Multiyear measurements of ebullitive methane flux from three subarctic lakes
Ebullition (bubbling) from small lakes and ponds at high latitudes is an important yet unconstrained source of atmospheric methane (CH4). Small water bodies are most abundant in permanently frozen peatlands, and it is speculated that their emissions will increase as the permafrost thaws. We made 6806 measurements of CH4 ebullition during four consecutive summers using a total of 40 bubble traps that were systematically distributed across the depth zones of three lakes in a sporadic permafrost landscape in northernmost Sweden. We identified significant spatial and temporal variations in ebullition and observed a large spread in the bubbles\u27 CH4 concentration, ranging from 0.04% to 98.6%. Ebullition followed lake temperatures, and releases were significantly larger during periods with decreasing atmospheric pressure. Although shallow zone ebullition dominated the seasonal bubble CH4 flux, we found a shift in the depth dependency towards higher fluxes from intermediate and deep zones in early fall. The average daily flux of 13.4âmg CH4 mâ2 was lower than those measured in most other highâlatitude lakes. Locally, however, our study lakes are a substantial CH4 source; we estimate that 350âkg of CH4 is released via ebullition during summer (JuneâSeptember), which is approximately 40% of total whole year emissions from the nearby peatland. Teleological Stance: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background:
Teleological stance is also known as infantsâ ânaĂŻve theory of rational actionâ (Csibra et al., 1999). It has been studied in a violation-of-expectation paradigm assessing difference in infantsâ looking time to events consistent and inconsistent with the expectation that agents act efficiently. The aim of this thesis is to estimate the size of this effect in experimental and control conditions of the paradigm through meta-analysis, and to interpret the findings in the light of the systematic review.
Methods:
Search was carried out at Google Scholar database in May 2021. Studies included habituation or familiarization phase of efficient or inefficient agent, followed by a test phase measuring looking time at efficient vs. inefficient action in new situation.
Findings:
Total of 15 papers involving 3- to 15-month-old infants (n = 1020) was included. The 36 experimental conditions yielded a small effect size (d = 0.43, p = <.001), variance explained by age (z = 2.10, p = .036), but remaining excess variance (Q (25) = 78.6, p = <.001). Null finding was found for the 17 control conditions (d = -0.074, p = .326).
Interpretation:
The meta-analysis confirms infantsâ expectation of efficiency in agents. Infants are also likely to abandon this expectation if agent is previously inefficient. Exploratory analysis supports a presence of a developmental milestone in the last part of the first year of life. Evidence of publication bias challenge a non-linear trend, and inclusion of new or unpublished studies is needed to assess it with greater certainty.

An evaluation of professional networks, co-ordination, cooperation and collaboration in the West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Network
Introduction: This is a report on Strand 3 of the Big Study, which studied the West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Network. The Big Study was funded by The Big Lottery Fund and Strand 3 of the Big Study was researched by the Centre for Nursing and Healthcare Research in the School of Health and Social Care at the University of Greenwich.
1.1 Background: The West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Network began as an interest group which started
in the year 2000, with 6 to 10 members and grew. At one stage it was allied to the Birmingham Cancer Network and funded by the NHS Strategic Health Authority and at this stage it became more representative of services and West Midlands geography. It has existed in its current format, as a voluntary clinical network to promote paediatric palliative care and share best practice since 2009. The membership is wide and inclusive which means 30 to 40 people may attend the meetings which are held on a bimonthly basis and are hosted and supported charitably. Subgroups are now used to manage work in specific areas e.g. transition or clinical standards. There are links
to other related networks with reciprocal membership and informal links to NHS commissioners who may seek advice.
1.2 Scope: This strand of the Big Study focused on the West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Network. The geographical area of the West Midlands Paediatric Palliative Care Network includes Birmingham, Coventry, The Black Country, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Wrekin, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. All members of the WMPCCN and the organisations they represent were included in the study. Both NHS and non-NHS organisations offering clinical services to any children requiring palliative care were represented. Excluded from this study was the detailed examination of any of the other networks, e.g. childrenâs speciality networks or networks covering smaller geographical areas, to which members belonged.
1.3 Report: This report will present the results of an analysis of the responses to an online questionnaire and Social Network data from semi structured telephone interviews. This data was collected during the period February to June 2012. The approach included analysing the online survey data in order to understand the benefits and
constraints of the network for individual members and Social Network Analysis of data derived from telephone interviews to explore the flow of knowledge, communication and information within the network. This report will consist of 3 different sections, with Section 1 focusing on childrenâs palliative care policy, the development of clinical networks and social network analysis concepts. Section 2 will focus on the research design and methods. Section 3 presents the results of the study and the final section provides a summary and conclusions of the analysis

Introducing a Socio-Technical Perspective on Digital Competence Education Through Co-design
Digital competence and programming have been part of the Swedish school curricula since 2018. This paper demonstrates how co-design design activities can be conducted as a way to provide digital competence education from a socio-technical perspective. Such activities were conducted with novice designers in three sessions, each with two school classes, from a Swedish engineering upper secondary school program in 2019. The students gained hands-on experience with interaction design and co-design as they designed a mobile application using a Wizard-of-Oz prototyping system and evaluated the prototype with users. This trial is used to argue that time allocation for socio-technical perspectives on digital competence in the Swedish school curricula can be expanded to be able to provide students with a more holistic view of digitization beyond technical issues
