    Epigenomes in Cardiovascular Disease.

    If unifying principles could be revealed for how the same genome encodes different eukaryotic cells and for how genetic variability and environmental input are integrated to impact cardiovascular health, grand challenges in basic cell biology and translational medicine may succumb to experimental dissection. A rich body of work in model systems has implicated chromatin-modifying enzymes, DNA methylation, noncoding RNAs, and other transcriptome-shaping factors in adult health and in the development, progression, and mitigation of cardiovascular disease. Meanwhile, deployment of epigenomic tools, powered by next-generation sequencing technologies in cardiovascular models and human populations, has enabled description of epigenomic landscapes underpinning cellular function in the cardiovascular system. This essay aims to unpack the conceptual framework in which epigenomes are studied and to stimulate discussion on how principles of chromatin function may inform investigations of cardiovascular disease and the development of new therapies

    Identities among relations for higher-dimensional rewriting systems

    We generalize the notion of identities among relations, well known for presentations of groups, to presentations of n-categories by polygraphs. To each polygraph, we associate a track n-category, generalizing the notion of crossed module for groups, in order to define the natural system of identities among relations.     Multiple human herpesvirus-8 infection

    In Malawian patients with Kaposi sarcoma (KS) and their relatives, we investigated nucleotide-sequence variation in human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) subgenomic DNA, amplified from oral and blood samples by use of polymerase chain reaction. Twenty-four people had amplifiable HHV-8 DNA in >1 sample; 9 (38%) were seropositive for human immunodeficiency virus type 1, 21 (88%) were anti-HHV-8-seropositive, and 7 (29%) had KS. Sequence variation was sought in 3 loci of the HHV-8 genome: the internal repeat domain of open-reading frame (ORF) 73, the KS330 segment of ORF 26, and variable region 1 of ORF K1. Significant intraperson/intersample and intrasample sequence polymorphisms were observed in 14 people (60%). For 3 patients with KS, intraperson genotypic differences, arising from nucleotide sequence variations in ORFs 26 and K1, were found in blood and oral samples. For 2 other patients with KS and for 9 people without KS, intraperson genotypic and subgenotypic differences, originating predominantly from ORF K1, were found in oral samples; for the 2 patients with KS and for 4 individuals without KS, intrasample carriage of distinct ORF K1 sequences also were discernible.     Deficits in social behavioral domains, such as interpersonal communication, emotion recognition, and empathy, are a characteristic symptom in several neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The neuropeptide oxytocin (OT) has emerged as a key regulator of diverse social behaviors in vertebrates and, thus, has been identified as a potential therapeutic target for improving social dysfunction. In recent years, the field of OT research has seen an explosion of scientific inquiry, producing a more comprehensive picture of oxytocinergic signaling and the pathways that regulate its release and degradation in the brain. In this review, we provide an analysis of how this information is being exploited to accelerate the discovery of novel oxytocinergic therapeutics

    The purpose of this study was funding the effect of optimism and empathy for students' self-efficacy School Football (SSB) Baturetno Banguntapan Yogyakarta. The samples used in this study is 113 students Football School Baturetno Banguntapan Yogyakarta. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The analysis of the data used in this study is the multiple linear regression.The results showed that empathy and optimism had a significant influence on students ' self-efficacy football school. It can be seen from the coefficient R2 = 0.583 and p = 0.001, which means that given the effective contribution of 58.3%. With these results we can conclude that optimism and empathy have an influence on students' self-efficacy football school (SSB) Baturetno Banguntapan Yogyakarta

    Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis: progress and challenges

    The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) is based on typical neurological symptoms and signs along with evidence of dissemination of central nervous system (CNS) lesions in space and time. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is often sufficient to confirm the diagnosis when characteristic lesions of MS accompany a typical clinical syndrome, but in some patients, further supportive information can be obtained from cerebrospinal fluid examination and neurophysiological testing. It is important to differentiate MS not only from other diseases in which demyelination is a feature e.g. neuromyelitis spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), but also non-demyelinating conditions such as chronic small vessel disease and other inflammatory, granulomatous, infective, metabolic and genetic causes that can mimic MS. Advances in MRI, serological and genetic tests have greatly helped in distinguishing MS from these conditions, but misdiagnosis can occur. In this review, we explore the progress and challenges in the diagnosis of MS with reference to diagnostic criteria, important differential diagnoses, current controversies and uncertainties, and future prospects

    The purpose of this research is to know about life motivation of lupus sufferer when an individual face difficult periods and comes up from the cobdition which is full limitation after the doctor diagnoses lupus disease. Subject of the research is someone who is attacked by lupus. The range of age is from 25 until 35. This research will be held at subject's house which is in Gombong sub distric, Kebumen district. The methods that are used are observation, interview and the use of triangulation technic to strengthen the result. The result of analyzing data is based on three aspect of motivation, it is concluded that having positive attitude, oriented on achievement of a goal, and streng that motivates an individual becomes one influence that supports life motivation for the subject

    Health promotion, disease prevention and periodic health checks: perceptions and practice among family physicians in eastern Mediterranean region

    Introduction: The aim of this study was to identify the current practices and perceptions of family physicians regarding health promotion, disease prevention including periodic screening and health checks in Eastern Mediterranean Region. Methods: A multi-country cross-sectional study was conducted in six countries of EMR, from September 2014 to March 2015. Family Physicians who were currently practicing in different countries of EMR were invited to participate in the study through email. A pre-tested structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Data was entered and analyzed on SPSS 19 and logistic regression analysis was performed. Results: A total of 100 physicians data was included in the final analysis. The majority were female physicians (76%): 63% were 25 to 35 years of age. Approximately 53% of Family physicians always recommend periodic screening and health checks to their patients. The common screening question asked to patients in medical history was related to their blood pressure (86%). Almost all (99%) of the Family physicians believe they should conduct periodic health checks. Those who had postgraduate training in Family Medicine (OR: 0.5; 95% CI: 0.39-1.67) and attended CME sessions regularly (OR: 0.11; 95% CI: 0.01-0.93), are more likely to recommend periodic screening and health checks to their patients. Conclusion: Periodic screening and health check is an important strategy to prevent disease and maintain health. It is an underutilized practice and a great need exists for its implementation in family practice
