Accretion-ejection connection in the young brown dwarf candidate ISO-Cha1 217
As the number of observed brown dwarf outflows is growing it is important to
investigate how these outflows compare to the well studied jets from young
stellar objects. A key point of comparison is the relationship between outflow
and accretion activity and in particular the ratio between the mass outflow and
accretion rates (/). The brown dwarf candidate
ISO-ChaI 217 was discovered by our group, as part of a spectro-astrometric
study of brown dwarfs, to be driving an asymmetric outflow with the
blue-shifted lobe having a position angle of 20. The aim here
is to further investigate the properties of ISO-ChaI 217, the morphology and
kinematics of its outflow, and to better constrain
(/). The outflow is spatially resolved in the
lines and is detected out to 1\farcs6
in the blue-shifted lobe and ~ 1" in the red-shifted lobe. The asymmetry
between the two lobes is confirmed although the velocity asymmetry is less
pronounced with respect to our previous study. Using thirteen different
accretion tracers we measure log() [M/yr]= -10.6
0.4. As it was not possible to measure the effect of extinction on the ISO-ChaI
217 outflow was derived for a range of values of A, up to
a value of A = 2.5 mag estimated for the source extinction. The logarithm
of the mass outflow () was estimated in the range -11.7 to -11.1
for both jets combined. Thus / [\Msun/yr] lies
below the maximum value predicted by magneto-centrifugal jet launching models.
Finally, both model fitting of the Balmer decrements and spectro-astrometric
analysis of the H line show that the bulk of the H I emission comes

Sensitivity of predicted bioaerosol exposure from open windrow composting facilities to ADMS dispersion model parameters
Bioaerosols are released in elevated quantities from composting facilities and are associated with negative health effects, although dose-response relationships are not well understood, and require improved exposure classification. Dispersion modelling has great potential to improve exposure classification, but has not yet been extensively used or validated in this context. We present a sensitivity analysis of the ADMS dispersion model specific to input parameter ranges relevant to bioaerosol emissions from open windrow composting. This analysis provides an aid for model calibration by prioritising parameter adjustment and targeting independent parameter estimation. Results showed that predicted exposure was most sensitive to the wet and dry deposition modules and the majority of parameters relating to emission source characteristics, including pollutant emission velocity, source geometry and source height. This research improves understanding of the accuracy of model input data required to provide more reliable exposure predictions
A casino in my pocket: Gratifications associated with obsessive and harmonious passion for mobile gambling
Mobile gambling differs from land-based and traditional forms of gambling in that the opportunity to place bets and engage with casinos is constantly present and easily accessible. Instead of going to a physical bookmaker or casino, mobile gambling is done quickly and swiftly, anytime, anywhere, with a few taps on a mobile device. Previous studies reveal mobile gambling has managed to reach new audiences especially amongst younger people. Gambling harms can have severe adverse effects on individuals, families and society. However, for a subgroup of highly involved individuals, gambling can be considered a harmonious passion that permits frequent gambling without elevating individual’s risks of experience problem gambling manifestations. Combining the Uses and Gratifications (U&G) and Dualistic Model of Passion (DMP) frameworks, the present study aims to determine if and how the different gratifications sought from mobile gambling are susceptible to explaining non-problematic versus problematic patterns in highly involved gamblers. Data were collected over two waves from a global sample of mobile gamblers (N = 327). Results emphasize that the motivational underpinnings of mobile gambling (as measured by the U&G) differ in obsessive versus harmonious passion. Obsessive passion is associated with poor mood and problematic gambling. In contrast, harmonious passion for mobile gambling is associated with positive mood but is unrelated to problematic gambling. Based on these findings, and given that problematic gambling is an internationally relevant public health issue (the prevalence of problem gambling is estimated to range from 0.1% to 5.8% in different countries), we suggest interventions focusing on specific uses and gratifications associated with an obsessive passion for mobile gambling may be effective in reducing problematic usage patterns
Recovery of the X-Ray Transient QX Nor (=X1608-52) in Outburst and Quiescence
We present optical and near-IR observations of QX Nor, the counterpart to the
recurrent soft X-ray transient X1608-52, after its reappearance following the
X-ray outburst in February 1996. The object has been seen only once before,
during an X-ray outburst in 1977. Data from 3-5 months after the outburst show
the counterpart at a mean magnitude of R=20.2 and variable on timescales of
days. A comparison with identical observations in 1995 implies that the object
has brightened by at least 1.8 mag in R following the X-ray outburst. We also
detected QX Nor in the IR in both quiescence and outburst. A faint source is
visible in the J but not the R band in May 1995. These first observations in
the quiescent state yield magnitudes and colors consistent with optical
emission from a low mass companion in the binary system, as is true in other

Models of helically symmetric binary systems
Results from helically symmetric scalar field models and first results from a
convergent helically symmetric binary neutron star code are reported here;
these are models stationary in the rotating frame of a source with constant
angular velocity omega. In the scalar field models and the neutron star code,
helical symmetry leads to a system of mixed elliptic-hyperbolic character. The
scalar field models involve nonlinear terms that mimic nonlinear terms of the
Einstein equation. Convergence is strikingly different for different signs of
each nonlinear term; it is typically insensitive to the iterative method used;
and it improves with an outer boundary in the near zone. In the neutron star
code, one has no control on the sign of the source, and convergence has been
achieved only for an outer boundary less than approximately 1 wavelength from
the source or for a code that imposes helical symmetry only inside a near zone
of that size. The inaccuracy of helically symmetric solutions with appropriate
boundary conditions should be comparable to the inaccuracy of a waveless
formalism that neglects gravitational waves; and the (near zone) solutions we
obtain for waveless and helically symmetric BNS codes with the same boundary

Why do People Share Misinformation during the COVID-19 Pandemic?
The World Health Organization have emphasised that misinformation - spreading
rapidly through social media - poses a serious threat to the COVID-19 response.
Drawing from theories of health perception and cognitive load, we develop and
test a research model hypothesizing why people share unverified COVID-19
information through social media. Our findings suggest a person's trust in
online information and perceived information overload are strong predictors of
unverified information sharing. Furthermore, these factors, along with a
person's perceived COVID-19 severity and vulnerability influence cyberchondria.
Females were significantly more likely to suffer from cyberchondria, however,
males were more likely to share news without fact checking their source. Our
findings suggest that to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 misinformation and
cyberchondria, measures should be taken to enhance a healthy skepticism of
health news while simultaneously guarding against information overload
Quasistationary binary inspiral. I. Einstein equations for the two Killing vector spacetime
The geometry of two infinitely long lines of mass moving in a fixed circular
orbit is considered as a toy model for the inspiral of a binary system of
compact objects due to gravitational radiation. The two Killing fields in the
toy model are used, according to a formalism introduced by Geroch, to describe
the geometry entirely in terms of a set of tensor fields on the two-manifold of
Killing vector orbits. Geroch's derivation of the Einstein equations in this
formalism is streamlined and generalized. The explicit Einstein equations for
the toy model spacetime are derived in terms of the degrees of freedom which

Dietary supplement use and nosebleeds in hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia - an observational study.
Understanding potential provocations of haemorrhage is important in a range of clinical settings, and particularly for people with abnormal vasculature. Patients with hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) can report haemorrhage from nasal telangiectasia in real time, and suggested dietary factors may precipitate nosebleeds. To examine further, nosebleed severity, dietary supplement use, and blood indices were evaluated in an unselected group of 50 HHT patients recruited from a specialist UK service. Using the validated Epistaxis Severity Score, nosebleed severity ranged from 0 to 9.1 out of 10 (median 3.9). Using a Food Frequency Questionnaire, 24/50 (48%) participants reported use of dietary supplements in the previous year. A third (18/50; 36%) had used self prescribed, non-iron containing dietary supplements, ingesting between 1 and 3 different supplements each day. Eight (16%) used fish oils. Despite having more severe epistaxis (p = 0.012), the 12 iron supplement users had higher serum iron concentrations, and were able to maintain their red blood cell indices. In contrast, there was no evident benefit for the participants using non iron supplements. Furthermore, platelet counts and serum fibrinogen tended to be lower in fish oil/supplement users, and one fish oil user demonstrated reduced in vitro platelet aggregation. In conclusion, in this small study, a third of HHT patients used non-iron dietary supplements, and one in six ingested fish oils, unaware of their known anti-platelet activity. The scale of use, and potential of these "natural health supplements" to exacerbate nosebleeds has not been appreciated previously in HHT
