Cooling system for removing metabolic heat from an hermetically sealed spacesuit

    Get PDF
An improved cooling and ventilating system is described for removing metabolic heat, waste gases and water vapor generated by a wearer of an hermetically sealed spacesuit. The cooling system was characterized by a body suit, having a first circuit for simultaneously establishing a cooling flow of water through the thorax and head sections of the body suit. Circulation patches were included mounted in the thorax section and head section of the body suit. A second circuit for discharing a flow of gas throughout the spacesuit and a disconnect unit for coupling the circuits with a life support system externally related to the spacesuit were provided

Comparing SU(2) to SU(3) gluodynamics on large lattices

We study the SU(2) gluon and ghost propagators in Landau gauge on lattices up to a size of 112^4. A comparison with the SU(3) case is made and finite-volume effects are then investigated. We find that for a large range of momenta the SU(2) and SU(3) propagators are remarkably alike. In the low-momentum region we compare with recent results obtained in DSE studies on a 4-torus.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, poster presented at the XXV International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory, July 30 - August 4 2007, Regensburg, German

Non-universal Casimir Effect in Saturated Superfluid 4^4He Films at Tλ_\lambda

    Get PDF
Measurements of Casimir effects in 4^4He films in the vicinity of the bulk superfluid transition temperature TλT_\lambda have been carried out, where changes in the film thickness and the superfluid density are both monitored as a function of temperature. The Kosterlitz-Thouless superfluid onset temperature in the film is found to occur just as the Casimir dip in the film thickness from critical fluctuations becomes evident. Additionally, a new film-thickening effect is observed precisely at TλT_\lambda when the temperature is swept extremely slowly. We propose that this is a non-universal Casimir effect arising from the viscous suppression of second sound modes in the film.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, corrected an equation, small change to fit valu
