How to measure the parity of the in collisions
Triggered by a recent paper by Thomas, Hicks and Hosaka, we investigate which
observables can be used to determine the parity of the from the
reaction near its production threshold. In
particular, we show that the sign of the spin correlation coefficient
for small excess energies yields the negative of the parity of the .
The argument relies solely on the Pauli principle and parity conservation and
is therefore model--independent.Comment: References completed, discussion on possible influence of background

The fate of the homoctenids (Tentaculitoidea) during the Frasnian-Famennian mass extinction (Late Devonian)
The homoctenids (Tentaculitoidea) are small, conical-shelled marine animals which are amongst the most abundant and widespread of all Late Devonian fossils. They were a principal casualty of the Frasnian-Famennian (F-F, Late Devonian) mass extinction, and thus provide an insight into the extinction dynamics. Despite their abundance during the Late Devonian, they have been largely neglected by extinction studies. A number of Frasnian-Famennian boundary sections have been studied, in Poland, Germany, France, and the United States. These sections have yielded homoctenids, which allow precise recognition of the timing of the mass extinction. It is clear that the homoctenids almost disappear from the fossil record during the latest Frasnian âUpper Kellwasser Eventâ. The coincident extinction of this pelagic group, and the widespread development of intense marine anoxia within the water column, provides a causal link between anoxia and the F-F extinction. Most notable is the sudden demise of a group, which had been present in rock-forming densities, during this anoxic event. One new species, belonging to Homoctenus is described, but is not formally named here
The Breathing Mode in Extended Skyrme Model
We study an extended Skyrme model which includes fourth and sixth-order
terms. We explore some static properties like the -nucleon mass
splitting and investigate the Skyrmion breathing mode in the framework of the
linear response theory. We find that the monopole response function has a
pronounced peak located at 400 MeV, which we identify to the Roper
resonance . As compared to the standard one, the extended Skyrme model

Classification of Inflationary Einstein--Scalar--Field--Models via Catastrophe Theory
Various scenarios of the initial inflation of the universe are distinguished
by the choice of a scalar field {\em potential} which simulates a
{\it temporarily} non--vanishing {\em cosmological term}. Our new method, which
involves a reparametrization in terms of the Hubble expansion parameter ,
provides a classification of allowed inflationary potentials and of the
stability of the critical points. It is broad enough to embody all known {\it
exact} solutions involving one scalar field as special cases. Inflation
corresponds to the evolution of critical points of some catastrophe manifold.
The coalescence of its nondegenerate critical points with the creation of a
degenerate critical point corresponds the reheating phase of the universe. This

Loosely bound hyperons in the SU(3) Skyrme model
Hyperon pairs bound in deuteron like states are obtained within the SU(3)
Skyrme model in agreement with general expectations from boson exchange models.
The central binding from the flavor symmetry breaking terms increases with the
strangeness contents of the interacting baryons whereas the kinetic non-linear
-model term fixes the spin and isospin of the bound pair. We give a
complete account of the interactions of octet baryons within the product

Multibaryons in the collective coordinate approach to the SU(3) Skyrme model
We obtain the rotational spectrum of strange multibaryon states by performing
the SU(3) collective coordinate quantization of the static multi-Skyrmions.
These background configurations are given in terms of rational maps, which are
very good approximations and share the same symmetries as the exact solutions.
Thus, the allowed quantum numbers in the spectra and the structure of the
collective Hamiltonians we obtain are also valid in the exact case. We find
that the predicted spectra are in overall agreement with those corresponding to
the alternative bound state soliton model.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur
Alpha scattering and capture reactions in the A = 7 system at low energies
Differential cross sections for He- scattering were measured in
the energy range up to 3 MeV. These data together with other available
experimental results for He and H scattering were
analyzed in the framework of the optical model using double-folded potentials.
The optical potentials obtained were used to calculate the astrophysical
S-factors of the capture reactions HeBe and
HLi, and the branching ratios for the transitions into
the two final Be and Li bound states, respectively. For
HeBe excellent agreement between calculated and
experimental data is obtained. For HLi a value
has been found which is a factor of about 1.5 larger than the adopted value.

Measurement of the LT-asymmetry in \pi^0 electroproduction at the energy of the \Delta (1232) resonance
The reaction p(e,e'p)pi^0 has been studied at Q^2=0.2 (GeV/c)^2 in the region
of W=1232 MeV. From measurements left and right of q, cross section asymmetries
\rho_LT have been obtained in forward kinematics \rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=20deg) =
(-11.68 +/- 2.36_stat +/- 2.36_sys)$ and backward kinematics
\rho_LT(\theta_\pi^0=160deg) =(12.18 +/- 0.27_stat +/- 0.82_sys). Multipole
ratios \Re(S_1+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 and \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 were determined
in the framework of the MAID2003 model. The results are in agreement with older
data. The unusally strong negative \Re(S_0+^* M_1+)/|M_1+|^2 required to bring
also the result of Kalleicher et al. in accordance with the rest of the data is

Die demographischen VerĂ€nderungen sind Auslöser einer grundsĂ€tzlicheren Debatte ĂŒber Alterssicherungsverfahren, nĂ€mlich der Wahl eines effizienten Finanzierungsverfahrens der Altersvorsorge. Im Zentrum der Debatte steht immer wieder der Renditevergleich zwischen dem Umlage- und dem Kapitaldeckungsverfahren. Ihm gilt dieses Papier. Er ist keineswegs so einfach, wie es oft suggeriert wird, da Versicherungs- und Risikoaspekte, vor allem aber das Ăbergangsproblem berĂŒcksichtigt werden mĂŒssen. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt den wirtschaftstheoretischen Hintergrund mit den wichtigsten relevanten Konzepten dar und prĂ€sentiert empirische SchĂ€tzungen zur heutigen und Simulationsergebnisse zur zukĂŒnftigen Entwicklung der relevanten Renditen. Multibaryons as Symmetric Multiskyrmions
We study non-adiabatic corrections to multibaryon systems within the bound
state approach to the SU(3) Skyrme model. We use approximate ansatze for the
static background fields based on rational maps which have the same symmetries
of the exact solutions. To determine the explicit form of the collective
Hamiltonians and wave functions we only make use of these symmetries. Thus, the
expressions obtained are also valid in the exact case. On the other hand, the
inertia parameters and hyperfine splitting constants we calculate do depend on
the detailed form of the ansatze and are, therefore, approximate. Using these
values we compute the low lying spectra of multibaryons with B <= 9 and
strangeness 0, -1 and -B. Finally, we show that the non-adiabatic corrections
do not affect the stability of the tetralambda and heptalambda found in a
