    Tunable strong plasmon-exciton coupling based on borophene and deep subwavelength perovskite grating

    Two-dimensional materials support deeply confined and tunable plasmonic modes, which have great potential for achieving device miniaturization and flexible manipulation. In this paper, we propose a diffraction-unlimited system composed of borophene layer and perovskite grating to investigate the strong coupling between the borophene guiding plasmon (BGP) and perovskite exciton (PE) mode. The resonant energy of BGP mode could be electrically tuned to match the energy of PE mode, and a remarkable Rabi splitting is attained under zero-detuning condition. The splitting energy could reach 230 meV due to the strong field enhancement provided by BGP mode. Consequently, an active reflective phase modulation with 1.76{\pi} range is achieved by dynamically manipulating the detuning. Furthermore, by increasing the distance between the borophene layer and perovskite grating, a parity-time symmetry breaking could be observed with the vanished energy splitting. Our results deepen the understanding of light-matter interaction at the sub-wavelength scale and provide a guideline for designing active plasmonic devices.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

    Effects of Anthropogenic Emission Control and Meteorology Changes on the Inter-Annual Variations of PM2.5ā€“AOD Relationship in China

    We identified controlling factors of the inter-annual variations of surface PM2.5ā€“aerosol optical depth (AOD) relationship in China from 2006 to 2017 using a nested 3D chemical transport modelā€”GEOS-Chem. We separated the contributions from anthropogenic emission control and meteorological changes by fixing meteorology at the 2009 level and fixing anthropogenic emissions at the 2006 level, respectively. Both observations and model show significant downward trends of PM2.5/AOD ratio (Ī·, p < 0.01) in the North China Plain (NCP), the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) and the Pearl River Delta (PRD) in 2006ā€“2017. The model suggests that the downward trends are mainly attributed to anthropogenic emission control. PM2.5 concentration reduces faster at the surface than aloft due to the closeness of surface PM2.5 to emission sources. The Pearson correlation coefficient of surface PM2.5 and AOD (rPM-AOD) shows strong inter-annual variations (Ā±27%) but no statistically significant trends in the three regions. The inter-annual variations of rPM-AOD are mainly determined by meteorology changes. Except for the well-known effects from relative humidity, planetary boundary layer height and wind speed, we find that temperature, tropopause pressure, surface pressure and atmospheric instability are also important meteorological elements that have a strong correlation with inter-annual variations of rPM-AOD in different seasons. This study suggests that as the PM2.5ā€“AOD relationship weakens with reduction of anthropogenic emissions, validity of future retrieval of surface PM2.5 using satellite AOD should be carefully evaluated

    SPECT Molecular Imaging in Parkinson's Disease

    Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common disorder, and the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is clinical and relies on the presence of characteristic motor symptoms. The accuracy of the clinical diagnosis of PD is still limited. Functional neuroimaging using SPECT technique is helpful in patients with first signs of parkinsonism. The changes detected may reflect the disease process itself and/or compensatory responses to the disease, or they may arise in association with disease- and/or treatment-related complications. This paper addresses the value of SPECT in early differential diagnosis of PD and its potential as a sensitive tool to assess the pathophysiology and progression, as well as the therapeutic efficacy of PD

    Recently Ī¼ opioid receptor (MOR) has been shown to be closely associated with depression. Here we investigated the action of Shuyu, a Chinese herbal prescription, on repeated restraint stress induced depression-like rats, with specific attention to the role of MOR and the related signal cascade. Our results showed that repeated restraint stress caused significant depressive-like behaviors, as evidenced by reduced body weight gain, prolonged duration of immobility in forced swimming test, and decreased number of square-crossings and rearings in open field test. The stress-induced depression-like behaviors were relieved by Shuyu, which was accompanied by decreased expression of MOR in hippocampus. Furthermore, Shuyu upregulated BDNF protein expression, restored the activity of CREB, and stimulated MEK and ERK phosphorylation in hippocampus of stressed rats. More importantly, MOR is involved in the effects of Shuyu on these depression-related signals, as they can be strengthened by MOR antagonist CTAP. Collectively, these data indicated that the antidepressant-like properties of Shuyu are associated with MOR and the corresponding CREB, BDNF, MEK, and ERK signal pathway. Our study supports clinical use of Shuyu as an effective treatment of depression and also suggests that MOR might be a target for treatment of depression and developing novel antidepressants

    A reading model of young EFL learners regarding attention, cognitive-load and auditory-assistance

    Audio-assisted reading (reading-while-listening) was commonly used as a pedagogical method in English (L2) learning. Numerous studies had reported its efficacy in English (L2) reading. Its efficacy in reading comprehension has been inconclusive due to the lack of studies on the relationship among attention, cognitive load and L2 reading comprehension, with the possibility that the synchronous auditory input lessens attention to the visual input. We present a study of 41 Mandarin-speaking 8-year-old children reading English texts in three modes in a between-participants design. Data of cognitive load, comprehension scores and attention were fitted to a formal mathematical model, which confirmed that influences on L2 reading comprehension could be captured by interactions between attention and cognitive load. Based on the findings, three implications regarding how to appropriately apply auditory-assistant tools to L2 reading were generated
