Aansluiting van de kernkwaliteiten Rivierenland bij Farm & Fun : een quickscan van beleidsdocumenten

Deze rapportage doet verslag van een verkenning naar de kernkwaliteiten van en beleid in het werkgebied van Farm & Fun. Hoe sluit het concept aan bij de diverse waarden die centraal staan in het beleid (zoals groen/gezondheid, kinderen, duurzaamheid, vitale lokale plattelandseconomie). En hoe kunnen deze waarden worden vertaald naar een Maatschappelijke Effect Rapportage (MAER) per type activiteit binnen het concept Farm & Fun. Er is in dit project gekeken naar de beleidsdocumenten van de regio Rivierenland. Het samenspel van uiterwaarden, dijken, oeverwallen, stroomruggen, rivierduinen en kommen zijn in sterke mate beeld-en sfeerbepalend. Dijk-en kerkdorpen bevinden zich in slingerende linten door het landschap, met op veel plaatsen schilderachtige doorzichten naar de weidse en open gebieden die zich tussen de nederzettingen bevinden. Het gebied heeft veel natuurwaarde, zoals natuurlijke bossen, stroomdalgraslanden, natte en vochtige schrale graslanden, moerassen en wateren met uitzonderlijke, ecologisch waardevolle, waterkwaliteit. Slingerende landweggetjes en authentieke pontverbindingen over de traag meanderende rivieren bieden toegevoegde waarde voor het concept. Waardevolle monumentale bouwwerken, zoals kastelen, forten, burchten, landhuizen en boerderijen, kunnen het decor van activiteiten vormen of wellicht zelfs de plaats van handelin

On hereditary ovarian cancer:Towards improved management of BRCA1/2 mutation carriers in opposite sides of the world

BRCA1 / 2 mutatie dragers hebben een verhoogd risico op eierstokkanker in vergelijking met de algemene populatie. Het identificeren van BRCA1 / 2 mutatie dragers heeft potentiële klinische voordelen voor preventie, vroegtijdige detectie en begeleidende behandelingsopties voor kanker. Het doel van dit proefschrift was de zorg voor mutatiedragers te verbeteren, zowel in landen met een laag/ middeninkomen, als ook in landen met een hoog inkomen. Hiervoor werden drie aspecten van erfelijke eierstokkanker, die geassocieerd worden met BRCA1 / 2 mutaties, onderzocht: identificatie van mutatie dragers in een omgeving met beperkte middelen, mogelijke oorzaken voor de variatie in het risico op eierstokkanker bij mutatie dragers en de lange termijn gevolgen van risicobeperkende salpingo-oophorectomie (RRSO).De resultaten geven aan dat algoritmen voor het schatten van de kans op het identificeren van een mutatie in een individu, hoewel nog beperkt in nauwkeurigheid, een belangrijk instrument kunnen zijn voor de implementatie van genetische tests als er geen middelen beschikbaar zijn om alle eierstokkankerpatiënten te testen. Mutaties in de centrale delen van de BRCA1 / 2 genen lijken geassocieerd te zijn met een hogere risico op eierstokkanker dan mutaties in andere delen van de genen. Bovendien heeft een familiegeschiedenis van borst- of eierstokkanker ook invloed op eierstokkanker in BRCA1 / 2 mutatie en deze associatie wordt niet volledig verklaard door het effect van de positie van de mutatie op het gen. Wat de gevolgen van preventieve chirurgie betreft, is RRSO geassocieerd met een meer atherogene cholesterolprofiel. In vergelijking met de natuurlijke menopauze heeft de chirurgische menopauze geen duidelijke invloed op botmineraaldichtheid en breukpreventie. Toepassing van deze resultaten kan bijdragen aan het verbeteren van identificatie, counseling en langetermijnbeheer voor BRCA1 / 2 mutatie dragers.BRCA1/2 mutation carriers have an increased risk of ovarian cancer when compared to the general population. Identifying BRCA1/2 mutation carriers has potential clinical benefits for prevention, early detection and guiding treatment options for cancer. The aim of this thesis was to improve care of mutation carriers both in low/middle- and in high-income countries. For that, three aspects of hereditary ovarian cancer associated with BRCA1/2 mutations were explored: identification of mutation carriers in limited resources settings, possible causes of variation in ovarian cancer risk among mutation carriers, and the long term consequences of risk reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO).The results indicate that algorithms for estimating the probability of identifying a mutation in an individual, although still limited in accuracy, can be an important tool for the implementation of genetic testing when resources are not available to test all ovarian cancer patients. Mutations in the central parts of the BRCA1/2 genes appear to be associated with higher ovarian cancer risks than mutations in other portions of the genes. Furthermore, a family history of breast or ovarian cancer also affects ovarian cancer risks in BRCA1/2 mutation carries and this association is not completely explained by the effect of mutation position on the gene. Regarding the consequences of preventive surgery, RRSO is associated with a more atherogenic cholesterol profile. When compared to natural menopause, surgical menopause has no evident impact on bone mineral density and fracture prevalence. Application of these results can contribute to improving identification, counselling, and long-term management for BRCA1/2 mutation carriers

ORTEC Predicts the Payback Period for its Workforce Scheduling Software

ORTEC is a Netherlands-based software company selling decision support systems based on operations research models. One of her products is HARMONY, a workforce scheduling package. We developed a model to predict its return on investment for a specific customer. The model uses a database of reference implementations to find organizations that are similar to the prospective customer’s organization. The costs and benefits have been broken down into several factors and we use this detailed information from the reference implementations to create a prediction of the return on investment for the workforce scheduling package. Using the information from the reference set allows us to move from industry-averages for potential savings to a prediction of potential savings based on the actual experiences from similar organizations. This also makes the model transparent: the outcomes can be traced to the elements that were selected from the reference set and a detailed description of the model is available. The model has been implemented successfully at ORTEC and has been of decisive value for several prospective customers. From the data analysis it appears that organizations can save a lot both on the time needed for planning and on the amount of personnel needed. In most cases, the payback time of the OR software was less than one year

Floating stocks in FMCG supply chains

In this paper we present a new distribution concept called ‘floating stocks’, which uses intermodal transport to deploy inventories in a supply chain in advance of retailer demand. Supplying part of the demand directly by road compensates the longer transit time of this transport. First an analytical comparison is made which shows that this concept has advantages in inventories over pure road and intermodal transport. Next a simulation study of a real case is made which quantifies the cost-differences in detail

Moda y under: el bar Bolivia en 1989

El texto analiza las innovadoras producciones ubicadas entre el arte, la moda y el diseño de un grupo de jóvenes artistas y diseñadores que a fines de los años 80 comenzaban su camino profesional en Buenos Aires, entre quienes se hallaban Sergio De Loof, Gabriela Bunader, Andres Baño, Gabriel Grippo, Cristian Delgado, Marula Di Como, Pablo Simón, Kelo Romeroy Mónica Van Asperen. En 1989 el bar Bolivia, en el barrio de San Telmo, se convirtió en hogar y espacio de producción de este grupo y otros creadores que se vieron atraídos por ciertas particularidades propias de este reducto contra cultural. Aunque el bar Bolivia compartió muchas de las características de los espacios del under porteño, propongo diferenciarlo a partir de la siguiente hipótesis: si bien en los espacios del under la precariedad, el reciclaje y las prácticas vestimentarias desobedientes dieron forma a muchas de las acciones de sus protagonistas, fue en Bolivia donde decantaron y adquirieron una total centralidad, convertidas en un nuevo modo de activismo estético que transgredió todas las convenciones de la época desde el cruce entre lo artístico y lo vestimentario.The text analyses the innovative productions located between the art, fashion and design of a group of young artists and designers who in the late 80s began their professional career in Buenos Aires, including Sergio De Loof, Gabriela Bunader , Andres Baño, Gabriel Grippo, Cristian Delgado, Marula Di Como, Pablo Simón, Kelo Romero and Monica Van Asperen. In 1989 the Boliviabar, in the neighborhood of San Telmo, became home and production space for this group and other creators who were attracted by certain peculiarities of this countercultural redoubt. While Bolivia shared many of the characteristics of the spaces of the under of Buenos Aires, I propose to differentiate it from the following hypothesis: although in the under spaces precariousness, recycling and disobedient clothing practices shaped many of the actions of their protagonists, it was in Bolivia where they decanted and acquired a total centrality, turned into a new mode of aesthetic activism that transgressed all the conventions of the time from the cross between art and clothing.Fil: Lucena, Daniela. De Reformatie te Gorcum, 1550-1610

Vanaf de 19e eeuw is de reformatiegeschiedenis van Gorinchem overschaduwd door het verhaal over de “Martelaren van Gorcum”. Het doel van dit onderzoek is het achterhalen en analyseren van deze nauwelijks onderzochte reformatiegeschiedenis. Het eerste hoofdstuk analyseert de vakliteratuur over de geschiedenis van Gorinchem en geeft dit onderzoek een plaats in het historiografisch genre Stadsreformaties. Het tweede hoofdstuk schetst de ontwikkeling van kerk en stad tot aan het midden van de 16e eeuw. Die ontwikkeling leidt voor Gorinchem tot de merkwaardige dubbelfunctie van Philips II als Graaf van Holland en Heer van Arkel. Het derde hoofdstuk analyseert de opkomst van de protestantse stromingen in de stad en het begin van de contrareformatie tot aan de aansluiting bij de Opstand. Het vierde hoofdstuk analyseert de vestiging en groei van de gereformeerde kerk in de stad vanaf de vrijwel geweldloze aansluiting bij de Opstand tot de definitieve breuk met Philips II. Het vijfde hoofdstuk analyseert de verdere ontwikkeling en consolidatie van de gereformeerde kerk in de stad en haar rol binnen de complexe Classis Gorcum. De in die periode vernieuwde en sterk uitgebreide vesting Gorinchem blijft verschoond van oorlogshandelingen. De Gorcumse predikanten na 1580 blijven lang aan de gemeente verbonden en zij varen een gematigde contraremonstrantse koers. Het zesde hoofdstuk besteedt aandacht aan de andere geloofsgemeenschappen in de stad, in het bijzonder de grote rooms-katholieke gemeenschap. Die is binnen de stad nooit vervolgd of uitgesloten uit de magistraat. Het zevende hoofdstuk rondt het onderzoek af met een samenvatting en conclusies
