    Effect of Groundnut Plant Residues on Germination and Radicle Elongation of Four Crop Species

    Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) )yield has been reported to decrease by more than 50% with successive croppings. Filtrates from fresh and decomposed groundnut plant residues were bioassyed for their effects on germination and radicle elongation of four crop species. Results obtained indicated that the inhibitory substance(s)present in the residues is soluble in water; heat treatment or prolonged decomposition seemed 10 reduces or possible eliminate the inhibitory activity of the residues. The production of the inhibitor(s) also seem to follow a cycle and may also be associated with changes in pH of the residue filtrates.Delaying D planting of the subsequent crop is suggested as a precaution against poor germination and early growth if plant residue Were incorporated or left on Ihe soilsurface after harvest

    Groundnut plant residue at different placements in the soil was tested for phytotoxic and other effects on the growth and development of groundnut and maize plants. Results indicated that the residue released substances during decomposition that inhibited growth and development of groundnut. Residues mixed with the soil or banded in a layer below the seed was the most inhibitory to the growth of groundnut. However, early maize growth was stimulated by the presence of residue on the soil surface or in the soil

    SEM study of the morphology of leaves of four dessert banana cultivars (Musa spp. cv. ‘Intan’, ‘Jari Buaya’, ‘Novaria’ and ‘Raja Udang Merah’) in Malaysia

    The leaf surface morphology of four banana cultivars namely, ‘Intan’, ‘Novaria’, ‘Jari Buaya’ and ‘Raja Udang Merah’ was studied using the SEM. Stomatal density differed among the cultivars and between the two leaf surfaces. The abaxial surface had 2–3 fold more stomata/mm2 than the adaxial surface. ‘Jari Buaya’ had the highest stomatal density. Wax layer between the two leaf surfaces also differed. The abaxial surface showed more conspicuous and well-organized wax layer. The stomatal complex of both surfaces was located in a slight depression among the epidermal cells but with the stomatal aperture situated slightly higher than the position of the guard cells. The results are discussed in terms of plant water relations and the effectiveness of fungicide sprays to control leaf diseases

    Utilization Potential of 30Year-old Oil Palm Trunks Laminated Veneer Lumbers for Non-structural Purposes

    Oil palm trunks found in abundant and considered as an agriculture waste were investigated as a possible alternative to future wood in utilization for non-structural purposes. The trunks are of no economic important in their natural form. However, once converted into the form of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) their properties improved tremendously. This paper highlighted properties of the LVL made from oil palm trunks at four (4) different positions comprising two (2) portions height and two (2) cross-sectional zones. These LVL have shown to behave differently when tested for their physical, mechanical and glue delaminating properties. Testing on all the LVL specimens were done in accordance with the Japanese Agricultural Standard, JAS No. 237: 2003

    An improved artificial dendrite cell algorithm for abnormal signal detection

    In dendrite cell algorithm (DCA), the abnormality of a data point is determined by comparing the multi-context antigen value (MCAV) with anomaly threshold. The limitation of the existing threshold is that the value needs to be determined before mining based on previous information and the existing MCAV is inefficient when exposed to extreme values. This causes the DCA fails to detect new data points if the pattern has distinct behavior from previous information and affects detection accuracy. This paper proposed an improved anomaly threshold solution for DCA using the statistical cumulative sum (CUSUM) with the aim to improve its detection capability. In the proposed approach, the MCAV were normalized with upper CUSUM and the new anomaly threshold was calculated during run time by considering the acceptance value and min MCAV. From the experiments towards 12 benchmark and two outbreak datasets, the improved DCA is proven to have a better detection result than its previous version in terms of sensitivity, specificity, false detection rate and accuracy

    Physical characteristics and weight relationship of Gigantochloa scortechinii (Buluh Semantan) 1-,2- and 3-year old natural stand bamboos

    Physical characteristics, such as average number of internodes, internode length, culm wall thickness, circumference of internodes, and weight of culm, branch and leaf of 1-, 2- and 3-year old culms were determined. Data were gathered from 47 to 62 of 1-, 2- and 3-year old culms in Kedah, Peninsular Malaysia. Significant linear relationships between weight and solid volume of the bamboo were observed for all the various ages studied. In addition, their corresponding regression equations were also determined. The 3-year old culm had the biggest mean for all the characteristic features, except for the Diameter-breast height (Dbh) and the culm wall thickness at the base. This was followed by the 2-year old culm. Meanwhile, regression of the height and culm weight on the Dbh gave the best regression line for 1 year old culm in terms of its r-squared value of 84 and 86 percent in comparison to the 2 and 3-year old culm

Penelitian ini dilakukan di Dinas Perhubungan Komunikasi dan Informatika (KOMINFO) Kabupaten Soppeng.Data dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif dan kuantitatif yaitu dengan analisis regresi linear berganda yang digunakan untuk mengukur pengaruh Motivasi, Komunikasi, dan Lingkungan kerja, Kinerja Pegawai Dinas Perhubungan Komunikasi dan Informatika (KOMINFO) Kabupaten Soppeng.
