    HIGH DIMENSIONAL VARIABLE SELECTION VIA PENALIZED LIKELIHOOD FOR GENERALIZED LINEAR MODELS

    Variable selection is fundamental to high dimensional statistical modeling. In this study, penalized likelihood methods are examined to simultaneously estimate parameters and select variables for generalized linear models. We focus on the variable selection and parameter estimation properties rather than the prediction properties of the estimators and are more interested in situations where the number of parameters diverges with the sample size. We prove the parameter estimation consistency of several widely used penalized likelihood estimators for generalized linear models. We define the relaxed sense and prove that it loosens the regularity and sparsity conditions of the parameter estimation and variable selection consistency. We propose a bootstrap method that can greatly improve the variable selection performances and reduce false discovery rates. We conduct simulation studies to compare the variable selection and parameter estimation properties of these penalized likelihood estimators for logistic models. We then illustrate our methods on gene expression data

It owns lots of positive consideration in furniture design, such as the human factor’s consideration, the appropriate proportion, ergonomic design and so on. However, as the time gone by, some elements had been outdated, and meaningless for the modern users. If there are no changes on this type furniture, it might be only existing on furniture history books, couldn’t be used by modern people widely. From another side, this furniture has strong Chinese cultural elements and style, which means it would be hard to be accepted by people who don’t familiar with the traditional Chinese culture. Thus, I would redesign it with modern-style design consciousness

    Nitrate is not only an important nutrient but also a signaling molecule for plants. A few of key molecular components involved in primary nitrate responses have been identified mainly by forward and reverse genetics as well as systems biology, however, many underlining mechanisms of nitrate regulation remain unclear. In this study, we show that the expression of NRT1.1, which encodes a nitrate sensor and transporter (also known as CHL1 and NPF6.3), is modulated by NIN-like protein 7 (NLP7). Genetic and molecular analyses indicate that NLP7 works upstream of NRT1.1 in nitrate regulation when NH4+ is present, while in absence of NH4+, it functions in nitrate signaling independently of NRT1.1. Ectopic expression of NRT1.1 in nlp7 resulted in partial or complete restoration of nitrate signaling (expression from nitrate-regulated promoter NRP), nitrate content and nitrate reductase activity in the transgenic lines. Transcriptome analysis revealed that four nitrogen-related clusters including amino acid synthesis-related genes and members of NRT1/PTR family were modulated by both NLP7 and NRT1.1. In addition, ChIP and EMSA assays results indicated that NLP7 may bind to specific regions of the NRT1.1 promoter. Thus, NLP7 acts as an important factor in nitrate signaling via regulating NRT1.1 under NH4+ conditions

    Realization of Heisenberg models of spin systems with polar molecules in pendular states

    We show that ultracold polar diatomic or linear molecules, oriented in an external electric field and mutually coupled by dipole-dipole interactions, can be used to realize the exact Heisenberg XYZ, XXZ and XY models without invoking any approximation. The two lowest lying excited pendular states coupled by microwave or radio-frequency fields are used to encode the pseudo-spin. We map out the general features of the models by evaluating the models' constants as functions of the molecular dipole moment, rotational constant, strength and direction of the external field as well as the distance between molecules. We calculate the phase diagram for a linear chain of polar molecules based on the Heisenberg models and discuss their drawbacks, advantages, and potential applications.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figure

    Repairing Process Models with Non-Free-Choice Constructs Based on Token Replay

    A method of repairing process models with non-free-choice constructs is proposed based on logical Petri nets, aiming at the problem of low precision in the existing repair methods. An extended successor matrix of transitions is determined according to the distance between any two transitions. There are two types of choice-construct transitions. One is a non-free-choice construct transition, and the other is a general choice construct transition. The type of choice-construct transitions can be determined based on the extended successor matrix and the relationship between the front and back sets of transitions. The location of the deviations is calculated by an improved replaying method. Finally, a model can be repaired according to remaining-token places and missing-token places. Based on the experiments on real event logs, the method proposed in this paper has a better performance in fitness, precision, and simplicity compared with its peers

    Yi-Zhi-Fang-Dai Formula Protects against A β

    Yi-Zhi-Fang-Dai formula (YZFDF) is an experiential prescription used to cure dementia cases like Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In this study, the main effective compounds of YZFDF have been identified from this formula, and the neuroprotective effect against Aβ1–42 oligomer of YZFDF has been tested in SH-SY5Y cells. Our results showed that YZFDF could increase cell viability and could attenuate endothelial reticula- (ER-) mediated apoptosis. Evidence indicated that protein folding and endothelial reticula stress (ERS) played an important role in the AD pathological mechanism. We further explored the expression of Hsp70, an important molecular chaperon facilitating the folding of other proteins, and Grp78, the marker protein of ERS in SH-SY5Y cells. Data told us that YZFDF pretreatment could influence the mRNA and protein expression of these two proteins. At last, we also found that YZFDF pretreatment could activate Akt in SH-SY5Y cells. All these above indicate that YZFDF could be a potent therapeutic candidate for AD treatment

    Experimental study on the isothermal adsorption of methane gas in natural gas hydrate argillaceous silt reservoir

    Gas hydrate occurs in hydrate reservoirs in a solid form. At present, the conventional exploitation method is to decompose solid hydrate and then extract the resulting gaseous gas. Therefore, the occurrence law of gas in a reservoir is of great significance for the study of gas hydrate seepage and productivity. Adsorption, as an important occurrence mode, has been widely concerned in the research on shale reservoirs. However, the adsorption problem in hydrate reservoirs has not received enough attention. In this paper, the existence of adsorption in a hydrate reservoir has been experimentally confirmed for the first time. Based on the argillaceous silt of a natural gas hydrate reservoir in the South China Sea, the pore structure and adsorption characteristics of argillaceous silt were experimentally studied, and the results were compared with those of typical shale reservoirs. The modified Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushevich equations were used to fit the adsorption data, and the suitable adsorption model of argillaceous silt was established and optimized. The results showed that the inhomogeneous slit pores are dominant in argillaceous silt, and they are formed by the accumulation of lamellar particles. Compared with shale, the adsorption capacity of argillaceous silt is weak under the same conditions. However, adsorption is a spontaneous exothermic reaction, and the ambient temperature of argillaceous silt is much lower than that of shale. Therefore, it is possible for argillaceous silt to achieve an adsorption capacity comparable to that of shale. The modified Langmuir model can be used to simulate argillaceous silt adsorption at low pressure, while under medium and high pressures, the modified Dubinin-Radushevich model performs better. The adsorption capacity of argillaceous silt is affected by moisture. When the water content is 20%, the Langmuir adsorption capacity and the Dubinin-Radushevich maximum adsorption capacity decreases by 21.88% and 13.67%, respectively, which is far less than the influence of moisture on shale adsorption, as reported in the literature.Cited as: Qi, R., Qin, X., Lu, C., Ma, C., Mao, W., Zhang, W.     Efficiency Enhancement in Polymer Solar Cells With a Polar Small Molecule Both at Interface and in the Bulk Heterojunction Layer

    The polar molecules, including ferroelectric materials with large dipole moments, have been applied as interfacial layers to increase the efficiency of organic solar cells by increasing the bounded charge separation, tuning the energy levels, etc. Here, we report a small polar molecule 2-cyano-3- (4-(diphenylamino) phenyl)acrylic acid (TPACA) that can be either blended in the active layer or at the polymer/electrode interface to increase the efficiency of organic solar cell devices after poling. It is found that the built-in potential of the device is increased by 0.2 V after poling under negative bias. Blending TPACA into the active layer has shown to be a universal method to increase the efficiency of polymer solar cells. The efficiency is increased by 30–90% for all the polymer:fullerene systems tested, with the highest efficiency reaching 7.83% for the poly[4,8-bis-(2-ethyl-hexyl-thiophene-5-yl)-benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b’]dithiophene-2,6-diyl]-alt-[2-(2’-ethyl-hexanoyl)-thieno[3,4-b]thiophen-4,6-diyl]: [6,6]-phenyl-C71 -butyric acid methyl ester (PBDTTT-CT:PC70BM) system
