    Non-Hermitian dynamics of slowly-varying Hamiltonians

    We develop a theoretical description of non-Hermitian time evolution that accounts for the break- down of the adiabatic theorem. We obtain closed-form expressions for the time-dependent state amplitudes, involving the complex eigen-energies as well as inter-band Berry connections calculated using basis sets from appropriately-chosen Schur decompositions. Using a two-level system as an example, we show that our theory accurately captures the phenomenon of "sudden transitions", where the system state abruptly jumps from one eigenstate to another.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure

    3D Face Synthesis Driven by Personality Impression

    Synthesizing 3D faces that give certain personality impressions is commonly needed in computer games, animations, and virtual world applications for producing realistic virtual characters. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to synthesize 3D faces based on personality impression for creating virtual characters. Our approach consists of two major steps. In the first step, we train classifiers using deep convolutional neural networks on a dataset of images with personality impression annotations, which are capable of predicting the personality impression of a face. In the second step, given a 3D face and a desired personality impression type as user inputs, our approach optimizes the facial details against the trained classifiers, so as to synthesize a face which gives the desired personality impression. We demonstrate our approach for synthesizing 3D faces giving desired personality impressions on a variety of 3D face models. Perceptual studies show that the perceived personality impressions of the synthesized faces agree with the target personality impressions specified for synthesizing the faces.     Dynamical Computation on Coefficients of Electroweak Chiral Lagrangian from One-doublet and Topcolor-assisted Technicolor Models

    Based on previous studies deriving the chiral Lagrangian for pseudo scalar mesons from the first principle of QCD, we derive the electroweak chiral Lagrangian and build up a formulation for computing its coefficients from one-doublet technicolor model and a schematic topcolor-assisted technicolor model. We find that the coefficients of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian for the topcolor-assisted technicolor model are divided into three parts: direct TC2 interaction part, TC1 and TC2 induced effective Z' particle contribution part, and ordinary quarks contribution part. The first two parts are computed in this paper and we show that the direct TC2 interaction part is the same as that in the one-doublet technicolor model, while effective Z' contributions are at least proportional to the p^2 order parameter \beta_1 in the electroweak chiral Lagrangian and typical features of topcolor-assisted technicolor model are that it only allows positive T and U parameters and the T parameter varies in the range 0\sim 1/(25\alpha), the upper bound of T parameter will decrease as long as Z' mass become large. The S parameter can be either positive or negative depending on whether the Z' mass is large or small. The Z' mass is also bounded above and the upper bound depend on value of T parameter. We obtain the values for all the coefficients of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian up to order of p^4.Comment: 52 pages, 15 figure

    Identification of a novel TSC2 c.3610G > A, p.G1204R mutation contribute to aberrant splicing in a patient with classical tuberous sclerosis complex: a case report

    Background: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by hamartomas in any organ systems. Mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 gene lead to the dysfunction of hamartin or tuberin proteins, which cause tuberous sclerosis complex. Case presentation: We describe the clinical characteristics of patients from a Chinese family with tuberous sclerosis complex and analyze the functional consequences of their causal genetic mutations. A novel heterozygous mutation (c.3610G > A) at the last nucleotide of exon 29 in TSC2 was identified. On the protein level, this variant was presumed to be a missense mutation (p.Gly1204Arg). However, the splicing assay revealed that this mutation also leads to the whole TSC2 exon 29 skipping, besides the wild-type transcript. The mutated transcript results in an in-frame deletion of 71 amino acids (p.Gly1133_Thr1203del) and its ratio with the normal splice product is of about 44:56. Conclusions: The novel c.3610G > A TSC2 mutation was identified in association with tuberous sclerosis complex. And it was proven to code both for a missense-carrying transcript (56%), and for an isoform lacking exon 29 (44%)
