    Why my photos look sideways or upside down? Detecting Canonical Orientation of Images using Convolutional Neural Networks

    Image orientation detection requires high-level scene understanding. Humans use object recognition and contextual scene information to correctly orient images. In literature, the problem of image orientation detection is mostly confronted by using low-level vision features, while some approaches incorporate few easily detectable semantic cues to gain minor improvements. The vast amount of semantic content in images makes orientation detection challenging, and therefore there is a large semantic gap between existing methods and human behavior. Also, existing methods in literature report highly discrepant detection rates, which is mainly due to large differences in datasets and limited variety of test images used for evaluation. In this work, for the first time, we leverage the power of deep learning and adapt pre-trained convolutional neural networks using largest training dataset to-date for the image orientation detection task. An extensive evaluation of our model on different public datasets shows that it remarkably generalizes to correctly orient a large set of unconstrained images; it also significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art and achieves accuracy very close to that of humans

    Study of Some Medicinally Useful Climbers and Creepers at Abheda Biological Park, Kota, Rajasthan

    The research paper represents the results of first study on diversity of medicinally useful lianas at abheda biological park situated at district Kota –Rajasthan. The study was conducted with the aim to explore lianas (climber, creepers, and vine) species which are directly used for medicinal purposes to prepare a checklist of our medicinally important wild plant resources found at the study area. In this paper total fourteen species belonging from Cucurbitaceae, Vitaceae, Fabaceae, Convolvulaceae, Sapindaceae Manispermaceae, Passifloraceae and Apocynaceae families are mentioned and investigated for their direct uses and a list is prepared. The study was carried out to add on knowledge to wild plant resources and local medicinally useful plants which are generally avoided due to lack of knowledge about their use or most often lack of knowledge about their presence. Labelled images with most of distinctive features are also attached to facilitate the identification of species. Diverse composition of plant species is also showing about the potential of wild resources of study area

    Algae, not only one of the most significant organism of the planet, but also acclaimed as major photosynthetic autotrophs and responsibly contributing in sustainability of the planet by their unique yet significant ecological interactions. Along with production of biofuel and biomass, metabolic products of different species of algae are most commonly cultivated and used for pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, phytoremediation, wastewater treatment, antibiotics, dyes, food industry and so on. Apart from that, some members serve as bio indicator, provides specific information about the habitats they inhabit in, and thus serves as an effective tool for bio monitoring, and also helps in efficient management of the aquatic ecosystem. This study looks into the value of some naturally occurring chlorophycean and cyanophycean members which are intentionally cultivated and utilized at several parts of the world. For this study, samples were collected and identified for the presence of cultivable species of chlorophyceae and cyanophyceae, their known applications and commercial status so that further need of study for highest possibilities could be estimate in the field of algal cultivation for future prospective for aquatic algal habitats of Kota, Rajasthan

    Harmonic scalpel versus titanium clips and l-hook in the ligation of cystic duct and artery and gall bladder dissection in laparoscopic cholecystectomy

    Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a gold standard for gall bladder stone surgery. The Aim and objective of study was to compare the total duration of surgery, intraoperative complication like bile leak from cystic duct stump, spillage of bile from gallbladder and post op pain and abdomen distension and jaundice.Methods: Study was carried out in dept. of gen Surgery, Govt medical college Kota in yr. 2015-16 in a total of 50 patients with cholelithiasis with cholecystitis. Patient were equally divided randomly into two groups (a) Harmonic scalpel group and (b) Titanium Clip and L hook group. All patients with medical comorbidities, Concomitant CBD calculi, cirrhosis and portal HT were excluded from study. Intraoperatively adhesions, bile spillage from GB and cystic duct stump noted Postoperatively complain like pain abdomen, Jaundice, and fever were noted. Duration of hospital stay was observed. All results were statistically analyzed using Chi square and ANOVA test.Results: Both groups were comparable on the basis of age and sex distribution, as no statistically difference was noted (P value 0.867 and 0.999 respectively). Intraoperative findings were adhesions 5 in clip group and 7 in harmonic group. Spillage from gall bladder was 2 in Clip group and 3 in harmonic group. Mean duration of surgery was 65.20 min in clip group and 63.68 in harmonic group with no statistically significant difference in both the group (P Value 0.727). Average duration of hospital stay was similar in both the groups with a mean of 2.6 days. Postoperative complication was fever, abdomen pain and distension were 3,1,1 were respectively in the clip group and 3,2,2 respectively in harmonic group with the P value of 0.999 which was statistically insignificant. No CBD injury was noted in any case. Conversion to open cholecystectomy was not done in any case. On 1week and 1 month follow up 2 cases in clip group and 1 in HS group had collection in gall bladder fossa and none at I month.Conclusions: Harmonic scalpel offers an effective, alternative and safe method to cystic duct division and Gallbladder dissection from liver bed

    Embedment Effect on Foundations under Vertical Vibrations

    The dynamic response of the embedded foundation subjected to vertical dynamic loads has been studied through carefully conducted field tests. The block was excited in vertical and coupled modes of vibrations. Four excitation levels were used. Tests, with different embedment depths were carried out. The foundation block was instrumented to monitor dynamic contact pressure at various embedments with specially designed contact pressure cells. Side shear resistances were measured through dynamic shear resistance cells specially designed for the purpose. Also, frequency amplitude characteristics were observed during each test .The analysis of data indicates that as the depth of embedment increases, damping factor, stiffness and in-phase soil mass increase. Dynamic pressure distributions exhibit marked changes with embedment depth. The dynamic shear resistances developed on the vertical side surfaces, vary non-linearly

    Bilateral simultaneous neck femur fracture following domestic fall in an elderly patient: a rare case report

    AbstractSimultaneous bilateral neck femur fracture is a rare entity that has been associated with underlying bone disease, various metabolic diseases, high-energy trauma, and seizure disorders. Its occurrence following minimal trauma is very rare. This article presents the case of a 66-year-old female who sustained bilateral intracapsular fracture neck femur following a slip and fall at home. Single-stage bilateral cemented total hip replacement was done using a direct lateral approach with alternate right and left lateral positions. The authors report a satisfactory outcome, with Harris hip score of 98 at one year, which persisted until her last follow-up at 30 months

    Rapid symptom control in neuroleptic malignant syndrome with electroconvulsive therapy: A case report

    Introduction: Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), thought to arise through dopamine antagonism, is life-threatening. While prompt diagnosis of NMS is critical, it may be obscured by other diagnoses, such as malignant catatonia, with overlapping, life-threatening symptoms. Initiation of dopamine-blocking agents such as antipsychotics and abrupt cessation of dopaminergic medications such as amantadine can precipitate NMS. Once NMS is suspected, deft medical management should ensue. Multiple case reports detail electroconvulsive therapy's (ECT's) effectiveness in the treatment of NMS. While this relationship is well-documented, there is less literature regarding comparative efficacy of ECT in the acute treatment of NMS-like states precipitated by withdrawal of dopamine agonists, such as amantadine. Case: We present a 52-year-old female with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, with a history of a lorazepam-resistant catatonic episode the prior year that had responded to amantadine. She presented febrile with altered mental status, lead pipe rigidity, mutism, grasp reflex, stereotypy, autonomic instability, and a Bush-Francis Catatonia Rating Scale (BFCRS) of 24, suggesting malignant catatonia versus NMS. There was concern over a potentially abrupt cessation of her amantadine of which she had been prescribed for the past year. Interventions: Organic etiologies were ruled out, and a presumptive diagnosis of NMS was made with central dopaminergic depletion from abrupt dopamine agonist (amantadine) withdrawal as the suspected underlying etiology. After intravenous lorazepam and reinduction of amantadine failed to alleviate her symptoms, urgent ECT was initiated. Our patient received an index series of ECT of seven treatments. After ECT #1 she was no longer obtunded, after treatment #2 her symptoms of mutism, rigidity, stereotypy, and agitation showed improvement, and by ECT #3, the NMS had rapidly dissipated as evidenced by stable vital signs, lack of rigidity, and coherent conversation. Conclusion: Brisk identification of potentially life-threatening NMS and NMS-like states, including malignant catatonia, warrants a trial of ECT. ECT's theoretical mechanisms of action coincide with the theoretical pathophysiology of the conditions. It is a viable and safe treatment option for reducing mortality.
