The study is carried out in collaboration with Serbian students from the MTC, from the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of Craiova and with a company from the same country, in order to make a comparison and analogy between the methods and procedures of surveying used in the two countries (Serbia and Romania). The paper presents a case study conducted in the town of Kladovo in Serbia in which a private property was taken into account, which must be registered in the Land Book. In order to solve all the requirements of such a work, a modern and new method was applied, used more and more in the topo-cadastral surveys, namely the combined method GPS and total station. From the surveys carried out in the field and processed at the office, it is found that the methodologies and working procedures are identical to those used in our country. It is also found that the equipment used is very modern and high-performance, which allowed to obtain a very high precision and a high economic efficiency of the work. In the end, the technical documentation prepared strictly complied with all the requirements of the legal norms imposed in Serbia and was done with great precision, which allowed it to be submitted to the office of the Land Book and the registration of the property studied in it. The significant difference between the technical documentation prepared for this property in Serbia and the documentation made in Romania is the Gauss-Kruger coordinate system in which the boundary points were determined, compared to the 1970 Stereographic system used in our country

The work aims to carry out topo-cadastral surveys for the design of rehabilitation and modernization works of the county road that crosses the Bucovăț-Leamna agrotourism area, near the city of Craiova, which is in full development and evolution. For the field application of all lifting works, a state-of-the-art modern equipment such as GPS technology and total stations was used, and the combined method GPS-Total Stations was used as the surveying method. Their use has led to relevant results in terms of the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of such a surveying project. Also, for the data processing, the method of transferring the data measured in the field, from the topographic devices directly to the computer, with the help of special programs was used, after which they were processed automatically obtaining the absolute coordinates of the points with the precision required by the beneficiary, in compliance with all legal requirements, applied to such works. The points were represented with the AutoCad program, obtaining the location and delimitation plan for each large-scale road body, which allows the designer to perform the design work in great detail, with great fidelity and precision. At the same time, it ensures a very high precision of tracing and execution of all the rehabilitation and modernization works of the studied road, of great local and county interest

The present paper addresses a very complex and difficult research topic, but of great current importance and wide applicability in practice. We affirm this because it is very well known that the road and rail infrastructure 30 years after the revolution is in a very precarious state, we can say very sad, because its rehabilitation and modernization has been done at a very slow pace. Therefore, the working team considered that approaching such a topic of great interest, is beneficial first of all for the practice, since the volume of works of such nature must increase considerably in the future and not lastly it is very valuable from the academic and scientific point of view. In order to solve the thematic approach, the working team used the latest and topographic devices and programs for processing the measured data, which allowed to obtain relevant and very correct results. The working methodology was perfectly adapted to the objective pursued, the situation existing on the ground and the precision imposed by the beneficiary, an aspect that led to obtaining a high execution efficiency of the works, but also to a high economic efficiency, because the time of execution, the volume of works and the number of personnel was greatly reduced

“The Peer Educator Is the Game-Changer of My Life”: Perceptions of Adolescents Living with HIV in DR Congo on Involving Peer Educators in the Process of HIV Disclosure

    Get PDF
Several approaches to the disclosure of HIV status to children and adolescents have been described. Each of these places particular emphasis on the role of parents and health care workers (HCWs) to mitigate the impact of disclosure on the adolescent without exploring the possible roles that other individuals might play in the process of disclosure. This article assesses the perceptions of adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) about disclosure done by parents, guardians, HCWs, peer educators in the role of peer supporters, accidentally or by self-discovery, and the subsequent effects of disclosure method on their mental health. We used a qualitative study to conduct semi-structured interviews with 73 ALHIV at the Kalembelembe Paediatric Hospital, in DR Congo disclosed to by parents, guardians, HCWs, and/or peer educators, respectively, or disclosed to accidentally or by self-discovery. Microsoft Excel analysis matrix was used to organize the qualitative data. The majority of ALHIV whose disclosure involved a peer educator unanimously acknowledged the important role of the peer in accepting their HIV status, in their ART adherence, and their development of self-esteem. However, most ALHIV disclosed without involving peers declared that they had accepted their situation after a relatively long period followed by contact with the peer and integration in the self-support group. We found that the peer approach is the game-changer of the HIV status disclosure process that would allow ALHIV to accept their HIV status with minimum distress, it builds resilience, and allows them to adhere to treatment.publishedVersio

HIV Disclosure to Infected Children Involving Peers: A New Take on HIV Disclosure in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Appropriately informing HIV-infected children of their diagnosis is a real challenge in sub-Saharan Africa. Until now, there is no consensus on who ought to disclose and how to disclose. This paper describes the model for HIV status disclosure in which HIV-positive children/adolescents are informed about their diagnosis in a process conducted by young peers under healthcare worker (HCW) supervision in a hospital in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo. This new take on HIV status disclosure involving peers includes four stages that help the trained peer supporters to provide appropriate counseling, taking into account the age and level of maturity of the child/adolescent: the preliminary stage, the partial disclosure stage, the full disclosure stage, and the post-disclosure follow-up stage. Of all children/adolescents whose HIV status disclosure data were documented at Kalembelembe Pediatric Hospital (KLLPH) between 2004 and 2016, we found that disclosure by peers was highly accepted by parents, children/adolescents, and health workers. Compared to children/adolescents disclosed to by HCWs or parents, children/adolescents disclosed to by peers had (a) fewer depressive symptoms reported, (b) better drug adherence resulting in higher viral load suppression, and (c) a higher proportion of survivors on treatment. We found that involving peers in the disclosure process of HIV is an important approach to ensure adherence to treatment, resilience, and mental wellbeing of HIV-infected children/adolescents.publishedVersio

MGIS: managing banana (Musa spp.) genetic resources information and high-throughput genotyping data

    Get PDF
Unraveling the genetic diversity held in genebanks on a large scale is underway, due to advances in Next-generation sequence (NGS) based technologies that produce high-density genetic markers for a large number of samples at low cost. Genebank users should be in a position to identify and select germplasm from the global genepool based on a combination of passport, genotypic and phenotypic data. To facilitate this, a new generation of information systems is being designed to efficiently handle data and link it with other external resources such as genome or breeding databases. The Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS), the database for global ex situ-held banana genetic resources, has been developed to address those needs in a user-friendly way. In developing MGIS, we selected a generic database schema (Chado), the robust content management system Drupal for the user interface, and Tripal, a set of Drupal modules which links the Chado schema to Drupal. MGIS allows germplasm collection examination, accession browsing, advanced search functions, and germplasm orders. Additionally, we developed unique graphical interfaces to compare accessions and to explore them based on their taxonomic information. Accession-based data has been enriched with publications, genotyping studies and associated genotyping datasets reporting on germplasm use. Finally, an interoperability layer has been implemented to facilitate the link with complementary databases like the Banana Genome Hub and the MusaBase breeding database.
