Resummed Quantum Gravity
We present the current status of the a new approach to quantum general
relativity based on the exact resummation of its perturbative series as that
series was formulated by Feynman. We show that the resummed theory is UV finite

Going viral in PNG - exploring routes and circumstances of entry of a rabies-infected dog into Papua New Guinea
In this qualitative study implemented in November 2016, we elicited narratives about fictional rabies incursions from key employees (n = 16) of the National Agriculture and Quarantine Inspection Authority in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to explore the potential circumstances and routes of entry of a rabies-infected dog, and direct rabies preparedness. Although PNG is rabies free, proximity to rabies-endemic Indonesia poses a risk of introduction and it is expected that an outbreak in PNG would have devastating human health impacts consistent with other countries with similarly low human development indices and abundant free-roaming dogs. Participants used their local and professional knowledge to create plausible narratives in response to contextual, but fictitious, newspaper stories. An ethnographic content analysis was used to extract themes and interpret the narratives. Themes were assessed in the context of their potential influence on rabies preparedness in PNG against the social and political background of PNG and relevant, published literature. Consistent themes included the ubiquity of trade and the complexity of routes between Indonesia and PNG. Dog ownership seemed pragmatic - actors in the narratives readily and rationally involved dogs in transactions in response to trade, exchange or gifting opportunities. Consequently, dogs changed ownership frequently. The findings of this study have important implications for rabies preparedness in PNG; there is potential for wide geographic dissemination of rabies in dogs before outbreak detection. However, common patterns of travel - trade of dogs via Papuan towns and use of traditional trade routes - do provide opportunity for targeted surveillance and response in the event of an incursion

Time-evolution of the Rule 150 cellular automaton activity from a Fibonacci iteration
The total activity of the single-seeded cellular rule 150 automaton does not
follow a one-step iteration like other elementary cellular automata, but can be
solved as a two-step vectorial, or string, iteration, which can be viewed as a
generalization of Fibonacci iteration generating the time series from a
sequence of vectors of increasing length. This allows to compute the total
activity time series more efficiently than by simulating the whole

Weight filtration on the cohomology of complex analytic spaces
We extend Deligne's weight filtration to the integer cohomology of complex
analytic spaces (endowed with an equivalence class of compactifications). In
general, the weight filtration that we obtain is not part of a mixed Hodge
structure. Our purely geometric proof is based on cubical descent for
resolution of singularities and Poincar\'e-Verdier duality. Using similar
techniques, we introduce the singularity filtration on the cohomology of
compactificable analytic spaces. This is a new and natural analytic invariant
which does not depend on the equivalence class of compactifications and is
related to the weight filtration.Comment: examples added + minor correction
Issues and indicators of acceptable change : a study of visitors’ and stakeholders’ concerns about three natural attractions in the Paparoa area, West Coast, South Island, New Zealand
This report presents results from visitor surveys and stakeholder interviews at three natural attractions in the Paparoa National Park. The sites were the Pancake Rocks (Dolomite Point), the Fox River caves, and the Westland Black Petrel colony. Questions in the surveys and interviews were based on the Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) framework to identify potential indicators of change at the site, and were developed from previous studies using this system.
The surveys gathered information on visitors' experience of the Pancake Rocks and Fox River caves, and people's sensitivity to impacts encountered at the sites. This was done using self-administered questionnaires on-site immediately after the visit. Stakeholders were interviewed about their issues and concerns for all three sites, and were asked to provide a list of potential indicators of acceptable change
Including nonlocality in exchange-correlation kernel from time-dependent current density functional theory: Application to the stopping power of electron liquids
We develop a scheme for building the scalar exchange-correlation (xc) kernel
of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) from the tensorial kernel
of time-dependent {\em current} density functional theory (TDCDFT) and the
Kohn-Sham current density response function. Resorting to the local
approximation to the kernel of TDCDFT results in a nonlocal approximation to
the kernel of TDDFT, which is free of the contradictions that plague the
standard local density approximation (LDA) to TDDFT. As an application of this
general scheme, we calculate the dynamical xc contribution to the stopping
power of electron liquids for slow ions to find that our results are in
considerably better agreement with experiment than those obtained using TDDFT
