Improving a Family’s Overall Quality of Life Through Parent Training in Pivotal Response Treatment
As the diagnoses of autism in young children continually increase, the need for families to have access to research-based treatment models that are effective and efficient has become clear. Current research demonstrates the demand for parent-delivered behavioral interventions. The aim of this single-case study, conducted as part of an integrated Masters in Education/Special Education Credential Program, was to examine the relationship between one parent trained in pivotal response treatment (PRT), her implementation of PRT techniques, and the correlated gains of behavioral compliance in her 6-year-old boy with high-functioning autism (HFA). Visual analysis of collected data as well as calculation of nonoverlapping data points suggest that a parent, when effectively trained, can utilize PRT to increase the rate of behavioral compliance of his or her own children

Abstract : A 29-year-old man with rapidly destructive Staphylococcus epidermidis endocarditis after mitral valve reconstruction is presented. Resistance to rifampin and teicoplanin occurred during antibiotic treatment resulting in clinical failure and valve destruction. Subsequently, the patient was successfully treated, by combining valve replacement with antibiotic therapy including quinupristin/dalfopristin, levofloxacin, and vancomycin. Angiotensin mediates renal fibrosis in the nephropathy of glycogen storage disease type Ia
Patients with glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSD-Ia) develop renal disease of unknown etiology despite intensive dietary therapies. This renal disease shares many clinical and pathological similarities to diabetic nephropathy. We studied the expression of angiotensinogen, angiotensin type 1 receptor, transforming growth factor-β1, and connective tissue growth factor in mice with GSD-Ia and found them to be elevated compared to controls. While increased renal expression of angiotensinogen was evident in 2-week-old mice with GSD-Ia, the renal expression of transforming growth factor-β and connective tissue growth factor did not increase for another week; consistent with upregulation of these factors by angiotensin II. The expression of fibronectin and collagens I, III, and IV was also elevated in the kidneys of mice with GSD-Ia, compared to controls. Renal fibrosis was characterized by a marked increase in the synthesis and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins in the renal cortex and histological abnormalities including tubular basement membrane thickening, tubular atrophy, tubular dilation, and multifocal interstitial fibrosis. Infections with varicella zoster virus (VZV) are common viral infections associated with significant morbidity. Diagnosis and management are complex, particularly in immunocompromised patients and during pregnancy. The present recommendations have been established by a multidisciplinary panel of specialists and endorsed by numerous Swiss medical societies involved in the medical care of such patients (Appendix). A Black Ring with two Angular Momenta in Taub-NUT
We use the recently-constructed explicit duality transformation that relates
a rotating anti-D6-D4-D2-D0 black hole solution to a rotating M5-M2-P black
string to construct a non-supersymmetric black ring in Taub-NUT that has two
angular momenta, as well as M2 charges and M5 dipole moments. This is the first
black ring solution that has both dipole charges and rotation along the S^2 of
the horizon, and hence can be thought of as the "Pomeransky-Senkov" version of
the M5-M2 black ring in Taub-NUT. Its physics should provide a testing ground
for the applicability of the blackfold approach to charged rotating black
branes, and should elucidate the phase space of charged dipole rings in various

Academic team formation as evolving hypergraphs
This paper quantitatively explores the social and socio-semantic patterns of
constitution of academic collaboration teams. To this end, we broadly underline
two critical features of social networks of knowledge-based collaboration:
first, they essentially consist of group-level interactions which call for
team-centered approaches. Formally, this induces the use of hypergraphs and
n-adic interactions, rather than traditional dyadic frameworks of interaction
such as graphs, binding only pairs of agents. Second, we advocate the joint
consideration of structural and semantic features, as collaborations are
allegedly constrained by both of them. Considering these provisions, we propose
a framework which principally enables us to empirically test a series of
hypotheses related to academic team formation patterns. In particular, we
exhibit and characterize the influence of an implicit group structure driving
recurrent team formation processes. On the whole, innovative production does
not appear to be correlated with more original teams, while a polarization
appears between groups composed of experts only or non-experts only, altogether
corresponding to collectives with a high rate of repeated interactions
Training infection control and hospital hygiene professionals in Europe, 2010: agreed core competencies among 33 European countries
The harmonisation of training programmes for infection control and hospital hygiene (IC/HH) professionals in Europe is a requirement of the Council recommendation on patient safety. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control commissioned the ‘Training Infection Control in Europe’ project to develop a consensus on core competencies for IC/HH professionals in the European Union (EU). Core competencies were drafted on the basis of the Improving Patient Safety in Europe (IPSE) project’s core curriculum (CC), evaluated by questionnaire and approved by National Representatives (NRs) for IC/HH training. NRs also re-assessed the status of IC/HH training in European countries in 2010 in comparison with the situation before the IPSE CC in 2006. The IPSE CC had been used to develop or update 28 of 51 IC/HH courses. Only 10 of 33 countries offered training and qualification for IC/HH doctors and nurses. The proposed core competencies are structured in four areas and 16 professional tasks at junior and senior level. They form a reference for standardisation of IC/HH professional competencies and support recognition of training initiatives
Imaginary Soaring Branes: A Hidden Feature of Non-Extremal Solutions
A key property of many BPS solutions of supergravity is the fact that certain
probe branes placed in these solutions feel no force, essentially because
electric repulsion and gravitational attraction balance one another. In this
letter we show that the existence of brane probes that feel no force is also a
property of many non-supersymmetric, non-extremal solutions of supergravity.
This observation requires a new class of brane probes that move with constant
velocity along one or several internal directions of the solution but the
zero-force condition that makes the branes "float along" at constant speed, or
soar, requires the velocity to be purely imaginary. While these probes are not
physical, their no-force condition implies the existence of hidden relations
between the warp factors and electric potentials of non-extremal solutions in
certain duality frames, and this provides insight into the structure of such
solutions and can greatly simplify the search for them.Comment: 14 pages LeTe
Supergravity Solutions from Floating Branes
We solve the equations of motion of five-dimensional ungauged supergravity
coupled to three U(1) gauge fields using a floating-brane Ansatz in which the
electric potentials are directly related to the gravitational warp factors. We
find a new class of non-BPS solutions, that can be obtained linearly starting
from an Euclidean four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell base. This class - the
largest known so far - reduces to the BPS and almost-BPS solutions in certain
limits. We solve the equations explicitly when the base space is given by the
Israel-Wilson metric, and obtain solutions describing non-BPS D6 and anti-D6
branes kept in equilibrium by flux. We also examine the action of spectral flow
on solutions with an Israel-Wilson base and show that it relates these
solutions to almost-BPS solutions with a Gibbons-Hawking base.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figur
