Background: Epiphenomena in neurological disorders can lead to subsequent autoimmune diseases such as autoimmune encephalitis (AE), but research on this condition is limited. There is a lack of knowledge about the development of autoimmune diseases in AE patients due to its rarity. The objective of this study is to investigate the association between the development of autoimmune diseases and patients with anti-NMDA autoimmune encephalitis. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from 2015 to 2022 at UMAE La Raza Antonio Fraga Mouret to investigate the relationship between autoimmune diseases and anti-NMDA AE. 194 patients were tested for anti-NMDA antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and 50 were found to meet the criteria for AE based on clinical, laboratory, and imaging tests. Follow-up evaluations assessed for rheumatological diseases and various additional tests were conducted before and after the AE event. The study was approved by the ethical and investigation committee. Results: Our analysis included 50 patients with autoimmune encephalitis. Of these, 62% were women aged 18-51 years (mean age 31.97 years) and 38% were men aged 19-72 years (mean age 39.2 years). Fifty-two percent of patients had positive antibodies for autoimmune diseases, but only 12% met ACR criteria for autoimmune disease. The CSF was negative for infections. Electroencephelography (EEG) showed abnormalities in 42% of patients, and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed hyperintensity in the medial temporal lobes, cortico-subcortical regions, and white matter. False positives were excluded. Conclusions: Among patients with autoimmune encephalitis, 12% had associated autoimmune diseases, most of which developed after the diagnosis of encephalitis. The observed diseases were 3 cases of lupus, 1 of rheumatoid arthritis, 1 of thyroiditis, and 1 of vasculitis. There is an epiphenomenal relationship between autoimmune encephalitis and subsequent development of autoimmune diseases

Internal Migration in Mexico in the year 2000.

    Get PDF
This study, based on the Census sample of 2000, sought to identify permanent internal migratory flows: people settled in a geographical entity different from that in which they were born. The aim was to establish the volume of migration and the characteristics of the localities (birth and residence) and, at the same time, provide interpretations of these phenomena within some established theoretical frameworks. Methodologically, the principal flows of migration between states of the Republic were established and correlated with the size of the localities to which migrants are attracted. It was found that, the age groups and genders of migrants are reinterpreted, as are their choice of destinations, to give a picture of internal migration different from that suggested in general models, especially those originating in the first world. The role of women in migration in Mexico seems particularly important. A new interpretation of the migration of children is suggested

Autoimmune post-COVID vaccine syndromes: Does the spectrum of autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome expand

    Get PDF
To date, around 60% of the world population has been protected by vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, significantly reducing the devastating effect of the pandemic and restoring social economic activity through mass vaccination. Multiple studies have demonstrated the effectiveness and safety of vaccines against COVID-19 in healthy populations, in people with risk factors, in people with or without SARS-CoV-2 infection, and in immunocompromised people. According to the criteria for post-vaccine adverse events established by the World Health Organization, a minority of individuals may develop adverse events, including autoimmune syndromes. The exact mechanisms for the development of these autoimmune syndromes are under study, and to date, a cause-effect relationship has not been established. Many of these autoimmune syndromes meet sufficient criteria for the diagnosis of Adjuvant-Induced Autoimmune Syndrome (ASIA syndrome). The descriptions of these autoimmune syndromes open new perspectives to the knowledge of the complex relationship between the host, its immune system, with the new vaccines and the development of new-onset autoimmune syndromes. Fortunately, most of these autoimmune syndromes are easily controlled with steroids and other immunomodulatory medications and are short-lived. Rheumatologists must be alert to the development of these autoimmune syndromes, and investigate the relationship between autoimmune/inflammatory symptoms and vaccination time, and assess their therapeutic response

    Immune-Neuroendocrine Interactions and Autoimmune Diseases

The relationship between immune-neuroendocrine system is firmly established. The messengers of this connection are hormones, neuropeptides, neurotransmitters and cytokines. The immune-neuroendocrine system have the capacity to synthesize and release these molecules, which, in turn, can stimulate or suppress the activity of immune or neuroendocrine cells by binding to receptors. In fact, hormones, neuropeptides and neurotransmitters participate in innate and adaptive immune response

We thank Dr. Kunal Chandwar for their interest in our article “Autoimmune post-COVID vaccine syndromes: does the spectrum of autoimmune/infammatory syndrome expand?” Indeed, we have included all of the COVID-19 vaccines, and we agree with you that they have diferent mechanisms of action but similar capabilities to protect against COVID19 to millions of people. Therefore, they also can induce adverse effects, including autoimmune syndromes, in a minority of people with genetic and environmental risk factors

TEORÍA DE LA MIGRACIÓN. UN ESTUDIO APLICADO EN NAYARIT

    Get PDF

Product, process and resource model coupling for knowledge-driven assembly automation

    Get PDF
: Accommodating frequent product changes in a short period of time is a challenging task due to limitations of the contemporary engineering approach to design, build and reconfigure automation systems. In particular, the growing quantity and diversity of manufacturing information, and the increasing need to exchange and reuse this information in an efficient way has become a bottleneck. To improve the engineering process, digital manufacturing and Product, Process and Resource (PPR) modelling are considered very promising to compress development time and engineering cost by enabling efficient design and reconfiguration of manufacturing resources. However, due to ineffective coupling of PPR data, design and reconfiguration of assembly systems are still challenging tasks due to the dependency on the knowledge and experience of engineers. This paper presents an approach for data models integration that can be employed for coupling the PPR domain models for matching the requirements of products for assembly automation. The approach presented in this paper can be used effectively to link data models from various engineering domains and engineering tools. For proof of concept, an example implementation of the approach for modelling and integration of PPR for a Festo test rig is presented as a case study
