The Influence of Electrostatic Truncation on Simulations of Polarizable Systems
Different schemes for the treatment of long-ranged electrostatic interactions
will be examined for water simulations using the polarizable fluctuating charge
potential. Several different methods are compared, including Ewald sums,
potential shifting, spherical truncation and reaction field corrections. For
liquid water, properties such as the energy, pressure, dynamics and structure
are more sensitive to the treatment of the long-ranged interactions with

New genera, species, and records of Acanthocinini (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) from Hispaniola
Two new genera of Acanthocinini (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), Luctithonus Lingafelter and DuocrisÂtala Lingafelter, are described from Hispaniola. Two new species of Luctithonus are described: Luctithonus aski Lingafelter and L. duartensis Lingafelter. A third species, L. pantherinus (Zayas), is newly recorded from HispanÂiola and the Dominican Republic (new country record), and transferred from Sternidius Haldeman as a new combination. Additional new species of Lamiinae are described from Hispaniola: Eugamandus albipumilus Lingafelter; Leptostylopsis opuntiae Lingafelter; and Lethes turnbowi Lingafelter. Keys to tribes of Lamiinae, genera of Acanthocinini, and species of Luctithonus in Hispaniola are included
Rethinking sport, empire, and American exceptionalism
This article examines the correlation between sports history and American imperialism and exceptionalism. More specifically, the author argues against a view of sport historiography which excludes debates within social and cultural history. It is the author's suggestion that established themes in sports historiography, when considered within the context of American imperialism, can expand the understanding of American sports within global history, in effect, allowing sports historians to generate effective cross-cultural analysis. Particular focus is given by the author to the emphasis on how historical generalizations and anecdotes establish imperialism in the sporting history of America
High Energy Cosmic Neutrinos
While the general principles of high-energy neutrino detection have been
understood for many years, the deep, remote geographical locations of suitable
detector sites have challenged the ingenuity of experimentalists, who have
confronted unusual deployment, calibration, and robustness issues. Two high
energy neutrino programs are now operating (Baikal and AMANDA), with the
expectation of ushering in an era of multi-messenger astronomy, and two
Mediterranean programs have made impressive progress. The detectors are
optimized to detect neutrinos with energies of the order of 1-10 TeV, although
they are capable of detecting neutrinos with energies of tens of MeV to greater
than PeV. This paper outlines the interdisciplinary scientific agenda, which
span the fields of astronomy, particle physics, and cosmic ray physics, and
