    Trading Determinism for Time in Space Bounded Computations

    Savitch showed in 19701970 that nondeterministic logspace (NL) is contained in deterministic O(log2n)\mathcal{O}(\log^2 n) space but his algorithm requires quasipolynomial time. The question whether we can have a deterministic algorithm for every problem in NL that requires polylogarithmic space and simultaneously runs in polynomial time was left open. In this paper we give a partial solution to this problem and show that for every language in NL there exists an unambiguous nondeterministic algorithm that requires O(log2n)\mathcal{O}(\log^2 n) space and simultaneously runs in polynomial time.Comment: Accepted in MFCS 201

    Classical solutions for Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons field coupled to an external source

    We find wide class of exact solutions of Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons theory coupled to an external source, in terms of doubly periodic Jacobi elliptic functions. The obtained solutions include localized solitons, trigonometric solutions, pure cnoidal waves, and singular solutions in certain parameter range. Furthermore, it is observed that these solutions exist over a nonzero background.Comment: 5 page

    Bulk and surface transitions in asymmetric simple exclusion process: Impact on boundary layers

    In this paper, we study boundary-induced phase transitions in a particle non-conserving asymmetric simple exclusion process with open boundaries. Using boundary layer analysis, we show that the key signatures of various bulk phase transitions are present in the boundary layers of the density profiles. In addition, we also find possibilities of surface transitions in the low- and high- density phases. The surface transition in the low-density phase provides a more complete description of the non-equilibrium critical point found in this system.Comment: 9 pages including figure

    The Positive Impact of Inter-Organizational Networking in Innovation in Biotechnology Industry: Comparative Case Analysis of Biotech Network One Nucleus

    To further substantiate the role of inter-organizational networking in innovation, we explored the positive impact of large networks on innovation in the biotechnology industry. The research was conducted in two parts. In the first part, a qualitative research methodology using exploratory case study is performed on the three SME members of the UK-based biotech network One Nucleus. In the second part, a quantitative research approach using comparative empirical OECD data analysis is performed. The two research methodologies used are subsequently linked together thorough a unique research approach known as processual research. A new insight is explored regarding issues linked to inter-organizational networking, like the role of networks on organizational learning, the role of third party organizations within networks, diversity of partners and the nature of learning (localized vs. global) within biotech networks. The primary data is generated on the number of alliances, types of alliances and types of innovation, whereas innovation is measured as a dependent variable. Empirical results obtained clearly indicate that innovation output (patent approval rate, patent success rate) with respect to each alliance made by the sample firms is positively impacted by the parent biotech network One Nucleus
