Generic Connectivity-Based CGRA Mapping via Integer Linear Programming

Coarse-grained reconfigurable architectures (CGRAs) are programmable logic devices with large coarse-grained ALU-like logic blocks, and multi-bit datapath-style routing. CGRAs often have relatively restricted data routing networks, so they attract CAD mapping tools that use exact methods, such as Integer Linear Programming (ILP). However, tools that target general architectures must use large constraint systems to fully describe an architecture's flexibility, resulting in lengthy run-times. In this paper, we propose to derive connectivity information from an otherwise generic device model, and use this to create simpler ILPs, which we combine in an iterative schedule and retain most of the exactness of a fully-generic ILP approach. This new approach has a speed-up geometric mean of 5.88x when considering benchmarks that do not hit a time-limit of 7.5 hours on the fully-generic ILP, and 37.6x otherwise. This was measured using the set of benchmarks used to originally evaluate the fully-generic approach and several more benchmarks representing computation tasks, over three different CGRA architectures. All run-times of the new approach are less than 20 minutes, with 90th percentile time of 410 seconds. The proposed mapping techniques are integrated into, and evaluated using the open-source CGRA-ME architecture modelling and exploration framework.Comment: 8 pages of content; 8 figures; 3 tables; to appear in FCCM 2019; Uses the CGRA-ME framework at http://cgra-me.ece.utoronto.ca

The relationship between early maladaptive schemas, chronic and acute depression, and help seeking behaviors

Depression is a disorder that affects many people\u27s lives; approximately 24% of Americans are diagnosed with some form of depression in their lifetime. In order to effectively treat depression we must first understand the disorder and how the symptoms affect people. This study aims to investigate unipolar depression in two ways through the use of a questionnaire. One is to understand the etiology of depression, specifically the role of Early Maladaptive Schemas in the etiology of chronic and acute depression. Hierarchical regressions on 88 participants indicated that EMS and anxiety significantly predict acute and chronic depression. The other aim of this study is to understand when depressed clients seek treatment, because treatments are only effective if clients seek out help. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) on 88 participants indicated that there were significant differences on reported EMS between three groups of help seeking; those who sought help, those who wanted help but did not seek it, and those who did not need or want help

    Taxidermy of Thought

Sculpture is how I bring to life the dark corners of my mind. There have always been images of creatures, geology, and botanical life swirling around my head. Images that often include spires of exoskeleton, creeping tendrils searching for sustenance, or something that moves in an unnatural way. After years of envisioning and automatically sketching out these things it is beginning to get a bit crowded in there. It was time to excise this world in my mind and bring it into existence through my hands. Using many different materials, including plaster, wire, paper mache, epoxy, urethane resins, many different kinds paint and stains, I have constructed these objects. Each one is meant to be left to its\u27 observer to decide where it belongs or what it is. I want my things available to inhabit everyone\u27s dark corners, able to fill that creepy void that everyone shies away from. I feel my work has a similar relationship to that of an entomologist. They can find the beauty in an insect, while the rest of the world will recoil in disgust. I have been inspired by many sources. For as long as I can remember I have been interested in monsters. I can remember watching Godzilla and The Creature from the Black Lagoon as a small child and being absolutely mesmerized. From then on the interest has only grown, to include more horror and sci-fi films, books, comics and art. I have spent much of the last twenty-five years building and painting figure models based on said material. The works of many fine artists have been influences as well, including and not limited to Calder, Hunt, Geiger, Giacometti. The natural world is also an influence. If you look hard enough you will see the insects, plants and sea life at the core of every sculpture

    Hide and Seek in Arizona

Laboratory subjects repeatedly played one of two variations of a simple two-person zero-sum game of ``hide and seek.'' Three puzzling departures from the prescriptions of equilibrium theory are found in the data: an asymmetry related to the player's role in the game; an asymmetry across the game variations; and positive serial correlation in subjects' play. Possible explanations for these departures are considered.Minimax, mixed strategy, experiment

evaluation of elliptical, glass fiber reinforced polymer, and stainless steel dowel bars in concrete pavements with consideration to subgrade resilient modulus

Jointed plain concrete pavements use dowel bars to transfer load across transverse joints. The job of the designer is to optimize the number, size, and location of the dowels in a given pavement. This research used data from two different construction locations. The first project evaluated the performance of standard 1.5 inch round and elliptical shaped dowel bars at different spacing intervals using full dowel baskets. The performance potential of standard 1.5 inch round and elliptical dowels placed in the wheel paths only was also evaluated on the same project. The second project compared corrosion resistant dowel bar (stainless steel and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) dowel bars) performance to round 1.5 inch epoxy-coated steel dowel bars. The stainless steel and GFRP bars are for possible use in environments where steel corrosion may be an issue. Performance data was measured on both projects in terms of deflections, using falling weight deflectometer (FWD) data collected biannually. Joint faulting data was collected over the five-year test period for both projects. Roughness data was collected for only the elliptical dowel bar project over the five-year test period. Resilient modulus values were found by triaxial testing of the pavement subgrade samples. Performance criteria graphed verses resilient modulus allowed for the comparison of different dowels as the subgrade resilient modulus changed. The elliptical dowel bar study indicated medium elliptical dowel bars at 12 inch or 15 inch spacing perform equally to the standard 1.5 inch round dowel bars at 12 inch spacing. The elliptical study also indicated the potential use of medium elliptical dowel bars in wheel paths only. The corrosion resistance study indicated stainless steel dowels spaced at eight inch intervals were the only dowels to outperform the 12 inch spaced round 1.5 inch epoxy-coated bars

Eleven Bullets: A Counter Assault on Subjectivity and the Creation of Meaning

Eleven Bullets: A Counter Assault on Subjectivity and the Creation of Visual Meaning explores the sources of visual meaning as a combination of shared personal experience among the mass audience and the perpetuation of this meaning via popular cultural applications. It proposes that the analysis of an artist’s personal experience with sensory perception is the foundation for his or her ability to instill meaning within a design. By understanding how we make associations with experiences that are pleasurable, painful, safe, dangerous, passive, aggressive etc., we organize our world according to visual stereotypes. These stereotypes help us navigate the world efficiently and safely. They also directly influence our instinctual responses to visual stimuli. The artworks in this thesis are designed to use the same inherent meanings within the visual elements to communicate with two polar audiences, liberal & conservative. This is accomplished not by changing the inherent meaning of the element, but by positioning it in different ratios and contexts to appeal to the unique sensibilities of the work’s targeted audience. It argues against the changing or denying the presence of meaning, a practice I believe to be detrimental to all aspects of communication, and instead advocates for teaching competency and responsibility in the manipulation of these elements to communicate. The works utilizes gun control propaganda for the purpose of content only. It is not the goal of this thesis to advocate for any particular stance or policy but rather to demonstrate that a singular visual lexicon can be effective in creating meaning across a variety of audiences, even those fundamentally opposed to one another

This qualitative study, working from an Indigenous perspective, sought to determine the content and pedagogical process of teaching Indigenous social work administration. An Indigenous philosophical and methodological approach framed a participatory action research approach to the topic; Indigenous leaders, managers, and academics in Canada were interviewed, along with a focus group of Indigenous academics to determine what content and pedagogical approach needs to be included when teaching Indigenous social work administration
