    Fractal index, central charge and fractons

    We introduce the notion of fractal index associated with the universal class hh of particles or quasiparticles, termed fractons, which obey specific fractal statistics. A connection between fractons and conformal field theory(CFT)-quasiparticles is established taking into account the central charge c[Ī½]c[\nu] and the particle-hole duality Ī½āŸ·1Ī½\nu\longleftrightarrow\frac{1}{\nu}, for integer-value Ī½\nu of the statistical parameter. In this way, we derive the Fermi velocity in terms of the central charge as vāˆ¼c[Ī½]Ī½+1v\sim\frac{c[\nu]}{\nu+1}. The Hausdorff dimension hh which labelled the universal classes of particles and the conformal anomaly are therefore related. Following another route, we also established a connection between Rogers dilogarithm function, Farey series of rational numbers and the Hausdorff dimension.Comment: latex, 12 pages, To appear in Mod.     Quantum Theory of Atomsā€“inā€“Molecules bond critical point and delocalisation index metrics are calculated for the actinide-element bonds in Cs2UO2Cl4, U(Se2PPh2)4 and Np(Se2PPh2)4, in gas-phase, continuum solvent (COSMO) and via the periodic electrostatic embedded cluster method. The effects of the environment are seen to be very minor, suggesting that they do not account for the differences previously observed between the experimental and theoretical QTAIM Ļb and āˆ‡2Ļb for the U-O bonds in Cs2UO2Cl4. With the exception of the local density approximation, there is only a small dependence of the QTAIM metrics on the exchangeā€“correlation functional employed

    Application of radioactive tracers in the study of sediment movement

    CER63DWH-WWS5.For presentation at Federal Inter-Agency Sedimentation Conference, Jackson, Mississippi, January 28-February 1, 1963.Radioactive tracer techniques were employed in order to investigate the dispersion and transport of bed material in a test reach of the North Loup River near Purdum, Nebraska. Sand particles, labelled with Iridium-192, were used as tracers to enable observation of the natural dispersion and transport processes. The amount of radioactivity and the number of tracer particles required for the experiment was determined by considering the sensitivity of the radiation-detection system, the characteristics of the test reach, and radiological safety considerations. In the experiment, the tracer particles were released from a line source which extended across the bed of the stream. As the tracer particles were transported and dispersed downstream, their longitudinal and lateral distributions in the bed were observed by periodic surveys with a sled-mounted scintillation detector, and their vertical distribution in the bed was observed by monitoring core samples. Information obtained from a laboratory calibration of the radiation-detection system under simulated field conditions was used to reduce the field data to a set of tracer-particle concentration-distribution curves. The results of the field study indicate a potential for the wide application of radioactive tracer in sediment studies
