To receive satellite navigation signals currently single element antennas are used. This leads to non optimal antenna patterns especially for land mobile applications. Through optimization of the antenna pattern especially through enhancement of the gain slope towards low elevation angles the availability of satellite signals can be improved. This will also lead to a better positioning accuracy. In the report an analysis and description is given how this optimization can be achieved through the use of array antenna techniques. The beamforming is performed using vectormodulators. The achieved enhancements have been verified through measurements. A 10 dB improvement in signal to noise power ratio compared to classical antennas has been documented. This new antenna concept is useful for applications, that require high accuracy and high availability. SATNAV - Aktive Endgeraete Antenna Phase II. Signalverarbeitung und Strahlformung Abschlussbericht
In classical array antennas analog components like phase shifters and amplitude control devices or fixed beamforming networks are used to generate the antenna pattern. These methods have limitations regarding complexity and flexibility. In the current research activity the aim was to perform the beamforming in the digital domain. Modern receivers use for the signal processing tasks digital concepts. Therefore it would be effective to perform the beamforming also in the digital domain. This technology could overcome the limitations of the analog concept. But there will appear new challenges mainly regarding the processing speed requirements. The concept of digital beamforming was analysed both theoretically through simulations and experimentally through the build up of an antenna demonstrator. The capabilities of digital beamforming have been successfully demonstrated in a measurement setup. Besides the use in satellite navigation applications this beamforming concept has the potential to be used in satellite based multimedia applications as well as in terminals for low earth orbit communication satellite systems. Real-time Estimation of Lower Extremity Joint Torques in Normal Gait
Joint torques of the lower extremity are useful information for gait analysis or gait assistive systems. In this paper, an estimation method for observing the joint torques of the lower extremity is proposed. The proposed method is based on the inverse dynamics of a human body, where the human body model applies a planar link-segment model which consists of seven segments. Lagrangian mechanics is applied to calculate the joint torque, and the required motion information is measured by sensors or estimated by kinematic Kalman filter (KKF). The joint torque equation depends on the ground contact conditions of the human body model, and the ground contact conditions can be identified by gait phases. Thus, multiple set of equations are used for the estimation of the joint torques in different gait phases. The gait phases are detected by Smart Shoes, and the detected gait phases are also used for smoothing the joint torques when the ground contact conditions are changed. The proposed method has been validated by experiments
