Quasiparticle entropy in superconductor/normal metal/superconductor proximity junctions in the diffusive limit
We discuss the quasiparticle entropy and heat capacity of a dirty
superconductor-normal metal-superconductor junction. In the case of short
junctions, the inverse proximity effect extending in the superconducting banks
plays a crucial role in determining the thermodynamic quantities. In this case,
commonly used approximations can violate thermodynamic relations between
supercurrent and quasiparticle entropy. We provide analytical and numerical
results as a function of different geometrical parameters. Quantitative
estimates for the heat capacity can be relevant for the design of caloritronic
devices or radiation sensor applications.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
FAIRE-seq data analysis of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii under carbon deprivation
For the genome-wide identification of nucleosome depleted regions under carbon deprivation, we analyze an available set of data from an assay of formaldehyde-assisted isolation of regulatory elements followed by sequencing (FAIRE-seq). Mapping to the sequenced nuclear genome of C.reinhardtii, followed by the identification of the enrichment-sequenced fragments was performed. We examined the location of these fragments relative to annotated genes. The related genes were associated to the corresponding Gene-Ontology (GO), for an evaluation of over-representate GO categories. Some genes, link with functions or locations, that have been previous described, indicating the success of the method finding carbon-metabolism related fragments
Total orthotopic small bowel transplantation in swine under FK 506
Previous experimental studies in rodents and in dogs have established the efficacy of FK 506 in controlling the immunologic events following small bowel or multivisceral transplantation.1–5 To complete the assessment of FK 506 in experimental small bowel transplantation, we present here our experience with the frequently used swine model
Chapter Employability and Transitions towards Work: MSc Degree Programme in Educational Planning and Human Resource Development, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Brescia
The acceleration of changes underlines the need to enhance our efforts to adapt education to the dynamics of the current economic situation and the issue of employment. In the framework of the circular economy, pedagogy, which is based on the educability of individuals, takes into consideration forms of educational planning to identify a long-lasting balance between economic prosperity, social wellness, and environmental development. The challenge of the future is the possibility of increasing youth employment; this calls for pedagogical expertise and organizational planning to ensure that everyone’s development is authentic and holistic. To this end, the MSc Degree programme in Educational Planning and Human Resource Development offered by the Catholic University trains graduates to become professional figures with expertise in coordinating and managing the development of human resources (guidance, selection, personal services); the professional training and retraining of project managers in social and educational contexts for both academic and corporate spheres. The guiding vision behind the MSc in Educational Planning and Human Resource Development is fully in line with the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart’s educational project, to support a culture of responsibility and creativity, entrepreneurism and collaboration, multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills, and scientific research for the purpose of holistic human development. Educational planning, in a period of socio-economic and social change, involving the whole planet in many respects, can relaunch an ‘integral model of development’, based on long-term wellbeing, technological innovation, ‘human development’, and the dignity of wor
Agenda 2030, giovani e Alta Formazione. Tra responsabilità pedagogica e ricerca educativa
Over the years, awareness of environmental issues has placed the theme ofsustainability at center of the international debate. Pedagogy is called toelaborate hermeneutical perspectives and project contributions to conduceto lasting, inclusive and supportive development. This article considers the United Nations Agenda 2030 as a commitment onthe part of the countries involved to tackle some phenomena such as inequalitiesand respect for the environment that are not unrelated to the discourseon education. Interpreting the 2030 Agenda according to a pedagogicalperspective means improving the educational action as a lever for socialcohesion and sustainability, in the perspective of intergenerational responsibility.Higher Education, in alliance with the territory, can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development objectives through sustainable training programs and research projects to the benefit of the territory and young people.
Every type of business could become contexts of self-empowerment and “care for all”, if it is aimed by responsible, sustainable and inclusive governance. The role of the pedagogist is emblematic, as human resource manager, to promote potential and to plan professional development paths that aid for self-improvement, between organizational well-being, economic dynamism, social and environmental impact, in line with vision and mission
Preliminary technical and economic analysis of a hyperloop line: case study from Italy
The future of mobility and transportation infrastructures has been heavily questioned during the last years. Today we are looking at how the mobility of people and goods will evolve in the coming years. With reference to this topic, Hyperloop has been at the core of the debate. Scientists and engineers believe that this technology is a great opportunity for the modern society. Nonetheless, it still presents several unsolved issues. The purpose of this work is to propose a methodology to perform technical and economic pre- feasibility studies related to the hyperloop system, with specific focus on transport demand analysis, transport sizing of the infrastructure and cost analysis of CAPEX - CAPital EXpenditure and OPEX - OPerating EXpense. For the evaluation of the potential demand, the paper refers to the Multinomial Logit model, calibrated through SP – Stated Preferences surveys. Once the Logit model has been calibrated, it is possible to envisage different scenarios, such as maximum transport demand or maximum revenue, which will be used for the subsequent design of the transport system. As far as the sizing is concerned, some technical parameters of the project are required, such as: length of the route, maximum speed, and acceleration. The combination of the scenarios defined through the calibration of the Logit model and the project parameters, allows to define several scenarios representing the potential performances of the analyzed system. Given the possible performances of the transport service, an analysis of costs and potential revenues that determines the most efficient solution can be carried out. In addition, parametric values per km can be used to define CAPEX and OPEX. The methodology illustrated above, has been applied to a case study in Italy of the Rome-Milan OD (Origin – Destination), as it is one of the national routes with the highest volume of traffic and the largest number of modal choices
Responsabilità tra impresa ed ecologia integrale
The article considers the issue of socio environmental responsibility as a challenge for integral human development. A global governance requires a shared culture of sustainability in the perspective of sober lifestyles and aware choices. Business organizations have to become generative and they have to promote transformative processes to oppose iniquity and inequality. They canimprove the quality of human life and create new professionalisms and long-term production methods. Interpreting corporate social responsibility according to a pedagogical perspective means enhancing educational action as an incentive for social cohesion and the development of intergenerational responsibility. Sustainability, between semantic ambiguities and human ecology is an economic, social and environmental regulatory process. Everything is connected:lifestyles, management of human resources, policies to generate free, creative, supportive and participative enterprises.L’articolo considera il tema della responsabilità socio-ambientale quale sfida per lo sviluppo umano integrale.
