Origin and evolution of the Amazonian craton
The Amazonian craton appears to be formed and modifed by processes much like those of the better-known Precambrian cratons, but the major events did not always follow conventional sequences nor did they occur synchronously with those of other cratons. Much of the craton's Archean style continental crust formation, recorded in granite-greenstone and high-grade terranes, occurred in the Early Proterozoic: a period of relative quiescence in many other Precambrian regions. The common Archean to Proterozoic transition in geological style did not occur here, but an analogous change from abundant marine volcanism to dominantly continental sedimentary and eruptive styles occurred later. Amazonian geology is summarized, explaining the evolution of the craton
CONJOINT ANALYSIS OF THE MID-ATLANTIC FOOD-FISH MARKET FOR FARM-RAISED HYBRID STRIPED BASS
Conjoint analysis was used to examine buyer preferences toward farm-raised hybrid striped bass at the wholesale, retail, and restaurant levels. Low price and round form were found to be important attributes in the product preference rating for the wholesale and retail markets. The filleted form contributed the most to restaurants' preference rating. Following these, larger fish size was preferred by all markets.Agribusiness,
Ecological Observations on Predatory Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) in Southwestern Michigan
Ecological observations on habitat utilization by thirteen species of predatory Coccinellidae were made at a southern Michigan site during 1989 and 1990. Most of species were common during both years and used both agricul- tural and uncultivated habitats. Coccinella septempunctata and Coleomegilla maculata, were the most abundant in agricultural crops (alfalfa, maize, soy- bean and triticale), whereas Adalia bipunctata and Cycloneda munda, were the most abundant in deciduous and bushy habitats
PREFERENCES OF MID-ATLANTIC SEAFOOD BUYERS TOWARD FARM-RAISED HYBRID STRIPED BASS
A market survey of three mid-Atlantic food-fish market levels was conducted to provide information on finfish buyers' market characteristics, finfish attribute preferences, and buyers' attitudes toward farm-raised hybrid striped bass. Results showed that most firms are located in the suburban areas, and they purchased their fish from producers and wholesalers. Quality was rated as the most important finfish attribute; and, aside from restaurants, buyers are generally familiar with hybrid striped bass and indicated that it could easily be substituted for wild striped bass. Most buyers were either not sure or feel hybrid striped bass could not substitute for other fish species although they all expressed a willingness to offer farm-raised hybrid striped bass. Finally, the possibility of fish farmers selling directly to all market levels has great potential if the fish size is around two to three pounds and the form is whole for the wholesaler and retailer and fillet for the restaurants.Consumer/Household Economics,
Liquid Feed Injection in a High Density Riser
First investigations on liquid feed injection in a high density circulating fluidized bed of FCC particles were done by means of fast responding thermocouples, capacitance and conductivity probes. The results imply very limited radial mixing between dry solids, wet solids and liquid for the injection parallel to the hot up-streaming gas-solid flow
Emergence of an incipient ordering mode in FeSe
The structurally simplest Fe-based superconductor FeSe with a critical
temperature 8.5 K displays a breaking of the four-fold
rotational symmetry at a temperature K. We investigated the
electronic properties of FeSe using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy
(STM/S), magnetization, and electrical transport measurements. The results
indicated two new energy scales (i) 75 K denoted by an onset of
electron-hole asymmetry in STS, enhanced spin fluctuations, and increased
positive magnetoresistance; (ii) 22 - 30 K, marked by opening
up of a partial gap of about 8 meV in STS and a recovery of Kohler's rule. Our
results reveal onset of an incipient ordering mode at and its
nucleation below . The ordering mode observed here, both in spin as
well as charge channels, suggests a coupling between the spins with charge,
orbital or pocket degrees of freedom.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
