Dual-Polarization OFDM-OQAM Wireless Communication System

In this paper we describe the overall idea and results of a recently proposed radio access technique based on filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) communication system using two orthogonal polarizations: dual-polarization FBMC (DP-FBMC). Using this system we can alleviate the intrinsic interference problem in FBMC systems. This enables use of all the multicarrier techniques used in cyclic-prefix orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) systems for channel equalization, multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) processing, etc., without using the extra processing required for conventional FBMC. DP-FBMC also provides other interesting advantages over CP-OFDM and FBMC such as more robustness in multipath fading channels, and more robustness to receiver carrier frequency offset (CFO) and timing offset (TO). For DP-FBMC we propose three different structures based on different multiplexing techniques in time, frequency, and polarization. We will show that one of these structures has exactly the same system complexity and equipment as conventional FBMC. In our simulation results DP-FBMC has better bit error ratio (BER) performance in dispersive channels. PAPR Analysis for Dual-Polarization FBMC

In a recent work we proposed a new radio access technique based on filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC) modulation using two orthogonal polarizations: dual-polarization FBMC (DP-FBMC). We showed that with good cross-polarization discrimination (XPD), DP-FBMC solves the intrinsic imaginary interference shortcoming of FBMC without extra processing. DP-FBMC also has other interesting advantages over cyclic prefix orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CP-OFDM) and FBMC such as more robustness in dispersive channels, and it is also more robust to receiver carrier frequency offset (CFO) and timing offset (TO). In this paper we analyze the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of DP-FBMC and compare PAPR simulation results with that of conventional FBMC, for different prototype filters and overlapping factors. A series of novel mono-1,2,3-triazole and bis-1,2,3-triazole acyclonucleoside analogues of 9-(4-hydroxybutyl)guanine was prepared via copper(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of N-9 propargylpurine, N-1-propargylpyrimidines/as-triazine with the azido-pseudo-sugar 4-azidobutylacetate under solvent-free microwave conditions, followed by treatment with K2CO3/MeOH, or NH3/MeOH. On the capacity achieving covariance matrix for Rician MIMO channels: an asymptotic approach

The capacity-achieving input covariance matrices for coherent block-fading correlated MIMO Rician channels are determined. In this case, no closed-form expressions for the eigenvectors of the optimum input covariance matrix are available. An approximation of the average mutual information is evaluated in this paper in the asymptotic regime where the number of transmit and receive antennas converge to $+\infty$. New results related to the accuracy of the corresponding large system approximation are provided. An attractive optimization algorithm of this approximation is proposed and we establish that it yields an effective way to compute the capacity achieving covariance matrix for the average mutual information. Finally, numerical simulation results show that, even for a moderate number of transmit and receive antennas, the new approach provides the same results as direct maximization approaches of the average mutual information, while being much more computationally attractive.Comment: 56 pp. Extended version of the published article in IEEE Inf. Dissents and Concurrences: Seven Debates in Charter Jurisprudence

The Supreme Court of Canada released seven Charter decisions in 2012 that were not unanimous. When compared to the non-Charter cases released the same year, the Charter dissents represented a higher rate of disagreement between the justices. This should not come as a surprise. The Charter is an open-textured instrument that admits of flexibility and growth. Dissents and differing approaches are expected as Charter jurisprudence continues to develop. This paper argues that the seven Charter dissents/concurrences released in 2012 provide a rich illustration of the various functions of dissenting opinions. As articulated by Justice L’Heureux-Dubé, these are: to prophesize, to stir dialogue, and to safeguard the integrity of the law and judicial institutions. Each of these functions takes on a special dimension in the realm of Charter jurisprudence. In their prophetic function, dissents are intimately connected to the doctrine of the living tree — recognizing, as it does, that there will be a future audience of constitutional opinions that will not necessarily share the constraints of our more dated institutions. The dialogic function of dissents, likewise, takes on additional significance in this context. Charter dissents are a fundamental part of the forward-looking conversation between courts and society, giving the m the potential to shape, over the long term, the societal values they engage. Finally, dissents in Charter cases essentially promote the integrity of our judicial institutions. The “fierce independence” of the justices on constitutional matters necessitates real opportunities to dissent
