Among all non conventional micro machining, electrochemical discharge machining ECDM is having high quality of material removal rate with zero residual stress. This machining has been accepted as a highly modern technology in micromachining. In this paper an effort has been done on micro drilling of glass using electrochemical discharge machining ECDM . A fixed tool and a step down transformer have been used to support the steady machining to increase the accuracy of work piece. The input parameters used in this experiment are voltage, concentration of electrolyte, enter electrode gap and ratio of area of electrode. MRR has been investigated over the input parameters. Feed rate and electrolyte temperature has been made constant of 3µm sec and 30°c respectively. Taguchi method is used to optimize the effect of the process parameters on MRR. The signal to noise S N ratio and the ANOVA analysis are employed to find the contributions of input parameters. A definite treatment modality for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has still not come into picture. With the rise of COVID-19 pandemic, a few drugs have come into light as empirical treatment for this infection. This review focusses on existing approaches to the treat COVID-19 patients with antimalarial drugs and antibiotics analyzing the adverse reactions and interactions of concomitantly administering these drugs. We will also discuss the possibilities of alternate methods to treat this disease

A Polynomial Time, Pure Differentially Private Estimator for Binary Product Distributions

We present the first ε\varepsilon-differentially private, computationally efficient algorithm that estimates the means of product distributions over {0,1}d\{0,1\}^d accurately in total-variation distance, whilst attaining the optimal sample complexity to within polylogarithmic factors. The prior work had either solved this problem efficiently and optimally under weaker notions of privacy, or had solved it optimally while having exponential running times

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2007.Includes bibliographical references (p. 173-180).Accurate calibration of demand and supply simulators within a Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) system is critical for the provision of consistent travel information and efficient traffic management. Emerging traffic surveillance devices such as Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technology provide a rich source of disaggregate traffic data. This thesis presents a methodology for calibration of demand and supply model parameters using travel time measurements obtained from these emerging traffic sensing technologies. The calibration problem has been formulated in two different frameworks, viz. in a state-space framework and in a stochastic optimization framework. Three different algorithms are used for solving the calibration problem, a gradient approximation based path search method (SPSA), a random search meta-heuristic (GA) and a Monte-Carlo simulation based technique (Particle Filter). The methodology is first tested using a small synthetic study network to illustrate its effectiveness. Later the methodology is applied to a real traffic network in the Lower Westchester County region in New York to demonstrate its scalability.(cont.) The estimation results are tested using a calibrated Microscopic Traffic Simulator (MITSIMLab). The results are compared to the base case of calibration using only the conventional point sensor data. The results indicate that the utilization of AVI data significantly improves the calibration accuracy.by Vikrant Vaze.S.M

Ecological systems in space: From islands to contiguous landscapes

Dispersal and interaction networks underlie many ecological systems, often dictating spatio-temporal dynamics as well as emergent patterns. Dispersal has implications for establishment for distinct subpopulations of individual species as well as for the emergence of universal spatial patterns and varied community level structures. Such implications and the search for mechanisms that drive them are the central themes of this thesis. The accompanying manuscripts discuss two very different approaches of analysing ecological systems. The less complex of the two systems consists of sites along a coastal landscape that harbours the seagrass Halodule uninervis. The task is to partition the entire population into subpopulations that have very little dispersal across them. We use an algorithm to aggregates sites that are more strongly connected in the same subpopulation for a range of dispersal scenarios. These scenarios are useful since the dispersal processes and life-spans of the seagrass are not well-understood. In subsequent work, the idea of complexity is more precise. We analyse ecosystems whose complexity is captured by the strength of interactions between species and the fraction of interaction links realized out of all possible ones. On one hand we study how ecological communities on islands are assembled from a large pool of species that can also immigrate from the mainland source, and if it can provide mechanisms to explain the scaling of species richness with island areas – namely the species-area relationship. A drastically different setting is large contiguous landscapes. We posit that species interactions vary across space, which helps characterize habitat patches that would be connected by high dispersal of species. This simplified picture provides a range of situations to understand how habitat heterogeneity affects species richness. An overarching theme in investigating these complex ecological systems is to first analyze the fully random case without assuming any structure. This null case admits description in terms of a few statistics that greatly simplify the study of system level properties and processes. One can then ask if there are parameter regimes where these properties break down. The difficulty in finding such regimes might indicate universal properties but even the sudden disappearance might unravel phase transitions or unexplored new properties

    Design considerations for engineering AUVs

Thesis (S.M.)--Joint Program in Applied Ocean Science and Engineering (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering; and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution), 2007.Includes bibliographical references (p. 85-89).Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) have been established as a viable tool for Oceanographic Sciences. Being untethered and independent, AUVs fill the gap in Ocean Exploration left by the existing manned submersible and remotely operated vehicles (ROV) technology. AUVs are attractive as cheaper and efficient alternatives to the older technologies and are breaking new ground in many applications. Designing an autonomous vehicle to work in the harsh environment of the deep ocean comes with its set of challenges. This paper discusses how the current engineering technologies can be adapted to the design of AUVs. Recently, as the AUV technology has matured, we see AUVs being used in a variety of applications ranging from sub-surface sensing to sea-floor mapping. The design of the AUV, with its tight constraints, is very sensitive to the target application. Keeping this in mind, the goal of this thesis is to understand how some of the major issues affect the design of the AUV. This paper also addresses the mechanical and materials issues, power system design, computer architecture, navigation and communication systems, sensor considerations and long term docking aspects that affect AUV design. With time, as the engineering sciences progress, the AUV design will have to change in order to optimize its performance. Thus, the fundamental issues discussed in this paper can assist in meeting the challenge of maintaining AUV design on par with modern technology.by Vikrant P. Shah.S.M
