Gamification in project management: experiences from business and training

Cada vez se aplican más conceptos de gamificación o ludificación en los más diversos ámbitos desde la salud, la enseñanza, el mundo empresarial, etc. En la misma forma, se pueden aplicar estrategias de gamificación para la Gestión de Proyectos. Este documento refleja la experiencia de aplicar distintos conceptos de gamificación en la práctica como la aplicación de lego serious play en las distintas etapas de la gestión de un proyecto: iniciación, planificación, ejecución y cierre de un proyecto en una empresa de ingeniería. Igualmente se muestra experiencias de aplicación de juegos de tablero en cursos de Gestión de Proyectos.More and more concepts of gamification or ludification are applied in the most diverse areas from health, education, the business world, etc. In the same way, gamification strategies can be applied for Project Management. This document reflects the experience of applying different concepts of gamification in practice such as the application of lego serious play in the different stages of project management: initiation, planning, execution and closing of a project in an engineering company. It also shows experiences of application of board games in courses of Project Management

Gestión de la programación ganada como complemento a la gestión del valor ganado

Earned Value Management is a well-known technique within project management, which allows to control and forecast the project based on your budget and its degree of execution. However, the behavior of this tool has a more significant significance from 20% of the project's progress. Many of their indicators are calculated in terms of cost and have been shown to perform poorly in the final stages of the project, showing a correct behavior when the project is delayed. Earned Schedule Management is an "evolution" of Earned Value Management that solves this deficiency.La Gestión del Valor Ganado es una técnica ampliamente conocida dentro de la gestión de proyectos, que permite controlar y pronosticar el proyecto a partir de su presupuesto y su grado de ejecución. Sin embargo, el comportamiento de esta herramienta tiene una significancia más considerable a partir del 20% de avance del proyecto. Muchos de sus indicadores se calculan en términos de coste y se ha demostrado que se desempeñan mal en las etapas finales del proyecto, mostrando un comportamiento correcto, cuando el proyecto está retrasado. Roughness evolution of previously milled samples along a polishing test

In the present work results about roughness evolution along a polishing operation with corundum disks of size Norton 400 are presented. Hardened steel and hardened stainless steel samples were previously subjected to ball-end milling or side milling with cylindrical tool at different cutting conditions. Roughness height parameters Ra and Rt, as well as parameters related to the Abbott-Firestone curve such as Rk, Rpk, and Rvk, and shape parameters such as Rsk and Rku were studied. It is usually considered that a polishing operation is complete when Ra does not decrease significantly with more polishing time. In the present paper, an alternative method for determining the end of a polishing test is presented. Roughness is measured both in the longitudinal and in the transversal direction with respect to cutting marks, and it is assumed that the polishing operation is finished when longitudinal values equal transversal values, provided that from that moment on roughness values do not decrease significantly. Moreover, it is recommended to measure parameter Rvk in addition to or even instead of Ra, in order to obtain information about the presence of valleys from the previous milling operation.Postprint (author's final draft

Evaluación de la motivación en equipos de proyectos

People carry out the projects and the performance of the human team is a key success factor. This communication reflects the results of measuring satisfaction in different project teams, applying the theory of expectations. The study focuses on a questionnaire based on the theory developed by the psychologist Vroom. Different aspects of motivation are analysed, grouped into three main blocks: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and transcendent motivation. In each of them, the valence and expectation that members have is evaluated. The results obtained are considered for each group analyzed.Los proyectos los realizan personas y el desempeño del equipo humano es un factor clave de éxito. Esta comunicación refleja los resultados de medir la satisfacción en distintos equipos de proyectos, aplicando la teoría de las expectativas. El estudio se centra en un cuestionario basado en la teoría desarrollada por el psicólogo Vroom. Se analiza distintos aspectos de la motivación, agrupados en tres grandes bloques: motivación intrínseca, motivación extrínseca y motivación trascendente. En cada uno de ellos se evalúa la valencia y la expectativa que los miembros tienen. Los resultados obtenidos se consideran para cada grupo analizado

Do project managers use indicators for measure performance in their projects?

Gran número de autores reconocen que el uso de indicadores de rendimiento de los proyectos es un factor clave de éxito en los mismos, que además permite obtener retroalimentación y adelantar comportamientos futuros. En esta línea, hemos realizado un estudio exploratorio en una muestra no probabilística de expertos y profesionales de gestión de proyectos para conocer el grado de uso de esta herramienta. Se han obtenido 798 respuestas procedentes de distintos países y sectores, que señala un uso mayoritario de dicha herramienta, pero con ciertos matices como la regularidad en su uso, qué tipo de indicadores son los más usados o como los relacionados con el análisis del valor ganado no tienen un uso tan frecuente como podría esperar.Many authors acknowledge that use of project performance indicators is a key factor for its success, and allows to get a feedback and brings forward future behaviors. In this sense, we performed an exploratory survey in a non-probabilistic sample of project management experts and professionals to know the degree of use of this tool. 798 responses were obtained from different countries and sectors, which indicates a majority use of metrics, but with certain nuances such as the regularity in its use, what type of indicators are the most used or those related to earned value analysis that do not have as frequent use as we might expect

Implementation of performance indicators for project control

Muchos estudios consideran que la medición del rendimiento de un proyecto es un factor crítico del éxito del mismo. Utilizando un "cuadro base" de indicadores se desarrolla una metodología para implementarlo en cualquier tipo de proyecto. Se ha aplicado la sistemática a distintos tipos de proyectos validando los indicadores de rendimiento de la gestión de proyectos, su caracterización e identificando indicadores propios del proyecto.Many studies consider that measuring a project's performance is a critical factor in its success. MindBigData 2023 MNIST-8B The 8 billion datapoints Multimodal Dataset of Brain Signals

MindBigData 2023 MNIST-8B is the largest, to date (June 1st 2023), brain signals open dataset created for Machine Learning, based on EEG signals from a single subject captured using a custom 128 channels device, replicating the full 70,000 digits from Yaan LeCun et all MNIST dataset. The brain signals were captured while the subject was watching the pixels of the original digits one by one on a screen and listening at the same time to the spoken number 0 to 9 from the real label.
