Scalar Field Theory at Finite Temperature in D=2+1

    Get PDF
We discuss the ϕ6\phi^6 theory defined in D=2+1D=2+1-dimensional space-time and assume that the system is in equilibrium with a thermal bath at temperature ÎČ−1\beta^{-1}. We use the 1/N 1/N expansion and the method of the composite operator (CJT) for summing a large set of Feynman graphs. We demonstrate explicitly the Coleman-Mermin-Wagner theorem at finite temperature.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figure. A new species for the fauna of Serbia - Dimorphocoris beieri Wagner, 1965, was caught on the Veliki Streơer, the highest peak of the Mount Vardenik. The species is endemic to the Balkan Peninsula, and in addition to Serbia, it has also been recorded in Montenegro on the Mount Durmitor (Wagner 1965, 1973; Protić et al. 1990). In addition to this, another species of the same genus was recorded in Serbia - D. saulii Wagner, on the Mount Stolovi (Protić, 2016)

Postcard with green postage in top right corner, “Postkarte” written in green print, image of building and landscape in green ink on left side. Information Provided by Michael D. Bulmash: Official postcard with indicia showing Wagner in profile. The Festival Hall at Bayreuth is pictured along with inscription “Honor your German master.” Hitler loved Wagner’s operas, especially “Die Meistersinger.” The themes of Wagner’s operas appeared, especially to the Nazis, to glorify Germany’s ancient pagan past, its Teutonic mythology and heroic gods. Wagner himself, most notably in his writing, seemed as well to be anti-Semitic, lending further comfort to Nazi ideology. Prophetically, Hitler’s last visit to the opera was to see Wagner’s Gotterdammerung.https://digital.kenyon.edu/bulmash/2534/thumbnail.jp

A new genus, Sayapion Kissinger (type-species: Apion segnipes Say) is proposed for the 10 members of the Apion segnipes species group of Coelocephalapion Wagner orphaned when Coelocephalapion Wagner was raised to generic level (Kissinger, 1992). The species transferred from Apion to Sayapion as new combinations are as follows: Sayapion aponipes (Kissinger), S. arizonae (Fall), S. basale (Sharp), S. cinereum (Gerstaecker), S. laterale (Sharp), S. paranipes (Kissinger), S. pronipes (Kissinger), S. segnipes (Say), S. sublaterale (Kissinger), and S. terale (Kissinger)

A Decadence Baedeker: D'Annunzio's The Triumph of Death

    Get PDF
This article investigates how Gabriele D’Annunzio’s The Triumph of Death brings together Nietzsche’s ideas and Wagner’s music and interweaves them with the motifs of literary Decadence and the author’s own particular sexual politics. The novel is an experimental text striving to be a Gesemtkunstswerk, an integrated work that incorporates music, painting, poetry, regional folklore, and private thoughts about personal and national power. I discuss the novel’s themes of violent sexuality and the anxiety of powerlessness and explore their implications for the fascist political aesthetics in which D’Annunzio played a pioneering role

Reconsidering a transplant: A response to Wagner

    Get PDF
Nils-Frederic Wagner takes issue with my argument that influential critics of “transplant” thought experiments make two cardinal mistakes. He responds that the mistakes I identify are not mistakes at all. The mistakes are rather on my part, in that I have not taken into account the conceptual genesis of personhood, that my view of thought experiments is idiosyncratic and possibly self-defeating, and in that I have ignored important empirical evidence about the relationship between brains and minds. I argue that my case still stands and that transplant thought experiments can do damage to rivals of a psychological continuity theory of personal identity like Marya Schechtman’s Person Life View
