Connexin-Based Channels and RhoA/ROCK Pathway in Angiotensin II-Induced Kidney Damage

The incidence of chronic kidney diseases is increasing worldwide, and there is no efficient therapy to reduce this phenomenon. The main therapies currently available focus on the control of blood pressure and the optimization of the blockade of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). In addition, it is known that in several models of kidney damage, the amounts of connexins are altered. On the other hand, fasudil, a selective ROCK blocker, has shown renoprotective effects. The beneficial effects of blocking the RhoA/ROCK pathway in renal function may be related to its action of reducing macrophage infiltration, inflammation, and oxidative stress (OS), its expression of extracellular matrix genes and proteinuria, or to its effects on connexin abundance. Even though a correlation has been found between renal damage, caused by an increase in the RAS activity, connexins, and the RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway, it has not yet been possible to clearly determine its functional significance. Moreover, it has not been possible to identify the preponderance of this signaling pathway in the development of chronic kidney diseases. Here, we describe the advances in this subject

Infective endocarditis is a serious disease associated with high mortality despite recent advances in diagnosis and treatment. Aggregatibacter aphrophilus is a fastidious Gram-negative member of the HACEK organisms (Haemophilus spp., Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Cardiobacterium hominis, Eikenella corrodens, and Kingella kingae). A. aphrophilus is associated with dental infections but has also been implicated in cases of infective endocarditis. We highlight the importance of a high index of suspicion in symptomatic patients with an initial negative blood culture, particularly in high-risk groups such as patients with congenital valve disease and prosthetic valve. The knowledge of this rare entity may lead to early diagnosis and appropriate management. We review the main characteristics of Aggregatibacter aphrophilus endocarditis reported in the medical literature.La endocarditis infecciosa es una enfermedad grave que está asociada con una alta mortalidad a pesar de los avances recientes en el diagnóstico y tratamiento. Candida endocarditis is a severe disease associated with high mortality rates. Candida parapsilosis is frequently identified as the causative pathogen in intravenous drug users and is commonly associated with nosocomial infections, primarily due to its ability to form biofilms on catheters or other foreign bodies. Here, we present a rare case of Candida parapsilosis endocarditis affecting the native tricuspid valve in a 35-year-old male patient with end-stage chronic kidney disease (Stage V), who had a suspected fungal infection related to the left cervical catheter. The patient received treatment with caspofungin and underwent excision of a verrucous tumor on the tricuspid valve. Despite encountering postoperative complications, the patient was discharged on fluconazole treatment and scheduled for follow-up. Candida endocarditis poses a clinical challenge that necessitates a multidisciplinary approach and tailored management due to its infrequent occurrence and higher mortality rate compared to bacterial endocarditis.Candida endocarditis is a severe disease associated with high mortality rates. These results show that obesity and a poor glycemic control increase the endothelial dysfunction in type 2 diabetes patients.Fil: Velarde, María Susana. Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. "Amaranth has been claimed as functional food, but its function on obesity-related disorder is not fully known. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of amaranth protein intake on blood lipids profile and insulin resistance in diet-induced obese mice. The effect of soybean protein was also analysed for comparative purposes. C57BL-6 mice were fed for eight weeks with regular or high fat diet. Amaranth or soybean protein isolates (10 mg/kg) were supplied via oral administration. Changes in body weight, adipose tissue, total cholesterol, triglycerides, insulin, a glucose tolerance test, as well as the expression of lipid metabolism-related genes were measured. Our results have shown that amaranth protein induces a decrease in plasma insulin in mice fed with a regular diet, whereas a decrease in triglycerides was observed in mice fed with high fat diet. Furthermore, down-regulation of Tnf-? and Res, suggested the inhibition of inflammation state. The present study demonstrates that amaranth protein, but not soybean protein, improves the obese mice health, and the hormonal modulation (Lep, Fasn, Lpl) could lead to new mechanism of action by which amaranth consumption exerts its beneficial health effect.

Thus, obtaining an adequate quality of future life will be promoted by comparing and learning more about current financial products in order to guarantee their economic growth objectives. This project was born in a context where the economy of independent workers has shown sustained growth in recent years. However, as a result of the recent COVID 19 uncertainty crisis, a complex economic scenario was experienced where exercising better control and personal financial knowledge became a necessity. The research carried out for the creation of the solution includes an analysis of the profile of independent workers, their behavior towards savings and investment products, and the positive impact and contribution of the solution to the sustainable development objectives. In addition, it shows relevant findings such as the need for integrated, reliable, accessible and easily understood sources of information for decision-making in the administration of its economic resources. A business model to generate leads or potential clients was determined for financial or insurance entities, through which the platform becomes a channel for these strategic allies to attract profiled clients, with a particular interest, on the products and services offered. As a final result, it was possible to design a profitable and sustainable product focused on providing information on financial products
