Benefits to Opening a Comprehensive Outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy Center

    Get PDF
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) can reduce costs related to medication, physician utilization, and hospital admissions in addition to improving patient clinical outcomes (Morris et al., 2017). MNT can be a cost-effective way to manage co-morbidities and prevent or delay the progression of chronic disease(s) (Morris et al., 2017). While registered dietitians have always played a vital role in the health of their patients, reimbursement for medical nutrition therapy services is limited. During a patient’s hospital admission, dietitians prescribe nutrition interventions and implement a plan of care. After a patient is discharged, they often are not followed by a dietitian. Current healthcare systems lack the ability for patients to continue the reinforcement education needed to sustain nutritional improvements. The development of a comprehensive outpatient MNT center can provide patients with access to a dietitian post-discharge. Literature review consensus is favorable towards post-discharge nutrition interventions being effective at reducing unplanned readmissions, decreasing mortality rates and improving patient quality of life. Increasing patient access to MNT can not only yield profits from services rendered but, downstream the healthcare system can see positive impacts through the reduction of unplanned readmissions, costs of hospital services rendered, length of stay and Physician utilization (Briggs Early & Stanley, 2018; Toulson Davisson Correia et al., 2021)

A pattern of low parental involvement exists at in an inner-city school in the northeast region of the United States, where 90% of the students are students of color and fewer than 10% of parents attend school-based activities. Low parental involvement at the local school may lead to decreased student achievement and limited access to needed resources and information. A qualitative case study design was used to explore the problem. Epstein\u27s typology, which includes the traditional definition of parental involvement and acknowledges the parents\u27 role in the home, provided the conceptual framework for the study. Research questions focused on perceived challenges that prevent parent participation, specific types of parental involvement strategies that are most effective when working with inner-city families, and potential solutions to the problems. Data collection included reviewing reports and conducting individual interviews with 5 elementary school parents, 5 teachers, and the principal at the research site. Inductive data analysis included organizing and categorizing data to develop themes related to the problem and perceived solutions. Findings revealed ineffective home-school communication, language differences, and a lack of shared meaning regarding parental involvement between parents and teachers. Identification of these challenges led to development of a 3-day professional learning series for parents, teachers, and administrators that focused on benefits of parental involvement. Implementation of the program may help to facilitate building of school-family community partnerships to empower parents to support their children\u27s learning at home and at school

Background. Newborns with hyaline membrane disease (HMD) were still able to experience death although they were given by continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). Early diagnosis and detection of multiple factors asosiated to these incident could be used to prevent mortality in newborns with HMD were given CPAP. Aim. To determine low birth weight (LBW), infection, premature, began CPAP> 5 hours after birth, the degree of HMD, asphyxia, not given antenatal steroids and surfactant as factors assosiated to the mortality of newborns with HMD were given CPAP. Methods. An analytical observational study with case control design was conducted in Dr. Kariadi Hospital using medical records in January 2009 - December 2014. The group of 20 cases of newborns with HMD were given CPAP and died. The control group are newborns with HMD were given CPAP and survived as much as 20 babies. Subjects taken by consequtive sampling method. HMD was based on doctor's diagnosis and/or radiology. Bivariate analysis was done using Chi-square and Fisher Exact. Multivariate analysis was done using logistic regression. Results. Multivariate analysis found the factors that influence the mortality of newborns with HMD by CPAP is the severity of HMD (p=0,006; OR=4,666; 95%CI=1,568-13,888). Factors other than the severity of PMH does not become an influential factor. Conclusion. Severity factor of HMD was assosiated with mortality of newborns with HMD were given CPAP. Keywords: HMD, CPAP, mortality risk factors

Linear Regression Analysis is a statistical method for modeling the relation between response variable and predictor variable. Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) is an expansion of linear regression model if spatial heterogeneity occurred. Local multicollinearity test is required to know the presence of linear correlation between independent variables for each observation location. Geographically Weighted Ridge Regression (GWRR) is a extension of GWR model to solve local multicollinearity problem. Parameter estimation for GWR and GWRR model is done using Weighted Least Square (WLS) method by applying optimum bandwith with Cross Validation (CV) criteria. GWRR model is applied on locally generated recurring revenues (PAD) at district and city of Central Java and its result shows the ability of GWRR model to erase multicollinearity problem. Based on Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) value for GWR and GWRR model, it is know that the best model to analyze locally generated recurring revenues (PAD) at district and city of Central Java is GWRR model with the smallest MSE and AIC value

This study is set to investigate increased preference for Hit FM radio station Calabar as a medium for promoting businesses by small scale business owners’. There are other radio stations that had existed within the city before the advent of Hit FM in January 2016. The study assumes that Hit FM may have adopted a unique and attractive broadcasting style. The objective of this paper is to discover the factors that are responsible for the increased preference. The paper is an empirical study and adopts the qualitative method using structured interviews for eliciting information from randomly selected members of the small scale business owners’ community who promote their businesses on Hit FM Calabar. Findings indicate that the Hit FM is more preferred by small scale business owners because it is newly established with very attractive programmes that appeal more to the educational, informative and entertainment needs of their audiences. Also, the station has geometrically grown a large fan base with a very wide reach, which has endeared business owners to increasingly promote their products on Hit FM Calabar. Administratively, the station has employed very young and experienced On Air Personalities. The study concludes that advertising on Hit FM has made a very positive and significant impact on small scale businesses. The study recommends a high maintenance culture and periodic retraining of Hit FM staff for delivery of more quality programmes and the need for other radio stations in Calabar to rebrand

    Get PDF
Assistance to young, single, African American mothers requires adaptation to their environmental stressors along with reliance on social support. Further information is necessary for developing and supporting an appropriate model for delivery of that assistance. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine potential correlations between general social support and parenting skills and disciplinary practices amongst low-income, African American single mothers. Bronfenbrenner\u27s ecological systems theory model supported this study to further develop an accurate perspective of African American families to inform more effective approaches to parenting. The participants for this correlational research design study were 78 mothers who had preschool age children, between the ages of 2 and 5. The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Parents\u27 Child-Rearing Behavior Interview Questionnaire, and the Attitudes Toward Spanking Children Questionnaire were used to measure the variables under study. Ordinal regression was used to examine the correlations between social support, parenting skills, and disciplinary practices. A significant interaction between social support, parenting skills, and disciplinary practices was not found with the tools used in this study; however, there was only a relationship determined between general social support and disciplinary practices. The knowledge gained from this study can be useful to researchers and practitioners in developing culturally appropriate parenting support and education, positively impacting the delivery of parenting by single, urban, African American mothers
