Simultaneous nonparametric inference of time series
We consider kernel estimation of marginal densities and regression functions
of stationary processes. It is shown that for a wide class of time series, with
proper centering and scaling, the maximum deviations of kernel density and
regression estimates are asymptotically Gumbel. Our results substantially
generalize earlier ones which were obtained under independence or beta mixing
assumptions. The asymptotic results can be applied to assess patterns of
marginal densities or regression functions via the construction of simultaneous
confidence bands for which one can perform goodness-of-fit tests. As an
application, we construct simultaneous confidence bands for drift and
volatility functions in a dynamic short-term rate model for the U.S. Treasury
yield curve rates data.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/09-AOS789 the Annals of

An Intelligent QoS Identification for Untrustworthy Web Services Via Two-phase Neural Networks
QoS identification for untrustworthy Web services is critical in QoS
management in the service computing since the performance of untrustworthy Web
services may result in QoS downgrade. The key issue is to intelligently learn
the characteristics of trustworthy Web services from different QoS levels, then
to identify the untrustworthy ones according to the characteristics of QoS
metrics. As one of the intelligent identification approaches, deep neural
network has emerged as a powerful technique in recent years. In this paper, we
propose a novel two-phase neural network model to identify the untrustworthy
Web services. In the first phase, Web services are collected from the published
QoS dataset. Then, we design a feedforward neural network model to build the
classifier for Web services with different QoS levels. In the second phase, we
employ a probabilistic neural network (PNN) model to identify the untrustworthy
Web services from each classification. The experimental results show the
proposed approach has 90.5% identification ratio far higher than other
competing approaches.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
A multi-sensor based online tool condition monitoring system for milling process
Tool condition monitoring has been considered as one of the key enabling technologies for manufacturing optimization. Due to the high cost and limited system openness, the relevant developed systems have not been widely adopted by industries, especially Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. In this research, a cost-effective, wireless communication enabled, multi-sensor based tool condition monitoring system has been developed. Various sensor data, such as vibration, cutting force and power data, as well as actual machining parameters, have been collected to support efficient tool condition monitoring and life estimation. The effectiveness of the developed system has been validated via machining cases. The system can be extended to wide manufacturing applications
Can Transfer Payment Reduce the Inequality of Compulsory Education in Poor Areas? An Empirical Study Based on the Data from 18 Counties in 6 Provinces in China
Transfer payment is of great significance for poverty alleviation and balanced regional development. Based on the first-hand survey data from 18 key counties of 6 provinces in China’s national poverty alleviation and development program, this paper uses propensity score matching to calculate the effects of transfer payment funds on the results of compulsory education in impoverished areas and uses Shapley value decomposition to decompose correlated factors. It finds that when the characteristics of students, families and schools controlled, transfer payment funds significantly lower student academic achievements in some subjects and aggravate the inequality of educational results, which may be the result of the reduction of local education funds caused by the “crowding out effect” of transfer payment. Suggestions are made in this paper to standardize the utilization of transfer payment funds, establish a linkage mechanism between the educational results of poor students and transfer payment funds, implement the assisting plan for teachers and students in poor areas, strengthen the “pertinent support for intelligence development”, and unite multiple agencies to increase input in education, with the purpose of reducing the inequality of compulsory education in poor areas
Can Non-Subject-Based Off-Campus Training Improve Student Mental Health in the Context of the Implementation of the Double Reduction Policy? A Study Based on a Survey in 30 Counties in Six Eastern, Central, and Western Provinces of China
Mental Health of primary and secondary school students has drawn wide public attention against the backdrop of the implementation of the Double Reduction policy. This article aims to analyze the effects of non-subject-based off-campus training on student mental health based on an investigation among primary and secondary school students from 30 counties (cities, districts) in six eastern, central, and western provinces of China
The protection project of Hanyuan Hall and Linde Hall of the Daming Palace
AbstractThis paper expounds the consideration to the design of protection and exhibition of Hanyuan Hall and Linde Hall of the Daming Palace. Based on in-depth study on their existing conditions after archeological excavation, and in combination with comprehensive considerations in terms of the protection of the main body of sites, the restoration research of existing bases and superstructures, the requirement of site open exhibition, etc., it proposes the design to restore the rammed earth bases by surrounding them with bricks and stones or rammed earth. Besides the protection and exhibition of the site of Hanyuan Hall bases, it also integrates the features of landform there to design the protection and exhibition of brick and tile kiln of Tang Dynasty within the relic area. Under the condition at that time, a semi-underground small exhibition center is designed by taking advantage of the height difference of base side slopes, satisfying the requirement of exhibition, and meanwhile preserving the overall landscape of the site. The integration of the design of protection project with archeology as well as the science and technology of heritage preservation is a brand-new probe into site protection design
