An improved dual-frequency technique for the remote sensing of ocean currents and wave spectra
A two frequency microwave radar technique for the remote sensing of directional ocean wave spectra and surface currents is investigated. This technique is conceptually attractive because its operational physical principle involves a spatial electromagnetic scattering resonance with a single, but selectable, long gravity wave. Multiplexing of signals having different spacing of the two transmitted frequencies allows measurements of the entire long wave ocean spectrum to be carried out. A new scatterometer is developed and experimentally tested which is capable of making measurements having much larger signal/background values than previously possible. This instrument couples the resonance technique with coherent, frequency agility radar capabilities. This scatterometer is presently configured for supporting a program of surface current measurements
CSI Flight Computer System and experimental test results
This paper describes the CSI Computer System (CCS) and the experimental tests performed to validate its functionality. This system is comprised of two major components: the space flight qualified Excitation and Damping Subsystem (EDS) which performs controls calculations; and the Remote Interface Unit (RIU) which is used for data acquisition, transmission, and filtering. The flight-like RIU is the interface between the EDS and the sensors and actuators positioned on the particular structure under control. The EDS and RIU communicate over the MIL-STD-1553B, a space flight qualified bus. To test the CCS under realistic conditions, it was connected to the Phase-0 CSI Evolutionary Model (CEM) at NASA Langley Research Center. The following schematic shows how the CCS is connected to the CEM. Various tests were performed which validated the ability of the system to perform control/structures experiments

Thermal and visual comfort for the occupants of a
room are not defined by air temperature only, but also
radiation with its three components solar radiation,
daylight and heat radiation has to be taken into account
(among other factors such as humidity, air speed and
occupant activity and clothing levels). In hot climates the
optimization of room comfort is a challenging task due
to the high solar radiation over the whole year.
In intelligent buildings new material developments
are applied optimizing the building envelope in an
integral building design process. New solutions for
weather, noise and heat protection are developed, where
building envelope and installed mechanical equipment
work together creating optimal comfort at minimum
energy consumption.
This approach was used in the design of the New
Bangkok International Airport, NBIA to develop an
optimized building concept in a design team comprising
the architects, structural and mechanical engineers,
HVAC, acoustic and climate engineers
Assessing Religious Orientations: Replication and Validation of the Commitment-Reflectivity Circumplex (CRC) Model
The Commitment-Reflectivity Circumplex (CRC) model is a structural model of religious orientation that was designed to help organize and clarify measurement of foundational aspect of religiousness. The current study successfully replicated the CRC model using multidimensional scaling, and further evaluated the reliability, structure, and validity of their measures in both a university student sample (Study 1) and a nationally representative sample (Study 2). All 10 subscales of the Circumplex Religious Orientation Inventory (CROI) demonstrated good reliability across both samples. A two-week test-retest of the CROI showed that the subscales are stable over time. A confirmatory factor analysis of the CROI in the representative adult sample demonstrated good model fit. Finally, the CROI’s validity was examined in relation to the Intrinsic, Extrinsic and Quest measures. Overall, the CROI appears to clarify much of the ambiguity inherent in the established scales by breaking down what were very broad orientations into very specific suborientations. The results suggest that the CRC model is applicable for diverse populations of adults. In addition, the CROI appears to be construct valid with good structural and psychometric properties across all 10 subscales
