The NJL-jet model for quark fragmentation functions
A description of fragmentation functions which satisfy the momentum and
isospin sum rules is presented in an effective quark theory. Concentrating on
the pion fragmentation function, we first explain why the elementary (lowest
order) fragmentation process q --> q \pi is completely inadequate to describe
the empirical data, although the "crossed" process \pi --> q \bar{q} describes
the quark distribution functions in the pion reasonably well. Taking into
account cascade-like processes in a generalized jet-model approach, we then
show that the momentum and isospin sum rules can be satisfied naturally,
without the introduction of ad hoc parameters. We present results for the
Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in the invariant mass regularization scheme and
compare them with the empirical parametrizations. We argue that the NJL-jet
model, developed herein, provides a useful framework with which to calculate
the fragmentation functions in an effective chiral quark theory.Comment: 21 pages, 7 figure
Large-scale Simulation of the Two-dimensional Kinetic Ising Model
We present Monte Carlo simulation results for the dynamical critical exponent
of the two-dimensional kinetic Ising model using a lattice of size spins. We used Glauber as well as Metropolis dynamics. The

On the Algebraic Structure of Gravitational Descendants in CP(n-1) Coset Models
We investigate how specific free-field realizations of twisted N=2
supersymmetric coset models give rise to natural extensions of the ``matter''
Hilbert spaces in such a manner as to incorporate the various gravitational
excitations. In particular, we show that adopting a particular screening
prescription is equivalent to imposing the requisite equivariance condition on
cohomology. We find a simple algebraic characterization of the
-gravitational ground ring spectra of these theories in terms of
affine- highest weights..Comment: 12p, harvmac/lanlmac with hyperlinks, 1 uuencoded PostScript figure,

Quality-equivalent and cost adjusted measurement of international competitiveness in Japanese rice markets:
In this research, the quality of foreign japonica rices was evaluated in terms of prices relative to Japanese domestic retail prices. Then, retail prices, consumer benefit, and competitiveness among the foreign rices in the Japanese market were estimated assuming those rices were imported at prices based on their production and transportation costs. According to the results, rices produced in China are quite superior to rices grown in the United States. Further, a 700 percent of tariff, which was discussed in the GATT negotiation and assumed to be imposed on rices imported to Japan, appears to be too low for Chinese rices and too high for American rices.Rice Prices Japan., Tariff on farm produce Japan.,
Aging of the Zero-Field-Cooled Magnetization in Ising Spin Glasses: Experiment and Numerical Simulation
A new protocol of the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization process is
studied experimentally on an Ising spin-glass (SG)
FeMnTiO and numerically on the Edwards-Anderson Ising SG
model. Although the time scales differ very much between the experiment and the
simulation, the behavior of the ZFC magnetization observed in the two systems
can be interpreted by means of a common scaling expression based on the droplet
picture. The results strongly suggest that the SG coherence length, or the mean
size of droplet excitations, involved even in the experimental ZFC process, is
about a hundred lattice distances or less.Comment: 4 pages, 5 fugure
Preparation of perfluorinated 1,2,4-oxadiazoles
Fluorinated alkyl or alkylether 1,2,4 oxadiazole compounds are prepared by cyclizing the corresponding alkyl or alkylether imidoyl amidoximes in vacuo or in an inert atmosphere at a temperature within the range of 40 C to 100 C. for a period of 8 to 144 hours in the presence of an acid compound which can accept ammonia to form a salt. The imidoyl amidoximes usable in this process are either polymeric or nonpolymeric. The products, when polymeric, have excellent heat, chemical and solvent resistance
Exact Mapping of the 2+1 Dirac Oscillator onto the Jaynes-Cummings Model: Ion-Trap Experimental Proposal
We study the dynamics of the 2+1 Dirac oscillator exactly and find spin
oscillations due to a {\it Zitterbewegung} of purely relativistic origin. We
find an exact mapping of this quantum-relativistic system onto a
Jaynes-Cummings model, describing the interaction of a two-level atom with a
quantized single-mode field. This equivalence allows us to map a series of
quantum optical phenomena onto the relativistic oscillator, and viceversa. We
make a realistic experimental proposal, at reach with current technology, for
studying the equivalence of both models using a single trapped ion.Comment: Revtex4, submitted for publicatio
Infinitesimal incommensurate stripe phase in an axial next-nearest-neighbor Ising model in two dimensions
An axial next-nearest-neighbor Ising (ANNNI) model is studied by using the
non-equilibrium relaxation method. We find that the incommensurate stripe phase
between the ordered phase and the paramagnetic phase is negligibly narrow or
may vanish in the thermodynamic limit. The phase transition is the second-order
transition if approached from the ordered phase, and it is of the
Kosterlitz-Thouless type if approached from the paramagnetic phase. Both
transition temperatures coincide with each other within the numerical errors.
The incommensurate phase which has been observed previously is a paramagnetic
phase with a very long correlation length (typically ). We could
resolve this phase by treating very large systems (),
which is first made possible by employing the present method.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures. To appear in Phys.Rev.
