicated experiments were performed at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY-Juelich. The experimental method is based on the measurement of the excitation functions for the two reaction channels: dd-->3Heppi- and dd-->3Henpi0, where the outgoing N-pi pairs originate from the conversion of the eta meson on a nucleon inside the He nucleus. In this contribution, the experimental method is shortly described and preliminary excitation functions from the 2010 data are presented.Comment: 8 pages, 12 figures, Presented at International Symposium on Mesic Nuclei, Krakow, Sept. 20, 201

Fly Ash Derived Zeolites in the Removal of Toxic Compounds

The present paper describes the previous obtained results concerning purification of gases, water and sewages from toxic components such as mercury, radionuclides and petroleum substances. The tested materials constitute synthetic zeolites obtained in hydrothermal reaction, i.e., Na-X, Na-P1, and natural zeolite clinoptilolite. The zeolites (Na-X, Na-P1 and clinoptilolite) needed for mercury capture were activated by silver ions; however, for the removal of petroleum substances (Na-X and Na-P1) as well as radionuclides (Na-P1) raw zeolite materials were used. The review of the results have shown that zeolites used both for mercury capture and the removal of radionuclides, as well as petroleum substances, can be considered promising sorbent materials

The prognostic value of normal myocardial perfusion spect with positive coronary angiography

BACKGROUND: Normal exercise SPECT studies are associated with a low event rate. The association of the negative SPECT and positive coronary angiography with the results for the long time follow up was determined. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 45 patients were included into the study. All patients had normal SPECT study and positive angiography in the ≤ 6 months after SPECT. 20 of them were women.Six patients had diabetes mellitus, 8 was smokers. Two patients had had left main coronary artery and 12 had multivessel disease. Baseline clinical risk factors were recorded for each patients and compared to outcomes. RESULTS: There were no deaths in the study group in the follow up period. One myocardial infarct occurred in patient with multivessel disease and five more angioplasties with stents were performed in the long term follow up due to progression of coronary stenosis. CONCLUSIONS: We observed that the normal SPECT with positive ECG pattern is infrequent and has a very good prognostic value However, the long-term survival among a patient cohort with a normal exercise SPECT study is influenced by the number of concomitant CAD risk factors. We conclude that there is an importance of modifying CAD risk factors among patients with a normal SPEC

Determinants of using telematics systems in road transport companies

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the scope of using telematics systems based on GPS/GPRS in the road transport as well as to identify determinants of applying telematics tools to increase the quality in the supply chain. Design/Methodology/Approach: The contribution is based on a review of literature, preparing of a questionnaire-based survey directed to road transport companies and estimating logit models. Findings: It is submitted that there is an observable trend of extending telematics in the road transport. The following variables increase the probability of using telematics systems for punctuality checking in supply chains such as the number of employed persons, importance of telematics for getting new orders, managers’ viewpoints that telematics increases the quality of order processing and forecasting punctuality of loadings as well as speeds up decision-making processes. Practical Implications: Application of IT solutions including telematics in road transport is growing continuously. However, the awareness of managers about possible areas of applying them is still unsatisfactory. The paper reveals the determinants of application telematics in supply chain, which can be used to motivate and train managers to extend its scope in practice. Originality/Value: The study is based on primary data from road transport companies and related to the scope of application of telematics systems in operational management. A logit model is applied to evaluate the determinants of using IT systems in the road transport industry. It may be useful for practitioners and analytics of transport industry to broaden applications of IT solutions.peer-reviewe

The analysis of human capital in the context of local economic development

Motivation: The study of local economies has become a significant part of the theoretical and practical approach to economic research. It is important to define variables used for modeling, so the aim of this paper is to identify human capital as the determinant of local economic development. While studies are often conducted on the basis of research material describing a given unit of territorial self-government, the methodology can be applied more broadly. Aim: The aim of the paper is to define the key elements of human capital, which can be used for modeling economic development in the local context. Local development is influenced by a number of factors, such as physical capital, human capital and natural resources, but in this paper we focus both on the analysis of the variables describing human capital both at the moment of examination and of those which will affect its quality in the future. Results: The research findings reveal that human capital in Ustka was subject to significant changes in the period under study and its quality is determined by the economic development of this commune. What is also important is the fact that the variables describing human capital indicate the improvement in the quality of this capital in this territorial unit. Further research into local development should thus take into consideration this significant aspect of economy
