    Sporadic Bovine Encephalomyelitis

    Get PDF
The infectious agent of sporadic bovine encephalomyelitis has now been propagated for nearly three years in developing chick embryos. This has afforded a convenient method of propagation while studying the causal agent. It is interesting that during all of this time in chick embryos, which represents more than 135 passages in series, there has been no apparent variation in the character of the infectious agent. It is as pathogenic for guinea pigs and cattle as when first isolated. Failure to recognize anything in the tissues of affected animals that would indicate the exact nature of the entity which causes the disease, led to an extension of the histological study to infected chick embryos, especially their membranes and yolk sacs

Synthesis of Healable Organic Semiconductor Through Dioxaborolane Bond

    Get PDF
The field of organic semiconductors have gained enormous attention the past few decades. Organic materials offer numerous advantages over their inorganic counterparts. Recently a number of works have demonstrated organic semiconductors with healable properties. We aim to investigate the healable ability of an organic semiconductor by mimicking a vitrimer system through the reversible dioxaborolane bond. Vitrimers are polymers with reversible crosslink system. It has been reported that the use of the borane-oxygen bond as the crosslink showed good mechanical performance. The electrical properties will be inspected for the vitrimer-like polymer. In this report we describe a Diketopyrrolopyrrole base polymer incorporating reversible dioxaborolane bonds synthesized through borane esterification. The electrical properties and the healing properties of the polymer will be investigated. Here, we present the progress of synthesizing to the monomer, and we report the trials for the reactions. The predicted result for the overall yield of the monomer is 30-40%

Ground speed : its influence on the direct seeding of jack pine (Pinus banksiana Lamb.) with the Bracke scarifier

    Get PDF
The effects that ground speed and obstacle height have upon microsite creation by the Bracke scarifier and upon the seeding characteristics of the integral seeder were studied. The study was conducted in a former gravel pit with homologous soil conditions and uniform obstacle sizes to minimize sources of variation. Jack pine {Pinus banksiana Lamb.) seed was treated with ^Scandium, a gamma-emitting labelling agent. The trial involved running the scarification unit at four speeds, over three obstacle sizes. Data were collected on microsite dimensions, seeder performance and seed placement. A field trial was also conducted to follow trends seen in the gravel pit portion. Results indicated that the height of an obstacle had more effect on microsite attributes, seeder performance and seed placement than did the ground speed at which the scarifier was drawn. Microsite length and longitudinal seed placement decreased as obstacle height increased, while lateral seed placement increased with increasing obstacle height. It was recommended that the Bracke scarifier/seeder be operated at 40 m/min in order to reduce the influence of obstacles. The seeder must be properly calibrated to account for the influence of obstacles: a modified technique was discussed. Trends observed in the gravel pit trial were not apparent in the smaller field trial

ASTRO Journals' Data Sharing Policy and Recommended Best Practices.

Transparency, openness, and reproducibility are important characteristics in scientific publishing. Although many researchers embrace these characteristics, data sharing has yet to become common practice. Nevertheless, data sharing is becoming an increasingly important topic among societies, publishers, researchers, patient advocates, and funders, especially as it pertains to data from clinical trials. In response, ASTRO developed a data policy and guide to best practices for authors submitting to its journals. ASTRO's data sharing policy is that authors should indicate, in data availability statements, if the data are being shared and if so, how the data may be accessed

Permanent Draft Genome sequence for Frankia sp. strain CcI49, a Nitrogen-Fixing Bacterium Isolated from Casuarina cunninghamiana that Infects Elaeagnaceae

    Get PDF
Frankia sp. strain CcI49 was isolated from Casuarina cunninghamiana nodules. However the strain was unable to re-infect Casuarina, but was able to infect other actinorhizal plants including Elaeagnaceae. Here, we report the 9.8-Mbp draft genome sequence of Frankia sp. strain CcI49 with a G+C content of 70.5 % and 7,441 candidate protein-encoding genes. Analysis of the genome revealed the presence of a bph operon involved in the degradation of biphenyls and polychlorinated biphenyls
