    DO SHOE COLLAR HEIGHT INFLUENCE THE KINEMATICS AND KINETICS OF ANKLE JOINT IN SAGITTAL PLANE MOVEMENT

    This study aims to investigate the effects of wearing high (HS) & low-top (LS) basketball shoes on the ankle joint kinematics, kinetics, and performance in the sagittal plane during different maneuvers. 12 subjects performed weight-bearing dorsiflexion (WB-DF) movement, drop jumps (DJ), and lay-up jumps (LU) in two shoe conditions. Wearing HS can significantly reduce ankle joint excursion in WB-DF. No significant differences were found in jumping height and kinematics between the two shoes. In LU, peak plantarflexion torque and power were significantly lower in HS. The high-top shoes adopted in this study did not restrict the ankle dorsiflexion performance during actual jumping. Thus, high shoe collar height would be applied to practical with caution of affecting the partial kinetic characteristics of the ankle joint in the sagittal plane

    Learning English Speaking through Mobile-Based Role-Plays: The Exploration of a Mobile English Language Learning App called Engage

    [EN] Engage is a new form of mobile application that connects students studying English with teachers in real-time via their smartphones. Students receive target language through preparation dialogues, and then apply it to a role-play with a teacher. The conceptualization and development of Engage follows the user-centred design approach; and the product was built through multiple iterations: in the first iteration, students were invited to try out a paper mock-up; in the second iteration, students tried out a mobile prototype; in the external test, a fully functional application was released to App Store between October 25 and November 20, 2012, and 326 users downloaded it. The application was well-received by these test users, reflected in the post-study survey, student ratings, and students’ usage records. The external tests proved that the technical environment of the application was feasible for production; and the operationalization of the teacher service and cost model were also proven to be feasible and scalable.Yang, B.; Zhou, S.; Ju, W.     CrossFusion: Interleaving Cross-modal Complementation for Noise-resistant 3D Object Detection

    The combination of LiDAR and camera modalities is proven to be necessary and typical for 3D object detection according to recent studies. Existing fusion strategies tend to overly rely on the LiDAR modal in essence, which exploits the abundant semantics from the camera sensor insufficiently. However, existing methods cannot rely on information from other modalities because the corruption of LiDAR features results in a large domain gap. Following this, we propose CrossFusion, a more robust and noise-resistant scheme that makes full use of the camera and LiDAR features with the designed cross-modal complementation strategy. Extensive experiments we conducted show that our method not only outperforms the state-of-the-art methods under the setting without introducing an extra depth estimation network but also demonstrates our model's noise resistance without re-training for the specific malfunction scenarios by increasing 5.2\% mAP and 2.4\% NDS

    Prognostic Value of Facial Nerve Antidromic Evoked Potentials in Bell Palsy: A Preliminary Study

    To analyze the value of facial nerve antidromic evoked potentials (FNAEPs) in predicting recovery from Bell palsy. Study Design. Retrospective study using electrodiagnostic data and medical chart review. Methods. A series of 46 patients with unilateral Bell palsy treated were included. According to taste test, 26 cases were associated with taste disorder (Group 1) and 20 cases were not (Group 2). Facial function was established clinically by the Stennert system after monthly follow-up. The result was evaluated with clinical recovery rate (CRR) and FNAEP. FNAEPs were recorded at the posterior wall of the external auditory meatus of both sides. Results. Mean CRR of Group 1 and Group 2 was 61.63% and 75.50%. We discovered a statistical difference between two groups and also in the amplitude difference (AD) of FNAEP. Mean ± SD of AD was −6.96% ± 12.66% in patients with excellent result, −27.67% ± 27.70% with good result, and −66.05% ± 31.76% with poor result. Conclusions. FNAEP should be monitored in patients with intratemporal facial palsy at the early stage. FNAEP at posterior wall of external auditory meatus was sensitive to detect signs of taste disorder. There was close relativity between FNAEPs and facial nerve recovery

    Multispectral Image Enhancement Based on the Dark Channel Prior and Bilateral Fractional Differential Model

    Compared with single-band remote sensing images, multispectral images can obtain information on the same target in different bands. By combining the characteristics of each band, we can obtain clearer enhanced images; therefore, we propose a multispectral image enhancement method based on the improved dark channel prior (IDCP) and bilateral fractional differential (BFD) model to make full use of the multiband information. First, the original multispectral image is inverted to meet the prior conditions of dark channel theory. Second, according to the characteristics of multiple bands, the dark channel algorithm is improved. The RGB channels are extended to multiple channels, and the spatial domain fractional differential mask is used to optimize the transmittance estimation to make it more consistent with the dark channel hypothesis. Then, we propose a bilateral fractional differentiation algorithm that enhances the edge details of an image through the fractional differential in the spatial domain and intensity domain. Finally, we implement the inversion operation to obtain the final enhanced image. We apply the proposed IDCP_BFD method to a multispectral dataset and conduct sufficient experiments. The experimental results show the superiority of the proposed method over relative comparison methods
