    Determining IT Student Profile Using Data Mining and Social Network Analysis

    To become higher competitive a university needs to develop a viable students’ absorption strategy on the labor market. A key to the successful development of such a strategy rests to synchronize jobs descriptions with profiles and behavior of IT students. In order to generate this synchronization, it is essential to identify a way to improve university curricula, learning and teaching process based on the students’ profile and on the labor market needs. In this manner, universities could offer IT companies information about their IT students’ profile and behavior. Our paper proposes a data mining and social network analysis to examine IT students’ skills and behavior in order to generate their actual profile. The results contribute to the development of knowledge concerning the IT graduates’ profile and based on this, a solution that might match the university curricula with the labor market requirements. Finally, the results attempt to provide IT companies with information with the aim of better understanding the IT students’ profile and to create a realistic description of the job in the recruitment software on the digital market

    Ultra-short pulse HiPIMS: a strategy to suppress arcing during reactive deposition of SiO2 thin films with enhanced mechanical and optical properties

    In this contribution, based on the detailed understanding of the processes’ characteristics during reactive high-power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS), we demonstrated the deposition of silicon oxide (SiO2) thin films with improved optical and mechanical performances. A strategy for stabilizing the arc-free HiPIMS of Si target in the presence of oxygen was investigated. Arcing was suppressed by suitable pulse configurations, ensuring good process stability without using any feedback control system. It was found that arcing can be significantly alleviated when ultra-short HiPIMS pulses are applied on the target. The optical and mechanical properties of SiO2 coatings deposited at various pulsing configurations were analyzed. The coatings prepared by ultra-short pulse HiPIMS exhibited better optical and mechanical performance compared to the coatings prepared by long pulse HiPIMS. The optimized SiO2 coatings on quartz substrates exhibited an average transmittance of 98.5% in the 190–1100-nm wavelength range, hardness of 9.27 GPa, hardness/Young’s modulus ratio of 0.138, and critical adhesion load of 14.8 N. The optical and mechanical properties are correlated with the film morphology, which is inherently related to energetic conditions and process stability during film growth.D.     Photoinduced properties of "T-type" polyimides with azobenzene or azopyridine moieties

    In this work series of “T-type” polyimides with azobenzene or azopyridine moieties were investigated. It is the first report where the “T-type” polyimides with derivatives of azopyridine were investigated. The cis-trans isomerization in the dark in the solid-state was showed. Polyimides with azobenzene derivatives exhibited higher stability of cis-trans recovery than their azobenzene analogues. For the inscription of the surface relief gratings, two different intensities of light (10 and 45 mJ/cm2) and a number of pulses (10 and 100) were used. Polyimides showed the modulation of SRGs up to almost 330 nm. Our studies showed, that azopolyimides are able to orient the nematic liquid crystal molecules in cell-based on effect at the twisted nematic. The obtained maximum value of tON was 0.9 ms (1 kHz, 1.5 V/μm) for polyimide with azobenzene moieties. Azopolyimides may be successfully used in many photonic devices based on the alignment of the liquid crystal mixture i.e. LC diffraction gratings, Fresnel lens, Vortex, in a photo-pattering technology for creating radical and azimuthal orienting layers

    Bentonite as an active natural filler for silicone leading to piezoelectric-like response material

    Raw sodium bentonite (Bent) without preliminary treatments is incorporated as a filler in a silicone matrix, from 5 to 100 parts per hundred (pph), by weight, by simple mixing in solution. The mixtures are processed as films and stabilized by condensation crosslinking at room temperature. Besides being environmentally safe and non-toxic, bentonite is 30 times cheaper than polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), so the cost price of composites can be reduced by over 40%. Studies on the effects of bentonite addition as filler on the properties of composites reveal that thermal stability is not significantly affected, while an increase in the amount of inorganic residue with an increase of Bent content is recorded. More importantly, the mechanical and dielectric properties are significantly influenced by the Bent content in the PDMS matrix. The Young's modulus increases, while the elongation decreases, indicating a stiffening of the material and a decrease in its elasticity as the Bent load increases. Most notably, the dielectric permittivity increases up to more than five times at 103 Hz by adding 100 pph Bent, while the dielectric losses remain acceptable, especially at high frequencies for all composites. Furthermore, the study of composite films through Piezoresponse Force Microscopy and piezoelectric testing system reveals an outstanding piezoelectric-like response for composites with a high Bent content.     Band-gap engineering of zirconia by nitrogen doping in reactive HiPIMS: a step forward in developing innovative technologies for photocatalysts synthesis

    In the global context of climate change and carbon neutrality, this work proposes a strategy to improve the light absorption of photocatalytic water-splitting materials into the visible spectrum by anion doping. In this framework, reactive high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) of a pure Zr target in Ar/N2/O2 gas mixture was used for the deposition of crystalline zirconium oxynitride (ZrO2-xNx) thin films with variable nitrogen doping concentration and energy band-gap. The nitrogen content into these films was controlled by the discharge pulsing frequency, which controls the target surface poisoning and peak discharge current. The role of the nitrogen doping on the optical, structural, and photocatalytic properties of ZrO2-xNx films was investigated. UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy was employed to investigate the optical properties and to assess the energy band-gap. Surface chemical analysis was performed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, while structural analysis was carried out by X-ray diffraction. The increase in the pulse repetition frequency determined a build-up in the nitrogen content of the deposited ZrO2-xNx thin films from ∼10 to ∼25 at.%. This leads to a narrowing of the optical band-gap energy from 3.43 to 2.20 eV and endorses efficient absorption of visible light. Owing to its narrow bandgap, ZrO2-xNx thin films obtained by reactive HiPIMS can be used as visible light-driven photocatalyst. For the selected processing conditions (pulsing configuration and gas composition), it was found that reactive HiPIMS can suppress the hysteresis effect for a wide range of frequencies, leading to a stable deposition process with a smooth transition from compound to metal-sputtering mode

    Efficient Removal of Methylene Blue and Ciprofloxacin from Aqueous Solution Using Flower-like, Nanostructured ZnO Coating under UV Irradiation

    Flower-like ZnO architectures assembled with many nanorods were successfully synthesized through Thermionic Vacuum Arc, operated both in direct current (DC-TVA) and a pulsed mode (PTVA), and coupled with annealing in an oxygen atmosphere. The prepared coatings were analysed by scanning-electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray-spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), X-ray-diffraction (XRD), and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. By simply modifying the TVA operation mode, the morphology and uniformity of ZnO nanorods can be tuned. The photocatalytic performance of synthesized nanostructured ZnO coatings was measured by the degradation of methylene-blue (MB) dye and ciprofloxacin (Cipro) antibiotic. The ZnO (PTVA) showed enhancing results regarding the photodegradation of target contaminants. About 96% of MB molecules were removed within 60 min of UV irradiation, with a rate constant of 0.058 min−1, which is almost nine times higher than the value of ZnO (DC-TVA). As well, ZnO (PTVA) presented superior photocatalytic activity towards the decomposition of Cipro, after 240 min of irradiation, yielding 96% degradation efficiency. Moreover, the agar-well diffusion assay performance against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria confirms the degradation of antibiotic molecules by the UV/ZnO (PTVA) approach, without the formation of secondary hazardous products during the photocatalysis process. Repeated cyclic usage of coatings revealed excellent reusability and operational stability
