    Reputation and status in Denmark's strategic culture

    The primary objective of the article is to evaluate the significance of status and allied reputation within Denmark's strategic culture. Amongst Danish international relations scholars, there is a well-established notion that one of the key motivations for the use of military force in Danish foreign policy was the aspiration to cultivate special relations with the United States and achieve the status of a privileged ally. This status would confirm guarantees for Denmark's national security, provide the country with an opportunity for distinctive influence in decision-making and agenda-setting in NATO, the EU, and transatlantic cooperation. A qualitative content analysis of the 2017-2018, 2019-2020 and 2022 Danish foreign policy strategies was carried out to determine the effect of such expert perceptions on the texts of the guiding foreign policy documents. The analysis highlighted and confirmed the 'super Atlanticism' tendencies in Denmark's contemporary strategic culture, revealing its close ties with the Danish perception of the US as the safeguard for the liberal world order and associated multilateral institutions. Denmark's value-driven militarised foreign political activism in the post-Cold War era is thus not only pragmatic but also ideological as it seeks to promote liberal values, democracy and human rights under American leadership. The article concludes that factoring in status and reputation in strategic culture studies may complement the explanations of security community formation, alliance strategies and the dynamics behind relations within different types of alliances

    Global generalized solutions for Maxwell-alpha and Euler-alpha equations

    We study initial-boundary value problems for the Lagrangian averaged alpha models for the equations of motion for the corotational Maxwell and inviscid fluids in 2D and 3D. We show existence of (global in time) dissipative solutions to these problems.     Cellular internalisation, bioimaging and dark and photodynamic cytotoxicity of silica nanoparticles doped by {Mo₆I₈}⁴⁺ metal clusters

    Silica nanoparticles (SNPs) doped by hexanuclear molybdenum cluster complexes [{Mo₆X₈}L₆]n (X = Cl, Br, or I; L = various inorganic or organic ligands) have been recently suggested as materials with a high potential for biomedical applications due to both the outstanding photoluminescent properties and the ability to efficiently generate singlet oxygen upon photoirradiation. However, no studies were undertaken so far to prove this concept. Therefore, here we examined the potential of photoluminescent SNPs doped by {Mo₆I₈}⁴⁺ for such applications as bioimaging and photodynamic therapy using human epidermoid larynx carcinoma (Hep-2) cell line as a model. Our results demonstrated both: (i) significant luminescence from cells with internalised molybdenum cluster doped SNPs combined with the low cytotoxicity of particles in the darkness and (ii) significant cytotoxicity of the particles upon photoirradiation. Thus, this research provides strong experimental evidence for high potential of molybdenum cluster doped materials in such biomedical applications as optical bioimaging, biolabeling and photodynamic therapy

    Impact of Atherosclerosis- and Diabetes-Related Dicarbonyls on Vascular Endothelial Permeability: A Comparative Assessment

    Background. Malondialdehyde (MDA), glyoxal (GO), and methylglyoxal (MGO) levels increase in atherosclerosis and diabetes patients. Recent reports demonstrate that GO and MGO cause vascular endothelial barrier dysfunction whereas no evidence is available for MDA. Methods. To compare the effects of MDA, GO, or MGO on endothelial permeability, we used human EA.hy926 endothelial cells as a standard model. To study cortical cytoplasm motility and cytoskeletal organization in endothelial cells, we utilized time-lapse microscopy and fluorescent microscopy. To compare dicarbonyl-modified protein band profiles in these cells, we applied Western blotting with antibodies against MDA- or MGO-labelled proteins. Results. MDA (150–250 μM) irreversibly suppressed the endothelial cell barrier, reduced lamellipodial activity, and prevented intercellular contact formation. The motile deficiency of MDA-challenged cells was accompanied by alterations in microtubule and microfilament organization. These detrimental effects were not observed after GO or MGO (250 μM) administration regardless of confirmed modification of cellular proteins by MGO. Conclusions. Our comparative study demonstrates that MDA is more damaging to the endothelial barrier than GO or MGO. Considering that MDA endogenous levels exceed those of GO or MGO and tend to increase further during lipoperoxidation, it appears important to reduce oxidative stress and, in particular, MDA levels in order to prevent sustained vascular hyperpermeability in atherosclerosis and diabetes patients

Техническим результатом полезной модели является повышение производительности процесса и качества электроэрозионного легирования поверхности деталей. Технический результат достигается за счет устройства для электроэрозионного легирования, включающего источник переменного напряжения, подключенных к нему катушку вибратора с электродом-инструментом, электрод-детали, мостовой выпрямитель, между положительным и отрицательным выходами которого подключены последовательно соединенные активное сопротивление и конденсатор, разрядный контур которого выполнен из двух изолированных проводников, один из которых подключен между положительной обкладкой конденсатора и электродом-инструментом, а второй - между отрицательной обкладкой конденсатора и электродом-детали, согласно полезной модели, разрядный контур конденсатора выполнен малоиндуктивным, а именно, в виде коаксиального кабеля

    On a coupled PDE model for image restoration

    In this paper, we consider a new coupled PDE model for image restoration. Both the image and the edge variables are incorporated by coupling them into two different PDEs. It is shown that the initial-boundary value problem has global in time dissipative solutions (in a sense going back to P.-L. Lions), and several properties of these solutions are established. This is a rough draft, and the final version of the paper will contain a modelling part and numerical experiments

    Currently, there is a marked tendency towards improvement of early detection of breast cancer that allows patients at extremely low risk for developing recurrent disease to be identified. Therefore, it is necessary to search for biological markers of unfavorable prognosis for patients with hormone-dependent breast cancer. In order to introduce these markers into routine clinical practice, they should be validated in welldesigned clinical studies, provide additional predictive information and be easily reproducible. The standard immunohistochemical parameters (estrogen and progesterone receptors and Ki67 cell proliferation index) can be served as these markers. However, the dynamic changes in these parameters during hormone therapyrather than their initial expression levels in the tumor are of great significance for the individualized hormone therapy. В современном здравоохранении прослеживается четкая тенденция в сторону улучшения ранней диагностики рака молочной железы, что позволяет выявлять пациентов с крайне низким риском рецидива заболевания, которым обоснованно можно не проводить адъювантную химиотерапию. В связи с этим возникла необходимость проведения исследований, направленных на поиск биологических маркеров неблагоприятного прогноза в группе больных гормонозависимым раком молочной железы. Для широкого внедрения в клиническую практику данные маркеры должны быть валидированы в хорошо спланированных клинических исследованиях, предоставлять дополнительную предиктивную информацию и быть легко воспроизводимыми. В качестве таких маркеров могут выступать стандартные иммуногистохимические показатели: рецепторы эстрогенов и прогестерона, индекс пролиферации Ki67. Однако для индивидуализации гормонотерапии имеет большее значение не исходный уровень их экспрессии в опухоли, а динамика изменения в процессе тестовой гормонотерапии
