Heat content with singular initial temperature and singular specific heat

Let (M,g) be a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. Let D be a compact subdomain of M with smooth boundary. We examine the heat content asymptotics for the heat flow from D into M where both the initial temperature and the specific heat are permitted to have controlled singularities on the boundary of D. The operator driving the heat process is assumed to be an operator of Laplace typ

Expected volume of intersection of Wiener sausages and heat kernel norms on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary

Estimates are obtained for the expected volume of intersection of independent Wiener sausages in Euclidean space in the small time limit. The asymptotic behaviour of the weighted diagonal heat kernel norm on compact Riemannian manifolds with smooth boundary is obtained in the small time limi

    The strength of countable saturation

We determine the proof-theoretic strength of the principle of countable saturation in the context of the systems for nonstandard arithmetic introduced in our earlier work.Comment: Corrected typos in Lemma 3.4 and the final paragraph of the conclusio

Heat content asymptotics with singular data

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the heat content on a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary and with singular specific heat and singular initial temperature distributions. Assuming the existence of a complete asymptotic series we determine the first three terms in that series. In addition to the general setting, the interval is studied in detail

    Gravitational diffraction radiation

    Get PDF
We show that if the visible universe is a membrane embedded in a higher-dimensional space, particles in uniform motion radiate gravitational waves because of spacetime lumpiness. This phenomenon is analogous to the electromagnetic diffraction radiation of a charge moving near to a metallic grating. In the gravitational case, the role of the metallic grating is played by the inhomogeneities of the extra-dimensional space, such as a hidden brane. We derive a general formula for gravitational diffraction radiation and apply it to a higher-dimensional scenario with flat compact extra dimensions. Gravitational diffraction radiation may carry away a significant portion of the particle's initial energy. This allows to set stringent limits on the scale of brane perturbations. Physical effects of gravitational diffraction radiation are briefly discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, RevTeX4. v2: References added. Version to appear in Phys. Rev.

Out of Equilibrium Solutions in the XYXY-Hamiltonian Mean Field model

Out of equilibrium magnetised solutions of the XYXY-Hamiltonian Mean Field (XYXY-HMF) model are build using an ensemble of integrable uncoupled pendula. Using these solutions we display an out-of equilibrium phase transition using a specific reduced set of the magnetised solutions
