La rĂ©action dâhĂ©magglutination type Middlebrook- Dubos, effectuĂ©e chez 118 bovins avec des hĂ©maties de mouton et la tuberculine soit dite « prĂ©cipitĂ©e » soit I.P. 48 de l âInstitut Pasteur de Paris, a Ă©tĂ© positive dans 81 p. 100 des cas de tuberculose Ă©volutive, avec des pourcentages variables selon la nature des lĂ©sions puisquâelle a Ă©tĂ© maxima (100 p. 100) pour les lĂ©sions pleuro-pulmonaires, forte (87,3 p. 100) pour les lĂ©sions de plusieurs organes ou gĂ©nĂ©ralisĂ©es, et faible (50 p. 100) pour les lĂ©sions ganglio-pulmonaires . Par contre, elle a Ă©tĂ© le plus souvent nĂ©gative lorsque les lĂ©sions Ă©taient limitĂ©es aux ganglions pulmonaires et de type casĂ©o-calcaire. Cette rĂ©action a Ă©tĂ© trĂšs rarement (4,0 p. 100) positive chez des animaux apparemment sains, et toujours dâailleurs Ă des taux faibles. Bien que des recherches portant sur de nombreux sĂ©rums soient encore nĂ©cessaires (pour prĂ©ciser en particulier la signification des rĂ©actions positives chez les bovidĂ©s apparemment sains), on peut admettre, semble-t-il, dĂšs maintenant, quâune rĂ©action nettement positive (5> 1/147) traduit toujours une tuberculose Ă©volutive atteignant plusieurs organes. We discuss the structure of the derived category of coherent sheaves on cubic
fourfolds of three types: Pfaffian cubics, cubics containing a plane and
singular cubics, and discuss its relation to the rationality of these cubics.Comment: 18 page
Verdier specialization via weak factorization
Let X in V be a closed embedding, with V - X nonsingular. We define a
constructible function on X, agreeing with Verdier's specialization of the
constant function 1 when X is the zero-locus of a function on V. Our definition
is given in terms of an embedded resolution of X; the independence on the
choice of resolution is obtained as a consequence of the weak factorization
theorem of Abramovich et al. The main property of the specialization function
is a compatibility with the specialization of the Chern class of the complement
V-X. With the definition adopted here, this is an easy consequence of standard
intersection theory. It recovers Verdier's result when X is the zero-locus of a
function on V. Our definition has a straightforward counterpart in a motivic
group. The specialization function and the corresponding Chern class and
motivic aspect all have natural `monodromy' decompositions, for for any X in V
as above. The definition also yields an expression for Kai Behrend's
constructible function when applied to (the singularity subscheme of) the

Mesoscopic Analysis of Structure and Strength of Dislocation Junctions in FCC Metals
We develop a finite element based dislocation dynamics model to simulate the
structure and strength of dislocation junctions in FCC crystals. The model is
based on anisotropic elasticity theory supplemented by the explicit inclusion
of the separation of perfect dislocations into partial dislocations bounding a
stacking fault. We demonstrate that the model reproduces in precise detail the
structure of the Lomer-Cottrell lock already obtained from atomistic
simulations. In light of this success, we also examine the strength of
junctions culminating in a stress-strength diagram which is the locus of points
in stress space corresponding to dissolution of the junction.Comment: 9 Pages + 4 Figure
Abel-Jacobi maps for hypersurfaces and non commutative Calabi-Yau's
It is well known that the Fano scheme of lines on a cubic 4-fold is a
symplectic variety. We generalize this fact by constructing a closed p-form
with p=2n-4 on the Fano scheme of lines on a (2n-2)-dimensional hypersurface Y
of degree n. We provide several definitions of this form - via the Abel-Jacobi
map, via Hochschild homology, and via the linkage class, and compute it
explicitly for n = 4. In the special case of a Pfaffian hypersurface Y we show
that the Fano scheme is birational to a certain moduli space of sheaves on a
p-dimensional Calabi--Yau variety X arising naturally in the context of
homological projective duality, and that the constructed form is induced by the
holomorphic volume form on X. This remains true for a general non Pfaffian
hypersurface but the dual Calabi-Yau becomes non commutative.Comment: 34 pages; exposition of Hochschild homology expanded; references

Measurements of the Tune Variations Induced by Non-Linearities in Lepton Machines
The precise measurement of the betatron tune as a function of the oscillation amplitude provides a useful information on non-linear beam dynamics. In lepton accelerators, this measurement is made difficult due to various damping mechanisms. To counteract this, we propose to use algorithms that provide a precise measurement of the tune in a small number of turns. We apply these procedures in LEP at injection and collision energy, as well as in SPEAR at injection energy. Collections of experimental data, and a first comparison with the results of model-based simulations are discussed
Droplet actuation induced by coalescence: experimental evidences and phenomenological modeling
This paper considers the interaction between two droplets placed on a
substrate in immediate vicinity. We show here that when the two droplets are of
different fluids and especially when one of the droplet is highly volatile, a
wealth of fascinating phenomena can be observed. In particular, the interaction
may result in the actuation of the droplet system, i.e. its displacement over a
finite length. In order to control this displacement, we consider droplets
confined on a hydrophilic stripe created by plasma-treating a PDMS substrate.
This controlled actuation opens up unexplored opportunities in the field of
microfluidics. In order to explain the observed actuation phenomenon, we
propose a simple phenomenological model based on Newton's second law and a
simple balance between the driving force arising from surface energy gradients
and the viscous resistive force. This simple model is able to reproduce
qualitatively and quantitatively the observed droplet dynamics
Corporate Hierarchies and the Size of Nations: Theory and Evidence
Corporate organization varies within a country and across countries with country size. The paper starts by establishing some facts about corporate organization based on unique data of 660 Austrian and German corporations. The larger country (Germany) has larger firms with flatter more decentral corporate hierarchies compared to the smaller country (Austria). Firms in the larger country change their organization less fast than firms in the smaller country. Over time firms have been introducing less hierarchical organizations by delegating power to lower levels of the corporation. We develop a theory which explains these facts and which links these features to the trade environment that countries and firms face. We introduce firms with internal hierarchies in a Krugman (1980) model of trade. We show that international trade and the toughness of competition in international markets induce a power struggle in firms which eventually leads to decentralized corporate hierarchies. We offer econometric evidence which is consistent with the models predictions
The Importance of Correlations and Fluctuations on the Initial Source Eccentricity in High-Energy Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
In this paper, we investigate various ways of defining the initial source
eccentricity using the Monte Carlo Glauber (MCG) approach. In particular, we
examine the participant eccentricity, which quantifies the eccentricity of the
initial source shape by the major axes of the ellipse formed by the interaction
points of the participating nucleons. We show that reasonable variation of the
density parameters in the Glauber calculation, as well as variations in how
matter production is modeled, do not significantly modify the already
established behavior of the participant eccentricity as a function of collision
centrality. Focusing on event-by-event fluctuations and correlations of the
distributions of participating nucleons we demonstrate that, depending on the
achieved event-plane resolution, fluctuations in the elliptic flow magnitude
lead to most measurements being sensitive to the root-mean-square, rather
than the mean of the distribution. Neglecting correlations among
participants, we derive analytical expressions for the participant eccentricity
cumulants as a function of the number of participating nucleons,
\Npart,keeping non-negligible contributions up to \ordof{1/\Npart^3}. We
find that the derived expressions yield the same results as obtained from
mixed-event MCG calculations which remove the correlations stemming from the
nuclear collision process. Most importantly, we conclude from the comparison
with MCG calculations that the fourth order participant eccentricity cumulant
does not approach the spatial anisotropy obtained assuming a smooth nuclear
matter distribution. In particular, for the Cu+Cu system, these quantities
deviate from each other by almost a factor of two over a wide range in
