How Are Urban Green Spaces and Residential Development Related? A Synopsis of Multi-Perspective Analyses for Leipzig, Germany

The relationship between urban green spaces (UGS) and residential development is complex: UGS have positive and negative immediate impacts on residents’ well-being, residential location choice, housing, and land markets. Property owners and real estate agents might consider how prospective clients perceive UGS and act accordingly, while urban planners influence UGS location and management as well as aim at steering the built environment. Typically, studies focus on one of these perspectives at a time. Here, we provide a synopsis of results from studies, taking different perspectives for a single case study: Leipzig, Germany. We summarise and discuss the findings of eight studies on UGS and residential development. In detail, these studies focus on spatial pattern analysis, hedonic pricing analysis, mixed-methods studies on experts’ perspectives, surveys, and choice experiments exploring residents’ perceptions of UGS. We reflect on the feasibility of deriving a synthesis out of these independent studies and to what extent context matters. We conclude that both triangulating of data and methods, as well as long-term and context-sensitive studies are needed to explain the interlinkages between UGS and residential development and their context dependency.Peer Reviewe

Regionale Wertschöpfungsketten für ökologische Tier- und Fleischprodukte (REGINA): Abschlussbericht zur Machbarkeitsstudie

Die Broschüre beinhaltet eine Machbarkeitsstudie für eine digitale Plattform zur gemeinsamen regionalen Vermarktung im Ökolandbau. Eine solche Plattform ermöglicht eine bessere Direktvermarktung ökologisch erzeugter Produkte. Die Broschüre enthält eine ausführliche Anleitung, wie eine solche Vermarktungsplattform entwickelt und betrieben werden kann. Die Machbarkeitsstudie richtet sich an Landwirte, Verarbeiter und Vermarkter von Lebensmitteln sowie an Entwickler digitaler Plattformen. Redaktionsschluss: 31.05.202

Vulnerabilidad frente al cambio climático en la Región Metropolitana de Santiago de Chile: posiciones teóricas versus evidencias empíricas

Para la Región Metropolitana de Santiago de Chile (RMS), el cambio climático implica diferentes impactos que se suman a la continua expansión urbana y a cambios en los patrones de uso del suelo, los cuales a su vez acrecientan las amenazas hidroclimáticas, como las inundaciones y el calor extremo. En general, estos cambios tendrán notables consecuencias para la vulnerabilidad residencial. Especialmente las familias de bajos recursos y los asentamientos ilegales en grandes ciudades con crecimiento acelerado suelen ser los más vulnerables, debido a una mayor exposición y a una limitada capacidad de respuesta. Este artículo contrasta posiciones teóricas sobre las dimensiones socioeconómicas, físico-constructivas y urbano-rurales de la vulnerabilidad con evidencias empíricas, para entender quiénes son los más afectados por las inundaciones y el calor extremo en la Rms. Como muestran los resultados del estudio, las posiciones teóricas no se reflejan en los análisis cuantitativos. La vulnerabilidad depende de cada contexto y requiere políticas adecuadas para distintos territorios

Dinámicas recientes y relaciones entre las estructuras urbanas y socioeconómicas en Santiago de Chile: el caso de Peñalolén

Santiago de Chile is characterized by intensive land use changes that are caused, among others, by a rapid expansion of residential areas. This results in new sociospatial differentiation patterns that in some parts of the city cause a physical proximity between social groups with different levels of educational attainment. This paper analyses the relationship between the new spatial and social patterns for one specific study area in the municipality of Peñalolén, combining census data with the results of remote sensing analysis. Different types of urban structure for the specifi c case of study are proposed and elaborated, based on an objectoriented classification using very high-resolution satellite images. The result of the urban structure analysis shows a signifi cant relationship with the socio-economic data from census, therefore, permits to conclude about social processes inside the city between census periods.Santiago de Chile está caracterizado por intensos cambios en el uso de suelo como resultado de la expansión acelerada de áreas residenciales entre otros. Consecuentemente, aparecen nuevas estructuras socioespaciales que llevan a una situación de proximidad física entre grupos sociales de diferentes niveles educacionales en algunos sectores de la ciudad. El presente estudio analiza las relaciones entre las nuevas estructuras espaciales y sociales en la comuna de Peñalolén, combinando datos censales con resultados de análisis de imágenes satelitales. Se proponen y elaboran diferentes tipos de estructuras urbanas para el caso de estudio, basándose en una clasifi cación orientada a objetos, utilizando imágenes satelitales de muy alta resolución espacial. Los resultados del análisis de las estructuras urbanas muestran una relación signifi cativa con los datos socioeconómicos y, por lo mismo, permite concluir sobre procesos sociales dentro de la ciudad entre los periodos censales

El cambio climático global es inevitable y tiene efectos a diferentes escalas espaciales, incluyendo la urbana.
