Achievement of a Fortifying Product based on Apples, Quinces and Sea Buckthorn
The aim of the research was to achieve a fortifying product Apple, Quince and Sea Buckthorn Nectar rich in antioxidants (vitamin C, ÎČ-carotene) and dietary fibers (cellulose, pectic substances) from fruit. In the experiments were used fruit (apples, quinces and sea buckthorn) with a high content of these nutrients. The antioxidants are chemical substances that inhibit, decompose or prevent forming of free radicals or other substances that induce cancerogenesis. Also, dietary fibers are another group of natural compounds with an important role in the prevention of the digestive diseases. In the experiments were used biochemical methods for analysis of fruit and processed products (determination of soluble dry substance, glucides, proteins, lipids, mineral elements, total acidity, vitamin C, ÎČ-carotene, cellulose, pectic substances etc.). Also were performed microbiological analysis and sensorial analysis for processed products. In order to obtain the product Apple, Quince and Sea Buckthorn Nectar, four variants of experiments were carried out at the laboratory level. Following the sensorial and biochemical analyses, the optimum variant of the product Apple, Quince and Sea Buckthorn Nectar was selected, namely the variant V3 in which the ratio apple puree and quince puree was 1:1 and the percentage of added sea buckthorn juice was 3%
Development of a Device for Displaying on an Additional Screen the Parameters Read from the Vehicleâs on Board Computer
Present paper aims to present the steps of developing a prototype used for the display of
several functional parameters which does not normally appear on the dashboard of an automobile. Data
is collected from the vehicle CAN bus, follow-up processed with a MCP2515 microcontroller and a
ATMEGA328P and finally displayed on a color touchscreen. The prototype is a Plug&Play device,
which can easily be connected to the vehicleâs OBD2 socket, from where the data is collected. The
parameters are shown in an interactive manner, by displaying one or multiple parameters at a time, on
a single page
Omecamtiv mecarbil in chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, GALACTICâHF: baseline characteristics and comparison with contemporary clinical trials
Aims:
The safety and efficacy of the novel selective cardiac myosin activator, omecamtiv mecarbil, in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is tested in the Global Approach to Lowering Adverse Cardiac outcomes Through Improving Contractility in Heart Failure (GALACTICâHF) trial. Here we describe the baseline characteristics of participants in GALACTICâHF and how these compare with other contemporary trials.
Methods and Results:
Adults with established HFrEF, New York Heart Association functional class (NYHA)ââ„âII, EF â€35%, elevated natriuretic peptides and either current hospitalization for HF or history of hospitalization/ emergency department visit for HF within a year were randomized to either placebo or omecamtiv mecarbil (pharmacokineticâguided dosing: 25, 37.5 or 50âmg bid). 8256 patients [male (79%), nonâwhite (22%), mean age 65âyears] were enrolled with a mean EF 27%, ischemic etiology in 54%, NYHA II 53% and III/IV 47%, and median NTâproBNP 1971âpg/mL. HF therapies at baseline were among the most effectively employed in contemporary HF trials. GALACTICâHF randomized patients representative of recent HF registries and trials with substantial numbers of patients also having characteristics understudied in previous trials including more from North America (n = 1386), enrolled as inpatients (n = 2084), systolic blood pressureâ<â100âmmHg (n = 1127), estimated glomerular filtration rate <â30âmL/min/1.73 m2 (n = 528), and treated with sacubitrilâvalsartan at baseline (n = 1594).
Conclusions:
GALACTICâHF enrolled a wellâtreated, highârisk population from both inpatient and outpatient settings, which will provide a definitive evaluation of the efficacy and safety of this novel therapy, as well as informing its potential future implementation
More and more social workers operate as mediators. This growing interest for conflict prevention and resolution is confirmed by the wide range of courses offered by the Ordre des Travailleurs Sociaux du QuĂ©bec pertaining to this subject. However, there is a lack of studies that relate to the obstacles those professionals may encounter through their interventions as mediators. This essay aims to describe possible biases that may occur in such situations. The concept of empowerment will serve as a common link between mediation and social work, since it is a popular subject for authors in both fields. This common notion has been analyzed from a conceptual standpoint in the context of mediation and social work. Empowerment was thus considered through multiple factors, from which similarities and divergences could be discerned. The conclusions reached from individual sub-themes developed through the essay enabled us to provide a partial answer to the central question, while initiating a reflection on biases that are prone to affect social workers practicing transformative or evaluative mediation
