The Radio Corona of AR Lacertae
We present multifrequency VLA and VLBA observations at 8.4 GHz of the RS CVn
system AR Lac, that were performed in autumn 1997 simultaneously with X-ray
observations obtained from Rodono` et al. (1999). Our VLBA data indicate a
resolved source with dimension close to the system separation, while the study
of the flux density curve evidences a small amplitude outside of the eclipse
variability. The derived five-frequencies spectra, combined with the size
information from VLBA data, are compared with gyrosynchrotron emission from a
two component structured source. A comparison with the results of the X-ray
observations allow us to exclude the possibility that thermal gyrosynchrotron
is responsible for the radio emission, but it is compatible with the hypothesis
of co-spatial X-ray and radio emitting sources.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures. Accepted for publication in A&
Phellodendron and Citrus extracts benefit cardiovascular health in osteoarthritis patients: a double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study

Abstract

Background

The objective of this clinical study was to assess the potential benefit of a dietary supplement, NP 06-1, on cardiovascular protective properties in overweight and normal weight adults diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Methods

An 8-week, placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind study was conducted with four groups, comparing the effects of NP 06-1 to placebo in overweight and normal weight subjects diagnosed with primary osteoarthritis of the knee. NP 06-1 (a combination of two botanical extracts; <it>Phellodendron amurense </it>bark and <it>Citrus sinensis </it>peel) or matching placebo was given in a dose of two capsules (370 mg each) twice daily. The outcome measures reported are lipid levels, weight, BMI, blood pressure and fasting glucose. Analyses of variance were used to compare changes of physiological measures over the trial period and between groups.

Results

Eighty (80) subjects were enrolled and 45 subjects completed the study. No serious adverse events were reported. NP 06-1 administration was associated with a general improvement in lipid levels. Both the overweight and normal weight treatment groups had significant reductions in triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol, as well as a significant increase in HDL-cholesterol compared to their respective control groups.

Overall there were decreases in blood pressure in both overweight and normal weight treatment groups compared to respective placebo groups. There was also a significant decrease in fasting glucose levels in the overweight treatment group compared to the start of the study and to the overweight placebo group. There was no change in fasting blood sugar for the normal weight groups.

Both overweight and normal weight treatment groups lost a significant amount of weight compared to their respective placebo groups. The overweight treatment group lost an average of 5% body weight after 8 weeks, which was associated with a significant loss in BMI over time.

Conclusion

In this pilot study NP 06-1 had a beneficial effect on cardiovascular risk factors; namely lipid levels, blood pressure and fasting glucose levels. Administration of NP 06-1 was also associated with weight loss.</p
City of Hitchcock Comprehensive Plan 2020-2040
Hitchcock is a small town located in Galveston
County (Figure 1.1), nestled up on the Texas Gulf
Coast. It lies about 40 miles south-east of Houston.
The boundaries of the city encloses an area of
land of 60.46 sq. miles, an area of water of 31.64
sq. miles at an elevation just 16 feet above sea level.
Hitchcock has more undeveloped land (~90% of
total area) than the county combined. Its strategic
location gives it a driving force of opportunities in
the Houston-Galveston Region. The guiding principles for this planning process were Hitchcock’s vision statement and its corresponding goals, which were crafted by the
task force. The goals focus on factors of growth and development including public participation, development considerations,
transportation, community facilities, economic development, parks, and housing and social vulnerabilityTexas Target Communitie

A Comparison Between Lab-Scale and Hot-Melt-Extruder-Based Anti-inflammatory Ointment Manufacturing
Hot-melt extrusion (HME) has been extensively investigated for continuous manufacturing of amorphous solid dispersions, to improve the solubility of poorly water-soluble drug substances, impart abuse deterrence to controlled substances, taste masking for pediatric and geriatric formulations and development of cocrystal system. Much research has been conducted on the continuous manufacturing of solid dosage forms using HME, but its applicability in the manufacturing of semisolids remains an unexplored domain. This study aimed to explore the applicability of HME in the continuous manufacturing of topical semi-solid formulations with two active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Ointments containing a combination of triamcinolone acetonide and lidocaine hydrochloride were screened based on a quality target product profile (QTPP) and established critical quality attributes (CQAs) using design of experiments (DoE). Three selected formulations, manufactured by a lab-scale fusion method and HME, were subjected to further characterization studies including work of adhesion, stiffness, apparent pH, content uniformity, differential scanning calorimetry, accelerated stability, and in vitro drug release testing. Selected formulations met design characteristics and demonstrated the applicability of HME in the continuous manufacturing of semi-solid formulations. Graphical abstrac
