Bioresorbable drug-eluting magnesium-alloy scaffold for treatment of coronary artery disease
The introduction of metallic drug-eluting stents has reduced the risk of restenosis and widened the indications of percutaneous coronary intervention in treatment of coronary artery disease. However, this medical device can induce hypersensitive reaction that interferes with the endothelialization and healing process resulting in late persistent or acquired malapposition of the permanent metallic implant. Delayed endotheliaization and malapposition may lead to late and very late stent thrombosis. Bioresorbable scaffolds (BRS) have been introduced to potentially overcome these limitations, as they provide temporary scaffolding and then disappear, liberating the treated vessel from its cage. Magnesium is an essential mineral needed for a variety of physiological functions in the human body and its bioresorbable alloy has the strength-to-weight ratio comparable with that of strong aluminum alloys and alloy steels. The aim of this review is to present the new developments in Magnesium BRS technology, to describe its clinical application and to discuss the future prospects of this innovative therapy
[Congratulatory Note for Blue Ribbon Schools Award]
Note of congratulations to Mrs. Fischer (Strickland Middle School principal). Front of card displays DATCU logo. Text in the card reads, "Mr.s Fischer, DATCU salutes you, your staff, the students and their parents for the Blue Ribbon award for excellence that you recently earned. I know how very proud all of you must be--and rightly so. This took lots of hard work and dedication on everyone's part and that will make the award even sweeter. Congratulations! Now some might say that I was bias because my son, Bret, teaches at Strickland -- and maybe that is true. You have a great school! Sincerely, Judy Warnack

Limitation of palatal movement of the maxillary incisors at adolescents with Class II malocclusion
Knochenangebot konnte kein statistisch signifikanter Zusammenhang nachgewiesen
Knowledge of the amount of palatal bone in anterior portion of the palate is
very important for palatal movement of the maxillary incisors. This study is
based on scanned sagittal cuts of dental casts. The cuts were performed
through the region of maxillary central incisors. Afterwards the contour of a
natural incisor with average dimensions was integrated into the scans. The
amount of palatal bone was fully described and measured by an angle between
lines of best fit (polynomials of first degree) at the slope of the palate and
on the root of incisor and by a distance in the region of alveolar crest. The
palatal height could be included into the examination of the mutual
interrelation between measured values also. This region was quantitatively
described by various distances between the root of incisor and the slope of
the palate additionally. Subjects consisted of 35 adolescents with Class II
malocclusion. The angle describing the amount of palatal bone between the
slope of the palate and the root of incisor is 10° to 40°. The related
distance in the region of the alveolar crest is 1,7 mm to 4,2 mm. A highly
significant correlation was proven between the maxillary incisor inclination
and the amount of palatal bone. No significant correlation could be proven
between the slope of the palate and the amount of palatal bone. A considerable
significance could be proven between the maxillary incisor inclination and the
slope of the palate. Generally a more opulent amount of palatal bone is found
for steep incisors as for gently inclined incisors on average in spite of the
tendency to higher slope of the palate for steep incisors. The relatively
large scatter of the results indicates that an individual estimation of amount
of palatal bone is recommendable for treatment planning. The sagittal curve of
the hard palate is increasing with 36° to 56° with respect to occlusal plane.
The maxillary incisors inclination is 48° to 83°. The palatal height was 9,3
mm to 17,5 mm in molar region and 8,0 mm to 15,7 mm in premolar region. Both
behave similar with respect to their relation to the maxillary incisors
inclination and the slope of the palate. Between the palatal height and the
maxillary incisor inclination no significant correlation could be found.
Contrarily a considerable or a highly significant correlation existed between
palatal height and the slope of the palate. However a broad scatter is to be
considered for the individual case. A highly significant correlation was found
between palatal height in molar region and in premolar region. Shallow to high
palates can occur for patients with Class II malocclusions independent of
maxillary incisors inclination. With increasing palatal height the slope of
palate is increasing on average. The palatal height measured in premolar
region is increasing with palatal height measured in molar region on average
