Introduction: Holistic Health is an approach to life. Rather than focusing on illness or specific parts of the body, this ancient approach to health considers the whole person and how he or she interacts with his or her environment. Holistic Health is related to healthy diet and physical exercise, salutogenesis, health promotion, meditation, yoga, rehabilitation techniques, exercise and trauma care, biosciences in rehabilitation and prevention of diseases. Objective: To determine perception and practices regarding holistic health among medical students. Materials and methods: The present study was conducted among 150 medical students of a medical college in MP state in India. The study was conducted through a questionnaire having questions about our daily life decisions and situations, diet and emotions. All three domains of holistic health were covered i.e. body, mind and spirit and then scored accordingly to grade the level of health. Results: There were 49 males and 101 females in the study sample. The study showed that 15% of the students perceived optimal health, 23% excellent health, 32% good health, 12% fair health, 10% below average heath, and 8% poor health. None of them perceived extremely poor health. 50.0% admitted that they eat healthy diet, and 48.0% agreed that their water intake is adequate while 46.3% get at least seven to nine hours of sleep. In addition, 38.7% admitted that they suffer from increased body weight (obesity), and only 34.0% exercise frequently. Only 37.8% of students were able to meet their financial needs and desires, 56.0% admitted that their job does not utilize all of their greatest talents, and 26% agreed that they have peace of mind and tranquillity. Conclusion: The majority of college medical students have good health but at the same time, it was found that a high percentage of the students are either unaware or are ignorant about the importance of regular physical activities and suffer from increased body weight. TStudents needs to be made aware about concept of holistic health and how to achieve i

Ayurveda is an ancient and most trusted Indian system of medicine commonly used by Indians since time immemorial. Lifestyle diseases/ Metabolic diseases are described as diseases related to the way an individual or group of individuals live, also are referred under Non-Communicable Diseases. Over-crowding and rapid unplanned urbanization; globalization of unhealthy lifestyles is responsible for some of the major reasons for a sedentary life leading to these diseases. It includes arteriosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, obesity and type-2 diabetes, diseases related to smoking, alcohol and drug abuse. The contribution of metabolic risk factors such as high blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and that of improper diet and alcohol use resulting in health loss. Therefore, the occurrence of these disorders has doubled in India over the past quarter of a century therefore it is the need of the hour to manage them diligently. Pathya and Apathya Ahara (dietary consideration) is a significant component of almost each and every prescription in Ayurveda therapy. Sometimes, Pathya-Apathya (dietary management) is itself an entire treatment

Lack of Wdr13 Gene in Mice Leads to Enhanced Pancreatic Beta Cell Proliferation, Hyperinsulinemia and Mild Obesity

WD-repeat proteins are very diverse, yet these are structurally related proteins that participate in a wide range of cellular functions. WDR13, a member of this family, is conserved from fishes to humans and localizes into the nucleus. To understand the in vivo function(s) of Wdr13 gene, we have created and characterized a mutant mouse strain lacking this gene. The mutant mice had higher serum insulin levels and increased pancreatic islet mass as a result of enhanced beta cell proliferation. While a known cell cycle inhibitor, p21, was downregulated in the mutant islets, over expression of WDR13 in the pancreatic beta cell line (MIN6) resulted in upregulation of p21, accompanied by retardation of cell proliferation. We suggest that WDR13 is a novel negative regulator of the pancreatic beta cell proliferation. Given the higher insulin levels and better glucose clearance in Wdr13 gene deficient mice, we propose that this protein may be a potential candidate drug target for ameliorating impaired glucose metabolism in diabetes

Speech is the means of communication in the vocal form, used to express oneโ€™s emotions, thoughts and feelings. Research in the field of speech generation has been ongoing for several decades, and it has evidently made significant progress with the introduction of systems like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. With a rise in conversational form of interactions between humans and computers, it becomes crucial to make the speech technology as realistic, reliable and intelligent to be useful to the masses. Several techniques have been developed and explored, which has helped incorporate these systems into our everyday lives like automated responses on the telephones, announcements on the train or metro station or as an aid to those who are visually blind or those who have lost their ability to speak. Despite the complexities and the challenges involved, it comes as no surprise that this field has received a lot of attention and resources during the last few decades, with the main goal of creating systems that mimic human understanding of speech. This report focuses on the concatenative synthesis approach to build the text-to-speech system, while maintaining speech intelligibility and quality at appropriate levels.Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science

One of India's ancient systems of medicine is Ayurveda. The fundamental principal of Ayurvedic medicine is to keep your body, mind, and environment in balance and harmony in order to prevent and treat sickness rather than to treat symptoms of disease. In order to treat the disease's underlying cause and restore balance, Ayurveda uses natural ingredients. For a very long period, herbal medicines were used for a variety of therapeutic goals in ancient Chinese, Greek, Egyptian, and Indian medicine. According to the World Health Organization, 80% of the world's population still primarily relies on traditional medicines for their medical care. With around 45,000 plant species, the Indian subcontinent is renowned for being one of the key hubs for biodiversity. Sharangdhara Samhita, emphasised the idea of polyherbalism as a means of enhancing therapeutic efficacy. Sometimes the active phytochemical components of a single plant are not enough to bring about the intended therapeutic results so they are mixed in a certain ratio to enhance the therapeutic effects and combat toxicity. Hence new findings in Ayurveda are gradually focusing on the significance of poly herbalism and its clinical relevance. In this study, efforts have been made to lay down analytical standards for Shleshmatakadhya Agada Ghanavati, which were not found reported till date. Shleshmatakadhya Agada Ghanavati was manufactured at the Hans Herbal Pvt. Ltd. Pharmacy, Haridwar were within acceptable range. Determination of heavy metals was also done additionally and the result showed that all the metals were within the API limits in the formulation. In TLC, 3 spots were found

Background: COVID-19, a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 has become a public health emergency of worldwide concern. Originated in Wuhan District of China, it has spread globally at a very rapid rate causing millions of deaths worldwide. Aims and Objectives: To summarize findings from all the current literature available from different databases regarding the epidemiological, clinical characteristics, laboratory diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of the SARS-CoV-2. This will help out the reader to have a fine gist of all the data available on SARS-CoV-2 in an effective manner. Methods: All the research literature from Jan-March 2020 and available on the following online databases: bio-Rxiv, PubMed, Google Scholar, Embase as well as CNKI and Wang Fang data were included in the review. The keywords used for data search were โ€œcoronavirus,โ€ โ€œnCoV,โ€ โ€œ2019-nCoV,โ€ and โ€œCOVID-19.โ€ Conclusion: After undergoing extensive literature search, it can be concluded that it mainly effects elderly male population. Mode of transmission is droplet transmission and human to human transmission is present. The main diagnostic modality remains molecular assays though several rapid testing methods are on the way. Due to lack of specific treatment guidelines, Infection control and supportive treatment remain the mainstay. Plethora of experiments are under trails for development of effective vaccine which can be a ray of hope in future
