Logarithmic Corrections in the 2D XY Model
Using two sets of high-precision Monte Carlo data for the two-dimensional XY
model in the Villain formulation on square lattices, the scaling
behavior of the susceptibility and correlation length at the
Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition is analyzed with emphasis on
multiplicative logarithmic corrections in the finite-size
scaling region and in the high-temperature phase near
criticality, respectively. By analyzing the susceptibility at criticality on
lattices of size up to we obtain , in agreement with
recent work of Kenna and Irving on the the finite-size scaling of Lee-Yang
zeros in the cosine formulation of the XY model. By studying susceptibilities
and correlation lengths up to in the high-temperature phase,
however, we arrive at quite a different estimate of , which is
in good agreement with recent analyses of thermodynamic Monte Carlo data and
high-temperature series expansions of the cosine formulation.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX + 8 postscript figures. See also

The object of the development of the system is a residential building with engineering services in the neighborhood "North" in Zarechny settlement Tomsk region Tomsk region.
The aim is to develop a building heat consumption monitoring and control system that will keep accurate records of heat energy consumption, adjusted consumption, depending on the current weather conditions, to ensure energy saving.
As a result, we developed a system, which contains the components to allow for registration and control of heat consumption of the building. Moreover, all data on the system performance, volume and consumption parameters receives coolant controller having the ability to track all system parameters remotely
The role of sulfoglucuronosyl glycosphingolipids in the pathogenesis of monoclonal IgM paraproteinemia and peripheral neuropathy
In IgM paraproteinemia and peripheral neuropathy, IgM M-protein secretion by B cells leads to a T helper cell response, suggesting that it is antibody-mediated autoimmune disease involving carbohydrate epitopes in myelin sheaths. An immune response against sulfoglucuronosyl glycosphingolipids (SGGLs) is presumed to participate in demyelination or axonal degeneration in the peripheral nervous system (PNS). SGGLs contain a 3-sulfoglucuronic acid residue that interacts with anti-myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and the monoclonal antibody anti-HNK-1. Immunization of animals with sulfoglucuronosyl paragloboside (SGPG) induced anti-SGPG antibodies and sensory neuropathy, which closely resembles the human disease. These animal models might help to understand the disease mechanism and lead to more specific therapeutic strategies. In an in vitro study, destruction or malfunction of the blood-nerve barrier (BNB) was found, resulting in the leakage of circulating antibodies into the PNS parenchyma, which may be considered as the initial key step for development of disease
Processing of nerve biopsies: a practical guide for neuropathologists.
Item does not contain fulltextNerve biopsy is a valuable tool in the diagnostic work-up of peripheral neuropathies. Currently, major indications include interstitial pathologies such as suspected vasculitis and amyloidosis, atypical cases of inflammatory neuropathy and the differential diagnosis of hereditary neuropathies that cannot be specified otherwise. However, surgical removal of a piece of nerve causes a sensory deficit and - in some cases - chronic pain. Therefore, a nerve biopsy is usually performed only when other clinical, laboratory and electrophysiological methods have failed to clarify the cause of disease. The neuropathological work-up should include at least paraffin and resin semithin histology using a panel of conventional and immunohistochemical stains. Cryostat section staining, teased fiber preparations, electron microscopy and molecular genetic analyses are potentially useful additional methods in a subset of cases. Being performed, processed and read by experienced physicians and technicians nerve biopsies can provide important information relevant for clinical management

Polyneuropathy with demyelinating features in mixed cryoglobulinemia with hepatitis C virus infection
International audiencePeripheral neuropathy can arise from various mechanisms during hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, mainly involving associated mixed cryoglobulinemia. The frequency of demyelinating polyneuropathy is probably underestimated in these patients. We report two cases of demyelinating polyneuropathy in HCV-infected patients. The first case concerned a 76-year-old woman followed for hepatitis C associated with a mixed cryoglobulinemia (type II), who developed a chronic progressive distal motor weakness and sensory disturbances concomitant with a raise in serum aspartate aminotransferase (GOT/AST) and alanine aminotransferase (GPT/ALT) levels. Other laboratory studies were normal except for a decrease in the hemolytic fraction of complement to 75 IU (n = 400-520). The second case was a 68-year-old woman followed for hepatitis C associated with a mixed cryoglobulinemia (type II), who had sensory disturbances in the lower limbs. Laboratory studies were otherwise unremarkable. Cerebrospinal fluid studies showed a normal protein content without pleocytosis in both patients. In both cases nerve conduction studies were suggestive of a mixed axonal and demyelinating sensorimotor neuropathy. Sural nerve biopsy showed segmental demyelination and severe loss of large myelinated fibers as well as some onion bulb formation in both cases. The two patients subsequently improved, the first with an antiviral treatment and the second with oral steroids
