Real-Time Hand Shape Classification
The problem of hand shape classification is challenging since a hand is
characterized by a large number of degrees of freedom. Numerous shape
descriptors have been proposed and applied over the years to estimate and
classify hand poses in reasonable time. In this paper we discuss our parallel
framework for real-time hand shape classification applicable in real-time
applications. We show how the number of gallery images influences the
classification accuracy and execution time of the parallel algorithm. We
present the speedup and efficiency analyses that prove the efficacy of the
parallel implementation. Noteworthy, different methods can be used at each step
of our parallel framework. Here, we combine the shape contexts with the
appearance-based techniques to enhance the robustness of the algorithm and to
increase the classification score. An extensive experimental study proves the
superiority of the proposed approach over existing state-of-the-art methods.Comment: 11 page
A cross-national study of direct and indirect effects of cyberbullying on cybergrooming victimization via self-esteem
The present study reports frequency rates of cybergrooming, profiled characteristics of cybergrooming perpetrators, and examine direct and indirect associations between cyberbullying victimization, self-esteem, and cybergrooming victimization. The study sample included 2,162 adolescents between 11 and 19 years from three Western (Germany, the Netherlands, the United States) countries and one Southeast Asian country (Thailand). Across countries, 18.5% of participants reported having had contact with a cybergroomer. Western girls, as compared to boys, were at greater risk to have been contacted by a cybergroomer. No significant sex difference was found for Southeast Asian adolescents. Also, Southeast Asian adolescents reported higher rates of cybergroomer contact as compared to Western adolescents. Cybergroomers were most often males and older than victims. Both cyberbullying victimization and low self-esteem increased the probability of coming into contact with a cybergroomer, and self-esteem mediated the effects of cyberbullying victimization on cybergrooming victimization. The results are discussed in relation to practical implications and future research
First Results of Scanning Thermal Diffusivity Microscope (STDM) Measurements on Irradiated Monolithic and Dispersion Fuel
The thermal conductivity of the fuel material in a reactor before and during irradiation is a sensitive and fundamental parameter for thermal hydraulic calculations that are useds to correctly determine fuel heat fluxes and meat temperatures and to simulate performance of the fuel elements during operation. Several techniques have been developed to measure the thermal properties of fresh fuel to support these calculations, but it is crucial to also investigate the change of thermal properties during irradiation
Intraluminal instillation of urokinase and autologous plasma: a method to unblock occluded central venous ports
BACKGROUND: Therapeutic use and effective function of recombinant urokinase (r-UK) for occluded ports need the presence of plasminogen. METHODS: As a therapeutic proof of principle, we demonstrate that the use of r-UK and autologous plasma effectively reestablishes the function of occluded central venous ports (CVP) resistant to routine management of catheter occlusion. Five patients with occluded ports resistant to the routine management were treated. RESULTS: All patients were successfully treated with thrombolytic therapy using intraluminal instillation of r-UK and autologous plasma. CONCLUSION: Instillation of r-UK and autologous plasma is a safe and effective method for management of CVP occlusion

Microstructure Characterization of RERTR Fuel
A variety of phases have the potential to develop in the irradiated fuels for the reduced enrichment research test reactor (RERTR) program. To study the radiation stability of these potential phases, three depleted uranium alloys were cast. The phases of interest were identified including U(Si,Al)3, (U,Mo)(Si,Al)3, UMo2Al20, UAl4, and U6Mo4Al43. These alloys were irradiated with 2.6 MeV protons at 200ºC up to 3.0 dpa. The microstructure is characterized using SEM and TEM. Microstructural characterization for an archive dispersion fuel plate (U-7Mo fuel particles in Al-2%Si cladding) was also carried out. TEM sample preparation for the irradiated dispersion fuel has been developed

Radiation Effect on Microstructural Stability of RERTR Fuel
Three depleted uranium alloys are successfully cast for the radiation stability studies of the fuel-cladding interaction product using proton irradiation. SEM analysis indicates the presence of the phases of interest: U(Si,Al)3, (U,Mo)(Si,Al)3 and a mixture of UMo2Al20, U6Mo4Al43, and UAl4. Irradiation with 2.6 MeV protons at 200ºC to the doses of 0.1, 1.0 and 3.0 dpa are carried out
Nonlinear Coherence Effects in Transient-Absorption Ion Spectroscopy with Stochastic Extreme-Ultraviolet Free-Electron Laser Pulses
We demonstrate time-resolved nonlinear extreme-ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy on multiply charged ions, here applied to the doubly charged neon ion, driven by a phase-locked sequence of two intense free-electron laser pulses. Absorption signatures of resonance lines due to 2--3 bound--bound transitions between the spin-orbit multiplets P and D of the transiently produced doubly charged Ne ion are revealed, with time-dependent spectral changes over a time-delay range of . Furthermore, we observe 10-meV-scale spectral shifts of these resonances owing to the AC Stark effect. We use a time-dependent quantum model to explain the observations by an enhanced coupling of the ionic quantum states with the partially coherent free-electron-laser radiation when the phase-locked pump and probe pulses precisely overlap in time
Two-domains bulklike Fermi surface of Ag films deposited onto Si(111)-(7x7)
Thick metallic silver films have been deposited onto Si(111)-(7x7) substrates
at room temperature. Their electronic properties have been studied by using
angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). In addition to the
electronic band dispersion along the high-symmetry directions, the Fermi
surface topology of the grown films has been investigated. Using ARPES, the
spectral weight distribution at the Fermi level throughout large portions of
the reciprocal space has been determined at particular perpendicular
electron-momentum values. Systematically, the contours of the Fermi surface of
these films reflected a sixfold symmetry instead of the threefold symmetry of
Ag single crystal. This loss of symmetry has been attributed to the fact that
these films appear to be composed by two sets of domains rotated 60 from
each other. Extra, photoemission features at the Fermi level were also
detected, which have been attributed to the presence of surface states and
\textit{sp}-quantum states. The dimensionality of the Fermi surface of these
films has been analyzed studying the dependence of the Fermi surface contours
with the incident photon energy. The behavior of these contours measured at
particular points along the Ag L high-symmetry direction puts forward
the three-dimensional character of the electronic structure of the films
investigated.Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures, submitted to Physical Review
Electronic properties and Fermi surface of Ag(111) films deposited onto H-passivated Si(111)-(1x1) surfaces
Silver films were deposited at room temperature onto H-passivated Si(111)
surfaces. Their electronic properties have been analyzed by angle-resolved
photoelectron spectroscopy. Submonolayer films were semiconducting and the
onset of metallization was found at a Ag coverage of 0.6 monolayers. Two
surface states were observed at -point in the metallic films,
with binding energies of 0.1 and 0.35 eV. By measurements of photoelectron
angular distribution at the Fermi level in these films, a cross-sectional cut
of the Fermi surface was obtained. The Fermi vector determined along different
symmetry directions and the photoelectron lifetime of states at the Fermi level
are quite close to those expected for Ag single crystal. In spite of this
concordance, the Fermi surface reflects a sixfold symmetry rather than the
threefold symmetry of Ag single crystal. This behavior was attributed to the
fact that these Ag films are composed by two domains rotated 60.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures, submitted to Physical Review
Measures of Parent-Infant Interaction
Increasingly, programs for handicapped infants and toddlers are including in their intervention activities objectives related to the quality of parent-child interaction. As a consequence, it has become necessary for programs to assess the impact of these intervention efforts on parent behaviors. This article considers tools available for assessing parent-child interaction for program planning and evaluation. Lastly, recommendations are offered to guide the selection of a measure of parent-child interactions.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/69100/2/10.1177_027112148600600204.pd
