Improved Experimental Limits on the Production of Magnetic Monopoles
We present new limits on low mass accelerator-produced point-like Dirac
magnetic monopoles trapped and bound in matter surrounding the D\O collision
region of the Tevatron at Fermilab (experiment E-882). In the context of a
Drell-Yan mechanism, we obtain cross section limits for the production of
monopoles with magnetic charge values of 1, 2, 3, and 6 times the minimum Dirac
charge of the order of picobarns, some hundred times smaller than found in
similar previous Fermilab searches. Mass limits inferred from these cross
section limits are presented.Comment: 5 pages, 4 eps figures, REVTe

Limits on Production of Magnetic Monopoles Utilizing Samples from the DO and CDF Detectors at the Tevatron
We present 90% confidence level limits on magnetic monopole production at the
Fermilab Tevatron from three sets of samples obtained from the D0 and CDF
detectors each exposed to a proton-antiproton luminosity of
(experiment E-882). Limits are obtained for the production cross-sections and
masses for low-mass accelerator-produced pointlike Dirac monopoles trapped and
bound in material surrounding the D0 and CDF collision regions. In the absence
of a complete quantum field theory of magnetic charge, we estimate these limits
on the basis of a Drell-Yan model. These results (for magnetic charge values of
1, 2, 3, and 6 times the minimum Dirac charge) extend and improve previously
published bounds.Comment: 18 pages, 17 figures, REVTeX
Renewable Energy
This chapter presents an in-depth examination of major renewable energy technologies, including their installed capacity and energy supply in 2009 , the current state of market and technology development, their economic and financial feasibility in 2009 and in the near future,
as well as major issues they may face relative to their sustainability
or implementation. Renewable energy sources have been important for humankind since the beginning of civilization. For centuries, biomass has been used for heating, cooking, steam generation, and power production;
solar energy has been used for heating and drying; geothermal energy has been used for hot water supplies; hydropower, for movement;
and wind energy, for pumping and irrigation. For many decades renewable energy sources have also been used to produce electricity or
other modern energy carriers
Arachnida at "Reserva Ducke", Central Amazonia/Brazil
The class Arachnida contains 11 recent orders: Acari, Amblypygi, Araneae, Opiliones, Palpigradi, Pseudoscorpiones, Ricinulei, Schizomida, Scorpiones, Solifugae and Uropygi (Thelyphonida). In total, >570 families, >9165 genera and >93455 species are known world-wide. More than 136 families, >482 genera and >1547 described species occur in Amazonia. Data show, that almost one-fourth of the families presently known in the Arachnida and about 2% of the worlds described species are represented in Amazonia. In the forest reserve 'Reserva Ducke' near Manaus, the Acari-Oribatida represent 45 families, 72 genera and 35 described species, the Aranea 30 families, 143 genera and 295 described species, the Opiliones 5 families, 7 genera and 8 decribed species, the Scorpiones 2 families, 4 genera and 5 described species, the Pseudoscorpiones 6 families, 11 genera, and 15 described species, the Schizomida, 1 family, 2 genera and 2 described species, and the Amblypygi, Palpigradi, Solifugae and Uropygi (Thelyphonida) one species each. Most names are liste
A Measurement of the Ds+ Lifetime
A high statistics measurement of the Ds+ lifetime from the Fermilab
fixed-target FOCUS photoproduction experiment is presented. We describe the
analysis of the two decay modes, Ds+ -> phi(1020)pi+ and Ds+ ->
\bar{K}*(892)0K+, used for the measurement. The measured lifetime is 507.4 +/-
5.5 (stat.) +/- 5.1 (syst.) fs using 8961 +/- 105 Ds+ -> phi(1020)pi+ and 4680
+/- 90 Ds+ -> \bar{K}*(892)0K+ decays. This is a significant improvement over
the present world average.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, submitted to PR
