    Micropropagation And Antimicrobial Activity Of Callicarpa Macrophylla (Priyangu) Against Medically Important Pathogens

    Callicarpa macrophylla (Priyangu) a medicinally important plant, represents a class of herbal drug with very strong conceptual and traditional base. In present study extract of leaf, stem showed less antimicrobial activity than seed. They showed antimicrobial activity against three bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas and three fungal Strains Aspergillus fumigatous, Rhizopus oryzae and Aspergillus awamori. Maximum activity was observed in ethanol extract of leaf and stem, Methanol extracts of seed. Phytochemical analysis of the plant extract revealed the presence of phenol, reducing sugar, coumarin and saponins.  Micropropogation of C.macrophylla was done using stem as a explant material on MS and Woody media. Which revealed that woody media containing BAP (6-amino benzyl purine) NAA(α-napthaleneacetic acid) gave maximum proliferation  response in comparison to MS media. Plant extract (leave, stem and seed) have provide protection against RBC haemolysis and protein denaturation may act as anti-arthritic agent. We propose antiarthritic and antimicrobial activity of C.macrophylla

    In vitro rapid and mass multiplication of highly valuable medicinal plant Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst.

    A protocol has been developed for micropropagation of Bacopa monnieri (L) Wettst, a medicinal plant of high commercial potential with legendary reputation as a memory vitalizer. Nodal segments containing axillary buds were surface sterilized with 0.1% solution of mercuric chloride for 5 min and were inoculated aseptically on culture medium, axillary bud break was achieved in 100% of cultures in semisolid MS medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l BAP. These proliferated in vitro axillary shoots were excised and cut into groups of shoot clusters and subcultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l BAP for shoot multiplication. 100% in vitro rooting was obtained when shoot clusters were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.15 mg/l IBA. The rooted plantlets were hardened, acclimatized and successfully established in field.Key words: Bacopa monnieri, nodal segments, micropropagation, plant growth regulators

    Herbal nutraceutical products have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly in the dermatology and cosmetics fields, because of their potential to prevent skin photodamage and their photoprotective qualities against UV radiation. Standardized herbal extracts are necessary for modern phytopharmaceutics and phytocosmetics, and buckwheat herb, which is high in flavonoids, has shown promise as an antioxidant source. The objective of the research is to ascertain the existence of various nutraceutical components in buckwheat, such as proteins, carbohydrates, sterols, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The study assesses possible interactions between these components, food, and prescribed medications as the body of research on their health benefits grows. Through a variety of phytochemical tests, the results show the high antioxidant and nutraceutical qualities of Fagopyrum esculentum, with methanolic extracts showing greater activity than water extracts. Notably, the study highlights the high antioxidant activity, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic compounds of F. esculentum as potential major food supplement. This study offers a biochemical justification for its application in ethnopharmacology and as a nutraceutical to improve health and prevent a variety of ailment

    Preparation and evaluation of mouth dissolving tablets of meloxicam

    The aim of the present study was to develop evaluate mouth dissolving tablet of meloxicam. Drug delivery systems became sophisticated as pharmaceutical scientists acquire a better understanding of the physicochemical and biochemical parameters pertinent to their performance. Over the past three decades, mouth dissolving or orally disintegrating tablets have gained considerable attention as a preferred alternative to conventional tablets due to better patient compliance. The most preferrable route of drug administration (e.g. oral) is limited to drug candidate that show poor permeability across the gastric mucosa and those, which are sparingly soluble. A large majority of the new chemical entities and many new existing drug molecules are poorly soluble, thereby limiting their potential uses and increasing the difficulty of formulating bioavailable drug products,so lastlly the purpose of this study was to grow mouth dissolve tablets of Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a newer selective COX-1 inhibitor. These tablets were prepared by wet granulation procedure. The tablets were evaluated for % friability, wetting time and disintegration time. Sublimation of camphor from tablets resulted in better tablets as compared to the tablets prepared from granules that were exposing to vacuum. The systematic formulation approach helped in understanding the effect of formulation processing variables.Keywords: Mouth dissolving tablet; Maloxicam; Bioavailability; NSAI

    Assessment of Genetic Fidelity of in vitro Raised Plants in Swertia chirayita through ISSR, RAPD analysis and Peroxidase Profiling during Organogenesis

    ABSTRACT An efficient in vitro regeneration protocol for medicinally important herb Swertia chirayita was developed and the genetic fidelity was assessed using RAPD and ISSR markers. The best shoot regeneration was observed on MS basal supplemented with 1.0 mg/L Benzyl amino purine (BAP) in combination with Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) (0.5 mg/L) that resulted in the increase by multiplication rate (7.65) with an average of 33.33 numbers of shoots and average shoot length of 2.70 cm. It was further enhanced by the addition of adenine sulfate (0.007%) that resulted in an average of 42 shoots per clum with 4.13 cm of average shoot length and the increase in multiplication fold to 9.75 that further resulted in the reduced use of other cytokinins and auxins. The rooting was nearly 100 % on 1/4 MS augmented with 1.0 mg/L Indole butyric acid with maximum average root length of 5.1cm. Plantlets were successfully acclimatized with 85-90 % survival rate. Ascorbate peroxidase activity increased with the maximum activity during the shoot multiplication. Clonal fidelity has been checked by two marker systems ISSR and RAPD and regenerated plants showed high clonal fidelity

    504-507Antimicrobial activity of extracts of aerial parts of the plant samples of Aconitum heterophyllum Wall. ex Royle was evaluated against different bacterial and fungal strains. It was observed that methanolic extract (50 mg/well) was the most potent extract which showed significant inhibition of the growth of Gram positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. Antifungal activity was shown by two extracts against Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus. Methanolic extract showed considerable antifungal activity while feeble antifungal activity was obtained with ethyl acetate extract even at higher concentrations. </span
