bcp: An R Package for Performing a Bayesian Analysis of Change Point Problems
Barry and Hartigan (1993) propose a Bayesian analysis for change point problems. We provide a brief summary of selected work on change point problems, both preceding and following Barry and Hartigan. We outline Barry and Hartigan's approach and offer a new R package, pkgbcp (Erdman and Emerson 2007), implementing their analysis. We discuss two frequentist alternatives to the Bayesian analysis, the recursive circular binary segmentation algorithm (Olshen and Venkatraman 2004) and the dynamic programming algorithm of (Bai and Perron 2003). We illustrate the application of bcp with economic and microarray data from the literature.
The On The Fly Imaging Technique
The On-The-Fly (OTF) imaging technique enables single-dish radio telescopes
to construct images of small areas of the sky with greater efficiency and
accuracy. This paper describes the practical application of the OTF imaging
technique. By way of example the implementation of the OTF imaging technique at
the NRAO 12 Meter Telescope is described. Specific requirements for data
sampling, image formation, and Doppler correction are discussed.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures, accepted A&
Still Waiting for Mister Right? Asymmetric Information, Abortion Laws and the Timing of Marriage
Previous studies have suggested that more liberal abortion laws should lead to a decrease in marriage rates among young women as 'shotgun weddings' are no longer necessary. Empirical evidence from the United States lends support to that hypothesis. This paper presents an alternative theory of abortion access and marriage based on asymmetric information, which suggests that more liberal abortion laws may actually promote young marriage. An empirical examination of marriage data from Eastern Europe shows that countries that liberalized their abortion laws saw an increase in marriage rates among non-teenage women.abortion, marriage asymmetric information
A thermal lattice Boltzmann model for micro/nano-flows
The dynamic behavior of charged micro and nanofluids plays a crucial role in a large variety of industrial and biological processes. Such dynamic behavior is characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of several competing mechanisms, such as electrostatic interactions, viscous dissipation and hydrodynamic effects, often taking place in complex geometries. This paper focuses on a thermal lattice Boltzmann model for micro/nano-flows
Certain Features of the Vegetation in Kansas Sand Hills
A consideration of some ecological factors influencing the stabilizing of these dune areas located in central Kansas. Heavy grazing interrupts the usual successions of plants, but wherever permitted the permanent climax of bunch-grass usual in the surrounding prairies takes possession and completes stabilization of the sand
