    Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk meninjau peranan ibu bapa murid Orang Asli dalam menentukan matlamat pendidikan anak-anak lalu meningkatkan pencapaian akademik. Dalam kajian kes ini, data diperolehi daripada dua orang ibu dan dua orang bapa murid Orang Asli sebagai peserta kajian. Instrumen yang digunakan ialah protokol temu bual dan senarai semak pemerhatian sebagai alat mengumpul data. Temu bual secara mendalam dan pemerhatian dilakukan untuk mendapatkan data kritikal daripada ibu bapa. Data temubual telah dianalisis dan dikategori mengikut tema-tema yang muncul. Triangulasi telah dijalankan terhadap data temubual dan pemerhatian untuk menentukan kesahan dan kebolehpercayaan dapatan kajian. Dapatan utama kajian menunjukkan bahawa ibu bapa Orang Asli mempunyai aspirasi dan matlamat untuk anak-anak mereka. Mereka juga mengatakan bahawa mereka terlibat dalam aktiviti-aktiviti pendidikan di sekolah serta telah mengambil tindakan bagi memastikan anakanak berjaya dalam pendidikan. Ini menunjukkan ibu bapa yang mempunyai matlamat pendidikan yang jelas untuk anak-anak adalah penting bagi meningkatkan pencapaian akademik serta mengurangkan kadar ketidakhadiran anakanak ke sekolah dan seterusnya dapat mengurangkan keciciran

    Vocational Education and Skills Training for Indigenous Community in Malaysia

    This paper discusses the participation of Indigenous community in the field of Technical and Vocational education (TVE) and in the specialized programs in Skills Training Institutions (STI) in Malaysia. Marginalization of Indigenous youth in terms of education and employment in Malaysia is critical and needs to be addressed.  High unemployment among the Orang Asli youth may be attributed to their lack of proper skills required by the employers.  Thus, vocational training is needed to ensure the competitiveness of these people in the era of globalization to live a more comfortable life and have a better socio-economic status (SES). This paper also deliberates on the developmental history of TVE, the aims and the objectives of its implementation in the education system. Apart from these, the training and skills programs for the Indigenous youth who are drop-outs and have completed schooling were also discussed. This paper also presents the conclusion and recommendations to improve the participation of Indigenous community in the TVE and STI. If the recommendations are taken positively by the relevant authorities in-charge of the Indigenous people, the future of Indigenous youth will be brighter because it will improve their employment prospects and enhance their social mobility and status.     Teacher-level and context-level barriers to using English as a medium of instruction: A systematic review

    A systematic review of literature regarding the factors that hinders or challenges preschool teachers’ use of the English language in formal preschool classrooms was undertaken initially in order to summarize the findings of research between 1991 and 2016. Research suggested that various important teacher and context level barriers were barriers. Large number of literature reported preschools teachers’ lack of confidence in using the language as theprevalent barrier, followed by lower than expected proficiency level. The literature alluded to an association between these two teacher barriers. Other teacher context included inability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners whenEnglish was solely used, deficient attitudes and beliefs about the importance of the language thus creating an inherent resistance to use the language in the classroom, and stress related workplace due to overzealous administrators. Context level barriersincluded time constraints, classroom environment (example, lack of access to resources, large classroom sizes, and lack of parental encouragement towards the use of English), and lack of administrativesupport

    Development and Validation of an Inventory to Evaluate Teaching Strategies for Promoting Higher-Order Thinking Skills in the Teaching of Islamic Education

    The purpose of this study is to develop and assess the validity and reliability of an inventory on teaching strategies involved in promoting HOTs as well as to identify the most and the least popular teaching strategies used. The inventory is adapted from Gulistan et al. (2016). It is in the form of questionnaire distributed to a sample of 220 primary school teachers teaching Islamic education subject. The content validity is assessed by the experts and the construct validity is measured by Exploratory Factor Analysis. The reliability of the instrument is measured using internal consistence reliability, which is alpha coefficient reliability or Cronbach Alpha. Results of exploratory factor analysis suggested that 5 items need to be removed due to their non-dimensionality as they have more or less equal loadings on several factors. The instrument developed yielded high values of internal consistency as reflected by the Cronbach alpha values. Thus, the final draft of the instrument contains 26 items which are valid and reliable.  Even though the validity and reliability of the instrument are within the acceptable range, more data need to be gathered using a bigger sample size, and further analysis using confirmatory factor analysis could be used to explore deeper into the psychometric characteristics of the items before the instrument can be finalized. Furthermore, the findings of the study indicated that the most popular strategy used among teachers teaching Islamic education was the strategy for acquiring knowledge which introduces students more on memorizing basic concepts, while the least used strategy was the higher cognitive skills teaching strategies such as problem solving, collaborative learning and inquiry strategies

    Special Education Classrooms: Can Technology Use Inspired?

    Purpose: This study aim to explore the inspiration of technology in conducting learning process for special education studens in classroom.   Framework: It is common knowledge that education today requires teachers to be more creative in delivering learning and teaching in the classroom.   Methodology: This study use qualitative approach in gathering the data. 12 teachers were interview in this studies.   Findings: The result shows the rapidity of technology is now to some extent helping teachers find fresher ideas to conduct teaching in the classroom. The existence of various types of technology including gadgets, software, video applications and others are seen to be able to attract the interest of students in turn can achieve teaching objectives. However, some studies show that some teachers are less effective in the use of technology when teaching in the classroom.   Implications: In addition to speeding up the process of obtaining information, the use of technology also actually helps understanding and attracts students to learning. It is hoped that the findings of this study can help future researchers to conduct further research.   Value: This to some extent shows a loss to student learning. The use of technology should be utilized and used properly because space and opportunities for access to technology are now readily available

    Self-Reflection and Transformation Among Ningxia International Students in Malaysia

    The study investigated the learning experiences and the adaptation process among Ningxia China international students studying in Malaysia. The paper aims to highlight the researcher’s self-reflection on the learning experience which led to self-transformation. The study employed a qualitative paradigm where a total of the ten participants were interviewed. Through a unique self-reflection during analysis, the researcher placed herself in the study and supported by ten other respondents. The researcher went through a rigorous search within herself. In addition, a set of semi-structured questions was used during the interview. The self-reflection of the researcher was conceptualized, interviews were transcribed and data were triangulated. Coding and constant comparison were adopted during data analysis. The findings showed the sub-themes of the learning experiences which led to self -transformation. The results yielded from this study contributed significantly towards the notion of transformation, study abroad and internationalisation. Thus, this implies that to able to succeed while studying abroad, it is important to understand the learning processes and the outcomes of the transformation within an individual
